I think Megan is trying to bait me with this statement; I tried to resist replying, for, oh, five whole minutes, but I am weak. Megan wrote: <<a couple poofs and i would have been in heaven.>> Oh Megan, there are just too many ways to reply. You have sent me on smart comment overload. I realize this was your entire plan from the beginning. Anyone else recall bombs that go POP!? I was thinking of setting some to battle the rise of cynicism, but what does one put in that sort of bomb? Sarah singles would just become pieces of candy-coated shrapnel, and Pastel badges have pins. Lemon curd? I was planning on sitting in the cafe with my tea and chocolate watching these bearers of inspiration and soul being exploded. I suppose there are other means to this goal. As for DH Lawrence, he is one of my favorite comic novelists. His despair and hopelessness is hilarious, especially after writing the same "industrial world bad, let's achieve new eden" themes over and over. I like in _Women In Love_ the discussion about plant reproductive systems and ways of learning that goes on before the class of little ones. And who can forget the men wrestling naked in front of the fire... That said, his short stories are much better because he is limited by their size. James Joyce is hilarious too. I used to get odd looks in class when I mentioned how humorous these books are. So spurned by literature I had to turn to art history as a major. Sinister: speaking of the delgados...

(i apologize if this has already been discussed in another post, i am slightly new.) being a huge wedding present fan, i recently got david gedge's new album with his girlfriend as cinerama. there i found that emma pollock from the delgados guest stars on one of the songs, a very beautiful song actually. i highly recommend this album..it is absolutely wonderful. i was suprised, it is a lot softer than the music of the wedding present, but with gedgie's good pop lyrics. they toured here in the states with belle and sebastian for several shows, but unfortunately the closest show to my home was about 10 hours away. i tried to talk my supervisor at work to let me have a couple days off so i could drive up and see them both play together, but he wouldnt let me. the bastard. ***jenny*** +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". Sinister: is there a place for wistfulness?

greetings, alix sounds like new years was a right laugh, i had much the same experience a few days before it, losing oneself for periods of time is very scary. i don't reccomend it. what if you never find yourself again? ohhhh, i'm glad someone brought up "the delegados". I only discovered them in the last few months, i don't have the *new* album, i have the penultimate one, but i wouldn't class it as folky at all, perhaps they changed dramatically in the inter-album-limbo. but i saw the belle and sebastian similarities immediatly, like stuart and co. with a bit of rocket fuel and more cultural references. i have heard one track off the new album though, one with the lines "living ideals, not living for real" (i'm terrible with names, bear with me) i loved it, as weejay says, it's dark tinkly folk music with boy/girl vocals. did someone mention melys? i know they're welsh (as i am obsessed slightly with said country) and that they're very gooooood, any major fans here? another word i'd add onto weejays list of misunderstood words is: love my friend and i just discovered the treehouse site, wow. i think i'll buy me one of those books. that whole project seems to be totally on my wavelength, the incinuation (?!) of cuddly toy porn, and the spy photo's were classic, i love it! has anyone gotten 1999 diaries yet? does it have January 1st 2000 on them? is that in any way scary? all the zero's, like a not-quite-new beginning. damnit, i didn't mean to jump on the premillenium band wagon, but they're you go, i'm one big stereotype, i'll be the first to admit it. i'm going to get a mate to tape the paris gig from bbc radio, i only seem to be able to get that station in the morning and early afternoon, but my friend 3 miles down the road in dun laoighre can get it no hassle, am i therefore diseased or something? anyway, i'm looking forward to it, i have no live recordings of them, and i've never seen them live. one question before i go, has anyone heard of "teen anthems"? i'm sorry this wasn't an enlightening post, but i'm not in a squeezy mood you know. your humbly finn +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". I have to make a piece of work about the similarities between the rock concerts and the religious ceremonies. IŽm trying to center it in four or five bands which can be representative of different rock images, and IŽm asking if there is any veteran sinisterite who has ever attended a gig of Joy Division. If you