dearest listerines -- i have awakened from a drunken fog only to find myself... back at the office. grrr. at least it's tuesday morning and not monday... i spent my 4th-of-july weekend in lovely boston, which i hadn't visited since our 7th grade class trip. mostly i lolled around my best friend's UNairconditioned apartment in brighton, but we also managed to get ourselves to a britpop party at some place called The Upstairs Room, above a sports bar! my two friends, who live in boston and had access to their own closets, were tres mod, but alas! i was stuck in my darkdenim flares and my study@stow shirt... hey, i figured, b&s are british! and pop! right? right? anyway... the music started to deteriorate into motown or something, but the highlight was definitely dancing to morrissey. i thought of you lot! and now my stow shirt is disgustingly sweaty and smoky and dirty, and i may well have spilled some of my martini on it, too... but i am reluctant to let my mum throw it in with all the other laundry, after that horror story ... was it blake? who told of his mum ruining his shirt? shudder to think it, eh? my friends (in boston) and i decided, while wandering through the commons/park area, that american holidays, like 4th-of-july and thanksgiving, tend to highlight all the things about us that are embarrassing, as a country. what do we do on the 4th? cook immense amounts of food and be disgustinly slothful and hot all day. what about thanksgiving? cook immense amounts of food and be disgustingly slothful and watch an inferior sport on t.v. all day.... ewww. fireworks are pretty, though, especially from a city rooftop when you have had far too many pina coladas and clove cigarettes! oh, archel mentioned Cruel Intentions and the american pronunciation of "sebastian" as "sebasjun"... um, yes, over here we say it like that. i wasn't aware that the british way was to pronounce all the syllables -- se-bas-ti-an. i thought stuart was trying to rhyme it, or just being cute... nope, this side of the ocean it's "bellen sebasjun". unless someone is putting on airs, or maybe after listening to the songs so much the "sebas-ti-an" comes naturally... aaghhh! i've gone on too, too long! i need a cigarette! but i work on the 9th floor and "stepping out" for a break is more like an ordeal... oh, one more thing: is honey alright? i remember a mention of illness, and i'm a mite concerned... take care, all. xoxo, marie === "i wish i could live on air and music" - hot water music ********************************************************** "I was a proper snob in college, as only a future lifetime English major can be" - b. glass (j.d.s.) _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? well, it finally happened. someone commented on my study at stow shirt. today i was at the grocery store (the star market in cambridge mass near central square, for all you boston kids) and this man came up to me and said his daughter had this shirt and she loved wearing it and that they are going to glasgow this summer and she wants to get a picture of herself standing in front of stow college wearing the shirt. i thought that was cute, and demand that if it was any of you to come forward. oh, and some other guy said that he liked my shirt, with his eyes kinda bouncing back and forth between my shirt ad my face, but i think it may have just been that he liked my titties. Evenin' all, Much conversation of the somewhat predictable use of "Stars of Track and field" for a BBC athletics broadcast. i hope now B&S are not placed firmly on the tacky map with the tuneless arselikes of the Lightening Seeds and Burnhard Butwipe. i'm not happy. I suppose that was Roger Blacks idea - i particularly dislike Roger and his wordly knowledge of absolutely chuffing everything. Is it wicked not to care Tim, yes it porkingly well is young man - the plight of the English cricket team is nothing to be taken lightly. apologies primarily for my last mega-ramble, not that anybody would have got to the end of it without hitting delete, but sorry anyway. concise. try. (i would cut & paste everybody elses' comments but i'm afraid my limited computing resources do not allow this, but anyway.....) a newcomer to our hearth place Miss Lucy of Juicedom pointed out that Buddy's Song was infact a sequel to the TV read along series 'Buddy'. Apart from obviously re-pointing out that dear Chesney Hawkes name is an anagram of Cheesey Wank, or checking it for the the first time ever She Cheesey Wank / She Wank Cheesey (?) etc's. I think it worthy to note that Roger (and mentioning Daltrey seems nearly second to B&S in the content stakes) was always extremely proud that said programme actually had the effect of reducing truancy. the kids actually perhaps were alright on the days it was on, as they tended to come in on the mornings it was on rather than skive off getting into grange hill stylee scrapes etc. as per usual. maybe his career was on the skids by this point, but at least he could be prod of this. Quite touching i thounght. AMERCIAN CANDY SHOCKER. scary/starry sarah said about what choccy bar stevie j would be. My sister, also known to have a sofy spot for young stevie, raced off along the balcony of shepherds bush empire to accost mr jackson - i believe as well as telling him how lovely he was, she offered confectionary. which was accepted......now i'd have to check this before i could get it certified, but i'm fairly convinved it was peanut M'n'Ms. BBC SPORTS BACKGROUND MUSIC. If we have a projector at some future at some future tigermilking/earconfectionrecordings/whatever events i could entertain the trops with a reaonable chunk of said background music footage. After squealing childishly oi realised i had a tape in the vid cued up for more of the peel evening, so missed the initial chorus but got the rest of it on tape, so mr Popkins, your wishes may yet come true. Actually speaking of vids, someone taped the B&s vids of mtv a while back for me, and i'm sure somebody has the documentary which i am either in (according to (jakeyjeepster saving a penalty)) or not according to ailsa. (which made me sda after being very excited). Sinister: Death to Crusties!!!

