Does anyone in Washington DC have a nook or a spare bookshelf that four travelers from NYC could spend the night in? Brian, Megan, Mick, and I are travelling down Friday for the show, and need a place to stay for the night, before we dash back up to NYC and the shows there. Actually, just a place for Brian and I would be fine--Megan and Mick can stay in the car for the night and "guard" it. (As long as they don't steam up the windows. Oo-er). Sinister: monday night NYC apres gig party

Although it not entirely about B&S i just thought i'd rave about the new Arab Strap single which i bought yesterday its a real return to form. Its more like the 1st album than Philophobia which i've got to admit wasn't really taken with. This is more lyrically dense and less kind of trainspotting pastiche. Sinister: DC shwinding a lee ding

I haven't seen many posts on the DC show, so I believe I'll share my convoluted account with y'all. My friend, Bo, and I got to the club around 9:30, when the doors were supposed to open. There was a looo....oong line of people waiting to get in. Hipsters and sweeties as far as the eye could see. Bo asked around for a ticket, 'cause he didn't have one. It was around 10pm then, and we still hadn't been let in. Fast Forward to 11:30 and finally getting in the doors, skipping over Bo eating a McDonalds Hamburger and getting ill...veganism is the answer people! So, we hear the last 2/3 songs by the opening band..I have no idea who they were. Then they set up the stuff for Belle & Sebby. I then confessed to Bo that I had brought a camera. Me, obsessive? Never. At midnight or so, the band ambles on. I wish I could remeber the exact order of songs..somebody help me out here: Simple Things: got lots of cheers...Throughout the show, one girl insisted on shouting for this one even though they had played it first! Daft! <things get fuzzy, I know they played these ones..but I'm not sure of the order> Like Dylan in the Movies Ease Your Feet Off in the Sea Century of Elvis: It's true, people did crane their necks to see who was talking. MayFly Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying Stars of Track and Field: during this one I started to laugh at the "taking pictures of your obsessions" line, because thats what I'd been doing Seeing Other People: Stuart hid behind the piano for this one Is It Wicked Not to Care? Sleep the Clock Around Dirty Dream #2: I think this was last (Quite a few from IYFS) plus one I hadn't heard which Stevie sang, and one Stuart said they hadn't released. The crowd was very enthusiatic, but reserved. No one talked or sang along loudly during the show...people were groovin' though. I had never really seen any photographs of the band, or anything, before. Stuart M. has the face of an angel to go with that warm heavenly voice. Isobel was wearing a very cute pair of Tiger Ears. She looks like she's feeling better. The sound was warm and mellow and encompassed me. I think I could have melted away...le sigh. Mellowness was not the secret word after the show, however, as Bo and I proceeded to go around in circles trying to find our way out of DC. I think we passed the same spot 4 or 5 times..we didn't get back until 3am. Did anyone tape the show? I know I saw a woman with a video camera...is that you? No, sorry..my mistake. It's a bug. There's twice as many of you juicy succulent heart-achingly beautiful listees as there was a bit ago when I was having palpitations. But you're all worth it. So I'm exploring some options to relocate the mailing list to somewhere without quite the same pants-down embarrassment possibilities for me and looking at a few kind offers from people. If I do move it, don't worry, you'll hardly know, and I'll make sure it stays completely independent, because that's the point. You won't even have to move your coffee table. With so many mails I have too much to natter about here for my fingers to keep up with - but I've got to say thanks to Reid for the fabulous email about the Athens gig and his subsequent street-based shenanigans. Can we have more of these gig reports? Me and Splat would like that. I'd also like to add that I'm now dying to hear the band's paean to the 70s parka, Lord Anthony, but I couldn't possibly condone anyone taping it live, especially if they sent me a copy. Someone nice from Ireland asked about France Gall and a few people like Xavier replied - just to back that up, get the 4CD set if you can, it's fabulous (CDs 2 and 4 make me go gooey), and if not I'd get the LP "1968" - didn't Peter Miller mention this as one of the things he didn't buy? Tsk. Someone else tsked too, about an offer to pay over the odds for a tape on the list. I'm sorry to be a sulky thing but he/she was right, please keep this list squeaky clean for my sake and don't mention cash unless it's to cover stamps, tapes or sexual favours. Carrick - yes I believe it IS "our Oon" on Blueboy's LP - isn't that nice? She did their hair for the video. Dukey mentioned Blueboy in his book which I also now have in my grubby hands. It's a poptastic cornucopia of pop packed from cover to cover with popness and popticity. His knowledge of The Partridge Family's early years knows no bounds. Stuart G - tall and splendid you may be, but I think you're wrong about the Century of Elvis debate. It all took place on this list not the embryonic Coolist I think - look for "broccoli" in the search engine and you'll find it, and maybe spell it wrong because I never can get the hang of it. Vegetables? Pah. Sorry to everyone in the US for that display of the best of british from the computer hijacker - you know we love you really. Please don't go and take it out on the alleged offender though as suggested - we'll only risk another mail to the list. Select (December) in their interesting four-page B&S spread actually do the kind favour of picking it apart for you and naming names for us in the UK - none of them look much like them but if it's helpful to anyone... Stuart David's at the back making bored poo-poo noises, then there's Stevie and Chris copying his maths homework, then Isobel and Sarah, then Mick thinking about what he's having for his tea, and then Stuart reading Ezekiel and the top of Richard's head. Finally you're all deeply loved and those shoes really suit you. Please keep on being good and cuddly while I'm poorly, remember to keep the list special and help it by thinking what you post before you send it, and try sending fewer big mails rather than loads of little ones (it matters), and generally have a nice time, ok? We're going to have a competition next week for anecdotes of the form "I sang songs to Andrew Lloyd-Webber in ... and he ..." and because FunkySeb's made me giggle in bed this morning, he will win. Sinister: Brighton meetup

