My darling Sinister, Well, here we are, I am 21. It sounds a bit scary i think. I mean 20 is just so�classy, and then 21 is the beginning of a new decade. Waow. I don't want to grow older but I think I have no choice as I am not like Peter Pan, which is a shame really. Still, to forget I was getting older I got drunk this week-end and had a lot of chocolate cake and probably too much whisky. Not together, I have no recipe of whisky'n'choc cake. I even had my first party in my new flat which was cool, my guests behaved very well and I had no bad surprises the next morning. Well if we except some neighbours complaining, but as i am very diplomatic and I don't want my landlord to know I have been naughty and got drunk with my friends, I fed them choc cake "cos I am so very sorry you know" (said with a very sorry little smile) and it was all ok the day after. Eh eh eh. My new flatmates are almost ok. But they like "El Bus". I bet you don't know what "el bus" is, you lucky people. It's like Big Brother but in a bus.They stuck 10 people in a bus and travel them around Spain and there are cameras everywhere in the bus and we know what they eat, what they drink, who is doing the washing up and who is not and who has sex with his/her bed neighbour and who doesn't. Very interesting as you can imagine. But well it looks like they are getting addicted. And they were all upset yesterday because the public chose to quick off the only girl who was having sex (well not on her own but they didn't kick off the boy, you see). So what will happen next week if nobody has sex? "Poor Javier, he is all upset now". My God, and then they look at me weird when I jump around singing in the living room. Well I am off now, I have to get prepared to do a presentation in front of 50 Spanish students in a week time. Teachers probably think you like talking in front of people showing crap transparents. Of course, I am dying of impatience. Mark Hester spluttered: ""Christmas comes earlier each year" whingers are a perennial hazard. You know the type - people who insist that it is obscene that the deccies in the shops appear in early or mid-November and maintain that they can remember when it Didn't Used To Happen." Shops putting up Christmas stuff early (it's usually September rather than November round these parts) doesn't bother me at all, but people decorating their houses around now really spoils it, don't you think? Such as the people who live around the corner from me who always really go over the top and try to turn their house into a winter wonderland type thing, which can be nice and indeed heartwarming on cold, dark December evenings, but they usually wait until at least, well, December. But this year they've got all the lights and everything on already, so instead of looking festive it just looks garish. Almost as garish as Glasgow City Chambers, in fact. But not quite. Speaking of Glasgow (neat little segue there, did you notice?) there's an exhibition currently on at the Lighthouse there that might be of interest to listy people. Actually, the people who it's probably of most interest to are those from Glasgow, who probably know all about it already and I'm just showing how incredibly unhip and behind the times I am by mentioning this, while thinking that I'm being dead clever just cause I saw something about it in the papers at the weekend. But there might be people who don't know about it, or are maybe going to be visiting in the next few months or something. Anyway, it's called 'Electric City' and is about the underground (for want of a better word) music scene in Glasgow over the past 25 years and features such Sinister faves as the Pastels and Orange Juice and Postcard Records and suchlike. Belle & Sebastian were mentioned in the article I read, but I don't know if there's anything about them in the exhibition. It's probably worth a visit if you can get there and it's free to get into, which is good as well. It runs until 25 February (by which time I might have a job and be able to travel through!) and there's more about it at: http://www.thelighthouse.co.uk/electric-city See - sometimes I can post things which people might be interested in! Peter Miller and Carsmile asked about Sodastream in Hyndland on Friday. I was there, but far too dazzled by said Glasgow City Chambers Christmas lights and the sheer excitement of travelling on underground trains to form any coherent opinion, so I'll leave the reviews to people better qualified than myself! howlo sinister people thank you very much i had a lovely morning reading all the posts gathered up over the weekend :) i laughed out loud at the closing lines of jenowls first post 'The pen colour didn't go with my duffel coat :)' *sprays tea everywhere, or would have if she was drinking any* then i think the people in the computer lab thought i was possessed, so its just as well i didnt cry at her next one.... aaaawww jen!! what did you do to deserve that?? its a crying shame, so it is. :( on the subject of kid a being uninspiring and boring, i cant really think of a rational argument because its all a matter of taste, so im just going to growl at you all like the furry animal i am. ahem.. grgrrrrgrrrrrrrrrrrr*snort*grrrrrrrrrrrr*snort*grrrrrrrrrrrgrrrrrr*snort*grrrrrrrrgrrr..etc etc *the world of sinister cowers in utter fear* so yeah, im supposed to have a 1500 word essay handed in today, by 3pm. and having not started it, or read the story, or even the question, (ohmygodithinkileftthequestionathome...!!!.."£$£$^&&*&&*()_!!!) i thought i d rush straight into uni but then of course i couldnt resist that shining internet icon beckoning my cursor to come closer and DOH here i am, two hours later. *content* i put 'legal man' and 'string bean jean' on a compilation tape to attempt to intice a nu-punk-rocker friend into the arms of mr murdoch and co the other day. don't you just get really frustrated when trying to think of the best belle and seb song to put on a tape?? THEY'RE ALL SO DAMN GOOD!! im still not sure if i made a good choice. ah, its the simple things occupy my head!! my most favourite female musician of all time is megan childs. i hope that dosent mean i have to indure a stoning in george square. did they ever stone people in george square?? in fact have they ever stoned people full stop, or was i just taking 'the life of brian' as gospel?? boo-doom tsh. anyway though arent her violin solos just lovely?? especially the one near the end of 'she lives on a mountain' where euros goes 'so beautiful to see' and then in she comes with those heart reaching sliding notes(dearie me what an awfull description)...or the mid-8 type thingy on 'over and out'. i feel like doing a top 14 now, because thats my birthdate. but i cant really be bothered. oh well. congratualations to pamela on list crush success :) its strange because i already knew not one or two but four people that are on the top ten crushees of all time before i joined sinister. well i thought it was :s ive now got 4 hours to do THAT essay. how soul destroying. i want to leave uni but theres nothing out there i want to do , exept become a member of b and s of course which, i must admit, its just a TAD unrealistic!! *sigh* i suppose ill just sit here and wait for a sign. Sinister: Auction Facts and Figures or...

