check it! --i'll have a knife and a bike chain, and a fox in the snow for my friend here-- i received a package in the mail from my friend in japan yesterday. in it was a coaster from the, yes, belle and sebastian club in seoul, korea! it's awesome b/c it's so two pieces of laminated coloured cardboard cut into a circle with 'belle & sebastian' written on both sides in gold and silver pen. rah! how very! my friend said the club is great and decorated with b&s posters and b&s is played in healthy amounts. --telling time just got def-- i also received a "scratch watch", which is a watch with a tiny plastic turntable on it and when you scratch the record it says one of four japanese phrases (or parts of phrases if you're that kind of scratch watch master). the phrases translate as: really?, why?, that's enough! and okay okay! it is about the radest thing ever. --sometimes people say 'coot', but that is not so cute really-- and, along with candy in sushi shapes and some long purple socks with toes in them, i received a facecloth with a bunny on it and the rather ominous words "her name is lily. she is three years old. she is a rabbit." now, i'm pretty particular about what is cute. and this is damn cute. a total rip-off of dick bruna's miffy the bunny, yes, but it makes me say aaaw and smile every time i look at it. and miffy the bunny is cuter than hello kitty, honestly. and hello kitty is cute. my melody is perhaps cuter than hello kitty though but not as cute as miffy. but what do i know; this weekend i hugged a giant pikachu pajama bag in the sheets and pillows department of the bay. i can only explain it as a bad reaction to goose down. so, japan proves itself cute *and* rad yet again! just like steven kado. --i've seen the future and it's wearing flares-- but wait, stop, no, yes! there's more b&s! the latest issue of vice magazine has belle-and-sebastian-a-scopes! b&s lyrics interpret the month ahead! and in vice of all places! but you can tell they love b&s; it's not tongue-in-cheek. well, maybe literally in their case, but not figuratively. --movies-- yes, "ratcatcher" is so great. after i saw "dancer in the dark" (which turned me inside out and made me unable to move for a bit. i loved it.), i took a cab to a filmfest party and the cab driver was scottish. so there i am, all emotionally put through the ringer and drained, and the cab driver asks (b/c we said we were going to a filmfest party) if we saw any scottish films during the filmfest. and i said yes, ratcatcher. and he said that that was a great film and what did i think of it. and i said it was amazing and poetic and stunning really (i was not articulate at all). and he wanted to know more, *why* i thought these things, *what* was poetic about it, etc. so i fumbled and talked about the scene where james goes to the new housing development and looks out through the kitchen window and the whole screen is filled with the kitchen window and a waving field of long faded gold grass. which was just so beautiful and sad and a visual contrast with much of the movie. and then the cab driver was nice to me and told me of other scottish films to see and had a good rant about the state of the american film industry. and he only charged me $5 for a $15 cab ride. --the sea and cake-- were really really great last night, like beautiful. it seems they are playing with broadcast on almost all of their *other* tour dates, which is awesome (though not awesome for me. awesome for you who see this show.) but blonde redhead are coming here with the need in december, so hey and wow and rah for that which is going to be supremely rockin'. um. yeah, that. but also, if you put john mcentire and stuart murdoch in the same room, even if they were at opposite ends of it, the room would start to glow with sexiness and anyone who saw this glow would immediately fall down due to their knees turning to jelly and their pulse going arhythmic. yrs b/c vowels aren't on sale this week, r o b y n and: jason said good things about early 90s girlbands like cub! yaaay! he also mentioned Nardwuar the Human Serviette in passing. which i found funny b/c i don't know if i've ever heard nardwuar mentioned in passing - either you're talking about nardwuar or you're not, it seems... ===== I was reading the dictionary. Meow says the kitten; I've been sick for about 5 days (don't let me breathe on you), scratchy throat & coughing coughing. The only thing that helped was eating half a tube of that raw cookie dough, with my fingers, on the couch, in blankets, watching daytime t.v. Something made it taste SO good. Can you imagine anything more comforting? Ian asked about Heavenly: a wonderful girl-fronted punkpop band, most recommended for their "P.U.N.K. Girl" e.p. (which is on K Records altho a large part of their catalog is on Sarah, i prefer their K stuff). Please buy it with allspeed. Their other albums lost some of the edge, I think, altho correct me if i'm wrong (of course you will). Now Playing: Le Pastie Gotta be their hardest song yet, non? And any song that mentions 2 of my three favorite authors (they really need a song about Bukowski) has to be loved and played on repeat from time to time. Where are all the good cordeuroy flares? Not at the thrift shops. Summun's buying them up to sell at the vintage shops for $20 a pair. I hate that. But my friends tell me that if i don't wear something besides my low-ass boot-cut jeans, they'll cut bagel-sized holes in the arse. Who CARES what pants I wear? I didn't think anyone looked below my waist anyway. "What a fuckin waist....." hello kids, wowie - two posts from me in the last few weeks, the shadows of