did, please tell me how it was, how was their atmosphere. You can also send things about B&S if you like, but from them I have enough information obviously.I chose both of them (apart from Marilyn Manson and two more which have still to be decided) because theyŽre an example of indie bands with a staunch crowd behind them. well, i just finished "the bell jar" for the first of many times, blew out the candles, etc. i hear my mum's listening to TIJAMRS upstairs...anyway, i'm staying home this saturday night (i finally get an excuse--being trapped in because of the ice and snow) with my little brother who is continuously playing at the video games (i wish that my life was full of that much excitement and amusement), my dog who will not cease arf-ing. . .this boredom plagues me!!! does anyone else ever get productive fanatasies when the are really bored? i dreamt today that i would clean my room, make some cookies and cake, maybe sew a dress, start a screenplay...hey, i made my bed, bathed and finished my book, i think that that is enough. my, my toes are cold. anyway, here is the point to all of my blather, i received in the mail today some silly membership info from a columbia house cd club. i was searching through the little stamp thingies as i was waiting for my slow server to kick in, giggling at the footloose soundtrack (i just saw that movie for the first time yesterday at my grandmum's), looking past the usual jewel, sheryl crows, mariah careys's, etc. when -oh my!- i see TBWTAS and -my lord!- IYFS. so my simple questions are: when did this happen? what does this mean? they both had this little red arrow beside them which means: highly recommended. hmmmmm... nevertheless, i'm going to take those little stamps and place them someplace special. but -my!- i found this as a bit of a shock. is this reaction as expected or am i just being ignorant and talking from my bum? well, it's time for me to leave you all alone now. kiss! and good evening KIMberly aka: kfr9(a)cdc.gov ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Hello Belle and Sebastianarians! Remember that bit in Interview with a Vampire, where Pitt's character finds the huge collection of vampires after thinking he was one of very few? This is a bit like that for me, but I doubt very much I'll have to set you on fire. Absolutely not. My name is Greig Marshall etc. I am but a hatchling in the great nest of Sinister, wide-eyed and naive, but determined to learn the ways of Sebastianism. Chirp chirp. Chirp. Some TENUOUSLY B&S related content: Anyone read Nalda Said? A few friends and I (note the proper grammar - I want to impress you all as I'm just out of the nursery) found out about Looper playing in Virgin's Glasgow megastore to advertise the book. We went purely for the music, but I was so enchanted by one of Nalda's stories which was read aloud to us that I bought the book. I'm sad to say that I'm between crushes at the moment. hey there kids, i am a new one to the list. i waited about a week before posting, cause i remember reading several days ago that someone suggested that. but you kids didnt scare me away. i must say, you all have amused me by your silly stories and wonderful dreams of belle and sebastian. i have enjoyed reading these emails better than those i have gotten from any other mailing list i have been on. to the gal that mentioned the ocean blue...it is so nice to hear of someone else who likes them. cerulean is a very good album, i have treasured it for many years. i thought for the longest time that those boys were brits...come to find out that they are from west virginia or something. oh well, they are still wonderful. i too saw sliding doors recently, i found myself saying 'wanker,' and 'bollucks,' and 'daft' for days. why cant we use such splendid words like those here in the states more often? i called someone at work a wanker and i got laughed at. i hope everyone had a good safe new year. i, like some of you i am sure, got completely wasted off way too much champagne. but luckily there was no hangover waiting for me in the morning. ***jenny*** +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net". This tidbit was posted by David Kitchen: anyhow, before i go back to the beach, just to let UK fans know that on monday night (two days time)radio 1 will be airing what is says is a belle and sebastian showcase gig from paris, we believe that this is simply the french 'black' session being aired in the uk for the first and follows last weeks playbacks of the session in spain and italy. so get your tapes ready :) Does anybody know if this session could be heard via the web. I know many radio stations air live on the internet through broadcast.com but I was hoping to find if BBC Radio 1 does the same. Sure would be nice to tune in from across the Atlantic. Thanks, Rich