why steve should really get a life. Did a bit of research last night, and it would appear the auction has raised £2700, 81 of the 173 lots received bids ranging from £10 to (i think) £405. Struan made the most money, his two lots raising over £600 and Struan also won the most things including badges, a haircut, clothes patching, a personal thrift store shopper and video editing, for which he paid ten squid each, obviously a man with an eye for a bargain, as is our very own list mummy who i think scored three bargains herself. No other members of the band seemed to bid for anything, unless they used elaborate pseudonyms (of course "stuart murdoch" could be a pseudonym, but i think we can assume that it was the man himself), although our favourite merchandising person put in a couple of bids. It was worth noting that the twee poetry lots did very badly, whereas the going out and getting pissed lots did very well, although this theory kind of falls apart when you look at how well the knitting/crocheting lots did, and i can't wait to hear dj pain at the next tigermilking... Got the xmas album last night and on first listen it's rather sweet, although following the world of sadness above, i'd like to point out that it's stuart, then stevie, then isobel singing, i think. I'm sorry if I accidentally gave Carsmile the impression that the Foxgloves photo would no longer be on display in New York, I just naturally assumed that one of the lumberjacks would have taken it home to "shoot the rapids" over it. Still, at least the exhibition was easy to find, just follow the mighty river of lumberjacks, like a terrifying scene from "Invasion of the Foxglove Shaggers". Swoon! Who outbidded me for Honey's services? Now I'll never have a The 70s WHO Loghouse Project Mailing List. But at least I'll have 25 quid to spend on The 70s WHO fancy dress outfits. Swoon! Didn't anyone go to see Sodastream and Chris Leonard at the church hall? I'm sure I'm not alone in yearning for a detailed report - what kind of shoes were people wearing? Was the janitor there? Did the DJ play loads of ska records? Was there any stagediving? - at least it would offset the current avalanche of Radiohead posts. Why it seems like only yesterday that Mister Chris himself was telling us all about a hymn concert at the selfsame venue, where Isobel DJed dressed up as a cowgirl. Swoon! I ran downstairs and quick as i could and turned on the tv here...and my gosh...it was true!! B&S being played at Prime Time on basic TV, this is just as strange as that time i heard This Is A Modern Rock Song being played on the background of SNL! Hi everybody. I should be studying vocabulary but instead I'm learning more of the colorful sort and sending a message to you lovely people. Are all Scottish high school kids like the ones Jen talks about? I haven't met anyone nearly as mean or vicious, and none of the kids at my school throw rocks. They throw food at us at lunch but that's safer. Must be something in the water supply. We're just a lazy wimpy sort, apparently. I got the new Gentle Waves this weekend, I'd forgotten it was out but there it was in the B&S bin. I think it's about 100 times better than the first, don't you agree? Both of the clerks at the register were fans, and one of the guys said he didn't much like Looper's live show, but he would've liked it more if it were a bit more "blippy." Whatever that means. I should've asked if they're on Sinister. So if you're two 20-something guys who worked at Vintage Vinyl in St. Louis on Saturday night and think Looper should be more blippy, well, hi. My best friend dyed her hair blue but when she took a shower it all came out. So now she has gray hair. She was counting on looking like Marge Simpson but she ended up looking like.. well.. old. I'm still wondering why she wanted to look like Marge though. They showed the episode tonight where Homer is on the run from PBS so he becomes a missionary in the south Pacific, which is probably my favorite of all time. All my friends are having sex. It's really depressing. For them and for me I guess. But no, I don't need anything like that, I never have impure thoughts, I'm really fucking twee. Apparently. That's what my friends say except they don't know the word twee so they say dorky instead. It must be true if ugly pimply kids and people with gray dye jobs can get some and I can't. I'm much too bitter, especially during the holidays. Anyways. My big project right now is Christmas presents. I've decided that I will make every friend and most acquaintances and teachers a custom-fitted mixtape. And they must all contain B&S of course. Trouble is, I can't think of songs for these scenarios: a boy who loves opera, George Michael, and U2 a girl who's letting alternative radio get a hold on her but likes Elliott Smith, so that's a start. a French teacher (French songs) a girl I have a crush on who's very artsyfartsy and loves Nader and Rocky Horror stuff But anyway. I'll go back to lurking now. But if someone could tell me why Optimistic is everyone's favorite Kid A song, I'd like to know. Because I only like it better than Treefingers maybe, for some reason. I love the record though. Teeny Eye (as my friends call him) is probably one of the last people that can still reduce me to tears, in the best possible way of course.
