So Stuart Murdoch got his tits out? Surely someone must have taken a picture of this. I would have, then I'd make copies of it and sell it in the bogs for 50p a shot. He's fucking lovely, isn't he. Gorgeous. Was his chest really hairy? And ginger? Does that mean he's got ginger pubes? The music papers would pay a fortune for a picture like that. Was he wearing little shorts, and did one testicle hang out the side when he sat down cross legged? You lucky people. Did he swear a lot when he played football? Was he fucking raging? Did he hack anyone? Who hacked him and made his leg bleed? They'd better watch themselves. I'm off work till 2nd may, and I've got an 'empty' for a week. Hey, it's B&S content time. I note that some jester, replying to my last Chris Evert, I mean, effort, said that Stuart Murdoch wasn't very good at footy. He said it in different terms from those - he used almost industrial language, Melvyn - but I'm not a believer in swearing in print. I think his whole post was 'ironic', anyway, but I'm not good at detecting that. I do go to an evening class on it, though, run by former Osasuna forward Michael Robinson. But he only speaks in Spanish nowadays, so progress is slow. Well, what I want to establish here is that on ATP evidence, Murdoch is a *surprisingly good footballer*. There are two categories of people to whom SM's skill won't be a surprise: 1) folk who think he's the spuming fountainhead of galactic talent and is equally brilliant at *everything*; 2) folk like Ally1996, who've probably been playing with him on 'scratch pitches', 'ashpits' and 'tenement cellar floors', with 'wee bairns' for opposition, for the last 16 years. But to the rest of us - well, to me - it really was a surprise how good this fellow was on the 'pitch', I mean, pitch. As others have already remarked, he doesn't have an ounce of flab on him. Butter, maybe, I didn't check his pockets; flab, no. He was surprisingly muscular in places. Still, you can be a tough guy and still lack talent. Ask David Ginola. But this lad had pace - he covered ground very quickly - stamina - he stayed on, once he'd entered the fray, and never looked tired - and sufficient resilience to carry on playing once he'd gashed himself. His passing was sound, he was comfortable with the ball at his feet, and he packed a real cannonball of a shot, although, like real cannonballs, they weren't always accurate. But who is, in the pressure of a 5-a-side game? Well, the rest of the Jockey strike force, admittedly. Apologies to those who think this is just football talk for boys. But for one thing, you can wheel it out next time anyone says B&S are shrinking violets. They're growing chrysanthemums, mate, and not just in their window-box. For another, it struck me that SM must be - and I hope to cause no offence here - better at footy than, say, 80 per cent of the members of this list. That's notwithstanding the fact that there are some great players on this list, and that many of the rest couldn't give a Socceroo about the game, about which I promise to fall silent after I finish using language. Add to that the fact that Murdoch is, let's say, and again no offence to any pop stars or anyone else out there, A better guitarist than 90% of sinister A better singer than 95% of sinister A better songwriter than 100% of sinister, unless there was anything in that rumour about the lad MacManus joining in February - and these are pretty conservative estimates - and, well, it just needs Steady Mike to put them into his master-computer and prove how gifted this fellow is. In short, I am just beginning to agree with the folk in category 1) above. We really do have a bit of a spuming fountainhead on our hands, and splashing all over us. What ho! You know, comrades, some times you come back from a weekend festival of esoterrorism feeling like you've lost that spring in your step, that extra yard of pace, that giddy infatuation with all things P!O!P!. You feel like a jaded 30something covered in mystery bruises. But then you receive a cut-out-and-keep mini-Baxendale in the post, and find yourself legging it across town having received the last minute news that the Montgolfier Brothers are playing at the 12 Bar.... and all is right in the world. Thanks to everyone who has written in about ATP. I feel I have a slightly firmer grasp on the events of the weekend now. If anyone has any pictures and would like them displayed somewhere, send them to me, and we'll do a little photo-essay on the papercuts website some time. Nice to see Peter Miller emerging from whatever rock he has been hiding under. Matt Bianco, eh? My Sidmouth correspondent