lurkerdom were getting quite scary. and i need more help buying records. and i have an idea. but if you want to know what it is, you'll have to read everything else first. ha ha :) okey dokey, first of all, thanks to all the peeple who told me to buy 'you can't hide your love forever' by the orange juice. i would've bought it, but it's been deleted, tho' it'll be re-released next year, apparently. so i'll get it then. but 'up for a bit with the pastels' seems good after one listen (it turned up yesterday). and how good is the new gentle waves single (and, indeed, sister woman, which was on the select cd thingymajig)?? halloween was pants, but only because i didn't have time or money enough to buy a costume. and i know i could have made one, but all my clothes-making energies are going into making a dogtanion tee shirt, and maybe a field mice one. but i'm going to steal the 'chocolate love sex' idea for the field mice tee, and stick that on a light blue shirt (like the study at stow one). anyways, i went down the pub all night and drank flaming aftershocks, which was fun, especially when i tried to cook a curry at midnight and kept dropping stuff on the floor. and then eating it. righty-ho, my first question is 'does anyone know anything about heavenly of sarah records fame??' were they any cop? can you still buy any of their records?? should i?? come on, tell me, i need to know . . . :) my idea is (sorry this isn't a very long e-mail, but i've forgotten everything i was going to say) how about a gentle waves meet up in london? and how about for the gig on the saturday night, cos then we could go to blow-up (grate northern soul/60s place which my friends made me leave early last time cos they couldn't dance to any of the music)? well, that's it, remarkably poor, i know, but what can you do? cheery-byes, ian. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Sinister: I'm a little pixie

hullo. we did a ouija board last night and whenever we asked it anything it just kept saying 'B S B S B S' over and over again. i don't know, i think it may just be my subconscious projecting belle & sebastian onto the board but then again... earlier we had some russian woman called nikya who died in 1915. she said she died when she fell. we asked her where she fell and she said 'down'. its a bit strange, eddy and rowly had their fingers on it and nothing was happening, then i lightly touched it myself with no pressure on the glass at all and it started moving really fast. but i'm still not convinced because it didn't tell us anything we couldn't have made up ourselves. i know a girl at goldsmiths called bex and (she was approached by someone who asked 'are you on sinister' because she was wearing a b&s badge upside down. she's not, she just has badge alignment difficulties, in fact those were the first words i said to her (i think) so she was amused/scared/worried/etc. but hi to whoever that was and well spotted. i said i would go see b&s with her when they next play in london but i'll probably be dead by then. someone said they haven't listened to b&s for ages. this goes for me too but only because i've taken all their cds round to my friends house and he just plays them in his bookshop all day which is probably a worthier cause but still i think i need them back. if you want to go to a bookshop that plays tigermilk, looper and soft machine and looks like the shop at the beginning of the never-ending story then you should go to northam books, northam rd, southampton. and the books are pretty good too, if you were wondering. and if you're a girl you'll fall in love with adam because they all do for some reason and not with me. bah. xxx weejay +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. I can imagine Peter Miller whistling at the screen while the "overture" music, shown with no images.......I bet he didnŽt know that this was Mr. Von Trier intention. IŽd love to be present on a chat between Von Trier and Pedrito Miller. ThatŽd be a nice gift for the whole humankind :) Just felt that I had to say something else ......iŽve followed the Joan of Dark - Velocity - Brier discussion......we can be agree or not with Joan, she wrote something clever, and Velocity replied.....and replied just showing that she wasnŽt agree....I didnŽt feel that "cut cut cut" thing that Brier (who had a lovely idea with the Tweeshirt contest) wrote......After almost 2 years of being on this list and months of chatting at #sinister, iŽve realised that people like Velocity arenŽt the ones who tend to "cut cut cut". Hi all, this is my first post. Yet another froggy, I'm afraid! I recently noticed more and more documentaries on the telly with cool soundtracks. The other day it was the very long intro of "Gene Clarke" by Teenage Fanclub, and last night it was a Vic Chesnutt song... on a documentary about death penalty in the US... Elliot #1: Smith rocked my world on tuesday dressed up properly for halloween playing serious-ish songs but not taking himself too seriously looking much cuter in person than in photos playing a rad cover of "Don't fear the reaper" generally putting on an amazing show one complaint: not enough acoustic stuff (but it did rock) Elliot # 2: my cat still cute but annoying me running everywhere putting paw prints of blue paint all across three panels of carfeully damar-varnished surfaces could be "Hallmark Store" material but not REALLY appropro for my shiz-it but... ...can't stay mad at a little kitty can you? What i thought J.of Dark was talking about was more a reconstruction... and she was essentially building rather than destroying. Well, she made ME smile anyway. She usually does.