Oh my. What a weekend. It was the birthday of an old friend of mine on friday and he was throwing a party so I dutifully went. Turns out half the guests there were filthy crusties swigging raw Tesco vodka and Carlsberg special, the other half were all puritanical vegan straight-edge skinhead types. It was a nightmare. Me and Barbara (my gf) walk in dressed like 70s pimps with gin, tonic, bag of ice and a lime. Nobody says a word to us, they just stare like we're a couple of fucking lepers. Then they set up a PA in the living room and this woeful punk band starts playing death-metal versions of Exploited songs. Me and barbara hid in the kitchen, quickly drank a bottle of gin between us in about 10 minutes then sneaked out the back alley, past two copulating skinheads. It was awful, I tell you. What has become of my friend Henry? I am partly to blame. It was me that lent him a copy of a Minor Threat compilation when we were 17, and within the year he'd turned into a slightly skinnier version of Henry Rollins. He's just no fun any more. The following morning I bought the NME, and Barbara, an emtionally fragile creature dressed entirely in black silk and velvet, went into hysterics at the news of the forthcoming Suede tour. The problem is, they're not playing belfast, so I have to fork out my hard-earned shekels on a weekend trip to Dublin to watch four poncey wankers prance about. (If she knew what I just typed I would die - my feigned appreciation for Suede is the foundation of our relationship. Me: "No, I like Brett's voice.....No, really, it's all right.") My day was brightened when a supposedly well-connected friend of mine told me that B&S are planning to play in Belfast in November. Can anybody please confirm or deny this rumour? It would be the highlight of my year if it was true. Only two days till the Arab Strap show in Belfast. Any other sinister folk going? Oh dear what a rambling mess. Well, I have been inhaling jumbo markers to pass the time away. My prose is usually far superior to this. please don't hit me. Well, good afternoon all! Stupid way to start an email, considering you're all around the world and reading emails at different time of day and saving emails to read later on etc. Oh well, there's no turning back now. Aren't bank holidays great? I went home to see Mum and Dad in Woking, which will mean nothing to any of you except James T, who lives down the road (Isn't Surrey great? So much to see and do!) Good record shop by Woking Station though - Musical Mystery Store - has two huge boxes of Northern Soul re-issue singles, so I highly recommend it - worth coming down from London just to visit the one shop - and I spent a fortune there on Saturday. And being at Mum and Dad's means getting a proper feed - Chicken Dinner! With Gravy! There doesn't seem to be any point in making gravy or custard when I'm cooking for one, which I invariably do, so this was a particular treat. And then on Monday, Woking Football Club gave Yeovil a good thrashing in the sunshine. The referee was called Wendy. Did you know that Buddy's Song was actually a sequel? The first film was called Buddy - we watched it at school in Eng Lit classes (we read the book too, obviously). Buddy also featured Dodger Raltrey, but alas no Chesney Hawkes - only a skinny kid with a shaven head and a grubby jumper. HOW TO PASS THE TIME IN DULL LECTURES Believe me, I know all about this one. Doodling consumes time very nicely, if you're near enough to the back of the room. If you're near the front, the evil lecturer can tell you're not writing. Practice different sorts of flowers (eg. daisies, tulips, bluebells). Do not cover the page in hearts, even if you are desperately in love, as you will look sad. Sinister: der's more to ireland den dis

hello people its been six months since my last post (which was also the first) so its about time i return to harass the list once more. the subject of this post, for those not in the uk, or those in the uk who do not share my love for steve coogan, is a line from the wonderful alan partridge. the reason for me using it, is that i shall soon be in dublin and will be lost without some kind soul suggesting places that are good that i could visit. so please mail me if you know of lovely places to go in dublin. we have a great new type of french stick at my bakery which is fantastic. now, it smells like cheese, which is good because cheese smells lovely. but, and this is the good bit, it tastes just like normal tasty bread. the usual downside with things that smell like cheese is that they taste like cheese (often because it *is* cheese). however as cheese is the most foul, disgusting and downright putrid substance ever, this french stick is sucessful in smelling nice and tasting even better. now i bet you're glad i shared all that with you. it might be too late, but ive finally persuaded someone to accompany me to ATP (or 'all this mornings farmers' as we tend to call it, continuing the alan partridge theme). the only snag is that we need two spaces in a chalet. if any kind people have any room left for 2 persons we'd be eternally grateful and supply alcohol and possible even give lifts down if you live further south than milton keynes or oxford. ive finally got hold of a copy of alternative nation and all the videos are rather splendid, especially DD#2 and LLPJ. thats all for now mr paul x ---------------------------------------------------- Paul McAllister paul(a)belleandsebastian.org ICQ#21292923 +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister(a)majordomo.net".