maintains that it was one of his schoolfriends that rang in on that fateful Saturday Superstore appearance. But he also tells me that he likes that last Kevin Rowlands record, so I'm not sure if I believe him. Talking of washed-up 80s popstars (Rowlands/Bianco - not Tim Hopkins) did anyone else see the news on Saturday that Steve Strange (the Simon Price of the 80s) has been busted for shoplifting? He was caught trying to nick a tellytubbies doll. In court he asked for a few other offences including stealing a Boots make-up kit and a lady's jacket to be taken into consideration. Can you imagine any greater loss of dignity? I look forward to reading of Marilyn's descent into the shady world of Pokemon smuggling. I imagine he would be a jigglypuff boy. Interesting to read of the the involvement of far-east gambling cartels in South African cricket. You must have made a mint, Ooooooooon. I might see some of you at the Spearmint/Baxendale gig tonight. I will be the one in the diamante hairslide. Sorry and Thank You in Advance. So there's this gossip about Belle and Sebastian being in the US while I'm in Scotland...and in Europe when I'm back in US. DammitDammitDammit. hate rumours. Anyway. I already am plotting on flying back to the US for a weekend...That's lots more $$$ though, frivilous too. That's what the second job is for, forget the bills, I WANNA ROCK! (Guess I'll have to stay.) I should be wary of these thoughts though as I am broke now. Not sure how I pulled this trip off but it's not together yet. I'm still on U.S. soil. Seeing Looper on Friday. I'm going with my friend who lives waaaay closer to Baltimore than myself. She's never heard them. Hmmm...her hubby's coming too. They'll either love 'em or hate 'em. Who knows? How many of you are gonna be at the show? I must remember to wear a B&S badge upside down and visible so as to be identified. >:). Let's see: I'm 5'8" or so, I am a woman and a big girl at that, blueblack dyed midlength kinda flippy, layered in the nonfarrahfawcett way hair, nosering, brown eyes, 20-something. Probably gonna be wearing grey sneakers; either grey/yellow/blue addidas laceups or grey/green tones acupuncture velcro. Possibly black elastic sided boots tho. The crow flies at midnight. LOL! Oh, BTW, I'm gonna be in Glasgow for 5-7 weeks (summer program @ Glasgow School of Art). Who wants to meet up? We can do stuff. like drink or dance or walk around and look at stuff or picnic. I don't know what...that we could figure out later. Also, I'll probably have questions for yous Glaswegians about stuff. Oh, my vocabulary skills are FABulous today. LOL again. This has nothing to do with anything, but, Kelis is the singer on Old Dirty Bastard's "Got Your Money" song. I thought this was supercool. (B&S content, this info was noted in the select with Stu M in the "pin-up" section which just now came out in the U.S) Comments on ATP even tho I wasn't there. Oooh, Labradford is from the town where I live now. I saw them in a converted cinema a few years ago. My spine was vibrating it was good. All in a 20 X 50 foot space. I've been at Sonic Youth concerts before where I've had, I kid you not, spiritual revelations. Maybe not that intense, but they were amazing. Listening to "The Diamond Sea" whilst standing in a field under a meteor shower with strobe light style chrismas lights on stage. Um, *wow*. However, this is told to precede my statement that I'm not so excited at the new stuff. I hate it when people don't like a band when the band develops or changes yet still rules. But noodleing can only take you so far. Gonna quit while I'm ahead on this argument. I have to know. This is not list abuse cos it's to ask to find songs of B&S. Is napster PC only? My Mac, me, and napsters website have not had a good relationship so far. Any suggestions? Anyway, It's 1:20 a.m. and I must get up at daybreak. Again, dammitdammitdammit. the subject line had nothing to do with anything. today i found that a hummingbird is nesting in the tree outside my building. It's true, isn't it--that that hummingbirds are only found in the Americas?? other types of birds in the other continents fill their ecological niche. but i think hummingbirds are really twee. they're tiny, sparkly,pretty colored, and they beep and squeak, hang around pretty flowers and buzz like helicopters, and build teeny tiny little TINY nests. i had never seen a nest before in real life, and the mother was sitting on it. wow. Just wanted to say, for credit where credit is due, that Jess and I invented the worlds very first Sinister stickers, circa last march when i visited her in pittsburgh. they were circulated