Hi all, The initial details of a meetup in Brighton are now up on the Jeepster meetup page (thanks David), and from the responses already it seems that people like the idea of December the 29th. (It seems that on this date that Nicole and Tara, will be over from America so it'll be nice to see them then) Have the Manchester/Glasgow plans got dates yet? it is just I don't want to double book those listees who will be wanting to go to those aswell. It was suggested that we meet up early in the day, so that those who have to travel can leave reasonably early having met people, because there are concerns about getting there and back, although it is on a fast line to London. I have forgotten the names of those of you on the list who said you were interested, but if you could either mail me, or the meetup page with any further suggestions and then I can start making more definate plans. Thanks for listening. Time to take off the "organisers head", and now on with the "tapers head" in a truely Worzel Gummage-esque way. For those of you who it concerns the next lot of tapes went off today, meaning you should get them at the start of next week. hey guys, i havent posted in over a month, but i just wanted to tell all the NY people going to the show on NOV 1 to say hi to me if they want, i love meeting strangers. <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/topbanana1/index.html">Shirley Braha's Homepage</A>.....my pic is at my homepage, ill be wearing a long black coat, with a little blue belle & sebastian pin on the corner of the collar, the same picture that is on the cover of arab strap. and um, if my coat is off.....im dressing up indie!!!!!!! sorta. im wearing blue corduroys and a maroon shirt with lines on the sleeves. high heeled boots. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant believe it!!!!!!!!! ive been counting down for two months. less than 30 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! btw, incase anyone remembers, or cares, im the girl that was gonna have to go to the concert with her mommy cause its the only way she was allowed.\ but guess what boys & girls, heres a cute story........ my old friend aaron is on this list, we had not spoken in a long time before we fouind out we were both on the lsit. so we both found out we were on the list, and then we both had already bought tickets for the show, same night, nov 1. so i begged my mom, she said yes because she knew him from a few years ago. so now im going with him, and his friend maurice who i met and is so sweet. with my extra ticket for my mommy......my love, stephen, from london, whos also on the list, just so happened he decided to coem to NY this week. so we're meeting and i cant wait anymore.
