Sinister: Radio Session in France

I just repeat with more details : Belle & Sebastian will do a radio session in the Bernard Lenoir's Show on the french radio called France Inter on october 5th, the day before the Paris gig. Do you know Paris ? It's a lovely little city in France. Do you know France ? It's a lovely lit... well okay. Belle & Sebastian will just play. No interview, just music during 50 minutes. The show is broadcasted live on AM band (162 kHz), so you can listen to it in most countries in Europe (especially in Britain, and for sure in London). Bernard Lenoir will not kill me if I compare his show to the famous John Peel's radio show on BBC One. Yesterday PJ Harvey did one of these famous "black sessions" (black, because "Lenoir" means black in french). For you to know, the next black sessions will be : 24.sep.98 Hefner 05.oct.98 Belle And Sebastian 06.oct.98 Baby Bird 27.oct.98 Placebo 17.nov.98 Boo Radleys But you will also be able to listen to this session on the web : http://www.eutelsat.org/radio/1012.html The radio session will start at 9.30 Paris time (8.30 in UK). I will OF COURSE tape it, but it will be difficult for me to send many copies... Sinister: The boy with the stereo lab

OK, take the song "The Boy With the Arab Strap", remove the "swing" beat, add straight-ahead 4/4 drums (w/ plenty of ride cymbal), droning organ, the occasional bubbly Moog, a couple of well-placed harmonies, and me thinks you've got a pretty great idea for a perfect Stereolab cover. Sinister: The boy with Naievity suceeds! (with your help)

Hi there popkids. Die hard listees among you will remember the saga of the boy sebastian, and his actress friend, who we shall call, er, belle. (though she's really called C********e) We first met the two of them in an Ink Polaroid, sebastian alone in the snow, belle walking off into the whiteout, oblivious to the broken heart that she had left behind. Well now we join them again. sebastian is staring mornfully into his pint of vile bitter. He's just met richard, belle's new boyfriend. sebastian has wide trousers, an honest smile, and a battered russian novel, richard has a six pack, a house in hampstead, and a part in casualty. 1-0 to the new tall elegant rich kids. But on the bus home, sebastian smiles through his tears. For he has a secret weapon. belle loves the same music as sebastian. they agree on most things, from flowers to the colour of buses. (green is best) But they particularly agree about music. That pretty scottish band reminds her why she likes him so much, and reminds him why he keeps on making a fool of himself for her. So sebastian makes a tape. Having a six pack's great, but only music can reach right into your soul, and make you feel happy, even as you cry. richard doesn't listen to music, you see. The tape looks great, he's blown up a little picture, until it fills the whole page. a boy, his face torn between agony and ecstacy, eyes half closed, lips half open, like a martyr, ready for a kiss.. But he has to write something, add something more, just a line, a lyric she'll hear, and keep forever in her heart- something that'll mean more to her than muscles and B list celebrity. Something to break open her heart, just like she did to him. What should sebastian write? Sinister: rare belle and sebastian track, or not?

hey, i've got a question hopefully somebody on this list can help me answer. i did a little tape trading a while ago, and this guy (who has since disappeared) sent me a tape with filled with belle and sebastian stuff . . . i can identify the origins of most of the songs, except two: one is an alternate version of "dog on wheels" which ends with a weird backwards sample . . . does anybody know where this version is from? the other is an incredible lawrence-welkish song, sung by a female (but it doesn't sound like isobel) and containing the lines "on white horses/pretty white horses/let me ride away." has anybody ever heard this song before? is it rare belle and sebastian, or is it somebody else? and if so, who, because it kicks . . . joe +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: promises of pain, promises of torture

It's good I managed to get a setlist yesterday evening, if I had to rely on my beer-socked memory I couldn't have given you the details of the Amsterdam concert. It was busier than I had expected, not sold out though. There was no opening act announced, but when we arrived at the Paradiso (around nine pm) the Lucksmiths were already playing. Quite nice, a bit Jonathan Richman-ish by way of Sarah (the label) and I'll always have a fondness for Aussie bands with songs about librarians ("She has the brains of Sharon Stone, and the heart of Danielle Steel). Anyway, around ten B&S ambled onto the stage - Stuart wearing an orange Adidas T-shirt, probably in tribute to our glorious national football team, and corduroy flares (???). Isobel looked quite fetching in her Japanese schoolgirl uniform, but I guess you don't want to be bored with irrelevant details (although Mick's chequered trousers deserve a mention too), so on to the setlist: Dog On Wheels Dirty Dream #2 Loneliness Of The Middle Distance Runner Poupee De Son, Poupee De Cire The State I Am In Lazy Line Painter Jane (2nd vocal done by Stevie) Seymour Stein Brilliant Career She's Losing It Slow Graffiti (live premiere?) Chick Factor Belle And Sebastian Photo Jenny Sleep The Clock Around As usual, no encore. According to the setlist, Rollercoaster Ride should have been the last song, but was replaced with Sleep... Seymour Stein was introduced by Stevie and Stuart showing the drummer how the song went, they did a few lines in a country style with special lyrics, ie. "promises of pain, promises of torture" and a line about a vicar's daughter. I hope more details will emerge from my foggy memory, all I can remember is that it was very special. If I had the time and money, I would go to see them in Brussels next week. Koen

Someone asked who the openers were going to be for the toronto date. i do believe that it is Spooky Ruben. I'm not completly sure. You can check by phoning the Edge club and concert listings. The number is (416) 872-3343. or is it 870? any how, it lists it there. And to those discussing cartoons. My very first crush was on Mighty Mouse. Anyone remember him? Sinister: New York Folks

Hey kids... I don't write to the list much, but most of the #sinister chat people know me (a little too well perhaps). So anyway, I'm coming to New York for the B+S Tour Dates at the Supper Club, and was wondering if there are any events or picnics or Sinister parties being held the weekend before the show or whatnot. I'd like to meet some of the strange and beautiful people I'm always reading about... so, yeah, I hope something's going on.