amongst a number of listees, and indeed have traveled to places as numerous as washington DC, missouri, france, ccamber sands bowlie, and london. (etc??) they consisted (and still do) of small yearbook photos from 1972 that was bought in a thrift store, and each anonymous face is captioned with an enigmatic belle and sebastian quote. tasteful, subtle, and above all, puzzling to the uninitiated and unwashed masses. Perhaps they will make a comeback sometime soon?? *hmmm*?? i dont' know. My point is, we made the original sinister sticker album, collect them all, stick them up all over your favorite city or bathroom stall, and irritate the bourgeousie. it's a worldwide movement. I was also going to make up some "Shiny Apple Posse" stickers, like Andre the Giant has a posse, only i! t's stu art murdoch. i have a couple of designs but never got around to making them into atual stickers becasue i have no money. I know there are gay boys on sinister, i heard em talking about how sexy stuart is. really. er, uh ARSE NAPPIES! i apologize for the content of this post and must return to my buddhist studies. there is a bluddy show on about near death experience, whether it's scientifically fuckin real. i have two words. W H O C A R E S ????????? I really despise the human race, did i ever mention that before? why dont' they all jsut leave well enough alone. did i ever mention that i fully advocate the mass destruction/infiltration/severe crippling of the world's genetic research facilities? Not that i'd do it myself, i'm a coward. im just saying i wouldn't be complaining if it was all done for. serves em bloody right, morons. well, i should be going, i have to go clone my dead 2 year old father and stick einsteins brain in him, and use the leftover parts to grow radioactive cancer cells and anthrax...OOOHH!!! it sounds like fuckin PARADISE don't it now!!!? I don't know about you, but if you were having a special on FWC you would play FWC stuff, not all nofx, - my point I'm getting there. Maybe not. Just keep in mind it is 1/30pm and I got in at 4am this morning and I am at work and still drunk I believe because I have forgotten my point.... I actually listened to BWTAS this morning when I got home. It is pure joy to listen to. I'm sure you all know this. I'm just letting you know. Sinister: Montreal picnic

Hello Montreal people:) It's this time of year when it's tiome to think about picnics ( it may not look like it with all the snow there's in Montreal apparently);) Well The plan thus far is a nice meet up on May 20th in Parc Lafontaine , close to the lake. I know there's 2 of them but close to the wee cabin that's in the middle. so, today was nice but cold and my friend ben and i hung out and did things and he's done his highschool midterms and i'm just wrapping up uni for the year, and so far, after one year,except for the bit of freaking out that i did last week university is ok. actually, its quite a racket and i can't believe that having a degree in something gets you taken more seriously than someone who doesn't have one. i feel pretty unchanged by it, except for getting to have tea more and getting invited to drink on weekdays. ben is on this list but never posts, but sends me fabulous email....is this fair? should i be the only one here to bask in the beam of his flashlight of genius? certainly not! but there are two real things of list-like business to mention.... 1...could someone who apperantly taped legal man off the radio put it in mp3 and hustle it around on napster so that those of us who are into instant gratification and hearing new belle and sebastian records before they come out in stores can gratify ourselves instantly. 2...also, there will be a mystery vistor to toronto called juan carlos moya...(fuck, the cat is out of the bag) and he will be in town from the 20th on...so maybe on the 21st we (being those of us in toronto) should all get together carry him to a place where he can consume alchoholic beverages with us. if any toronto types have any good ideas about how to do this then we should all send email around to eachother and see what comes of this... yes. and then we should all meet up on the 21st and hang out. yes. the bats won't be closed for easter things yet on the21st will they? even if they are we can still go to a bar. damn bats, closing unexpectedly all the time.... poop, well this has just gone on tooooo much and is no good. good bye then... s t e v e n k a d o ! +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister(a)missprint.org. Hi Sinister, I'm very sorry to hear that Sonic Youth were shit at ATP. I really am. They were brilliant once.
