So yes, i don;t write for a long time, then i write a little bit in response to a months worth of stuff. is that ok? first: HELLO!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH RUVI? Nothing really, except for talking a lode of cack about necrophelia and pretty girls vs. smart girls...Ruvi is pretty Rad. yes, his first post about square-dancing was NEARLY PROUSTIAN. only much shorter. significantly shorter. he brought up sylvia plath who at least had the guts to stick her head in the oven unlike that dreadful elizabeth smart woman who lived forever and ever and wrote terrible books. the best thing about sylvia plath so far is that talk of her compelled jillian locke to post! rah! >Pinefox asked: Is it true, by the way, that Pynchonians just don't like Salinger? yes. The Dave Matthews Band is bad like Israeli Trance. boo! did anyone else find that the new baxendale joint is like a kind of anthem for a new tomorrow? a mission statement even...a kind of flashlight of hope? no? sorry. someone didn't like physicists. i take great umbrage at this statement since a) one of my best friends is in physics b) my girlfriend is also in physics. and they are nice people and not at all creepy or stupid or lax or anything, to be frank they're probably acres cooler than you, so there! of course me and the rest of the young barthesians in the wanky semiotics dept. find anything remotely sciency to be mind-bendingly exotic so maybe i look at physics with rose coloured glasses or something. Greg Pallis is pretty fucking rad too, despite having made an ass of me to his teacher by printing out one of my hamfisted drunken rants...oh well. the remarkably named dairy fairy said: >I am going to see arab strap this friday. On the subject of Charleston and pretty phones, here I am. I do not live in Charleston, NC---I'm deeply sorry, but I will have to miss that picnic as I live on the opposite side of the United States of America. Isn't Charleston a dance? I think I've always wanted to learn how to. Also, SCAD. it's a lovely acronym, and the school sounds interesting. When you mentioned all the nifty girls it caught my eye---maybe the nifty-ness would rub off if i journeyed to Savannah, Georgia from my plaid perch here in California. To someone who said they have a pretty new phone (i pressed delete before I was aware of the sender), I wish I could call and cheer you up but these (insert swear word here) calls cost so much money and these (insert another swear word) phone companies rip everyone off. The world would be a much happier place, if you could just pick up the phone and dial and perhaps make a new friend from anywhere. Sinister: Adventures at K-town Uni

This post has only got minor Belle & Sebastian content. On the B&S Content Scale I would give it around a four, probably. And that may be generous. This post is probably best summed up in the following sentence, if you're in a hurry. I went to Kutztown to visit my friend Ryan and check out the campus. Day 1. The first day was swell, I was tired from driving up there but there was a festival outside. Bear Day, or something. I got a strawberry milkshake, which was nice. I walked around the campus and thought what a beautiful day it was. Then we hung about the dorms, until Ryan had to go home to see his sister's play. That was fine though; 'cause I had other friends there. And I would make other friends to boot. There was this fellow named Woody that really amused me. He always walked around with his hands down his pants. So did Lem. I wondered if it was Kutztown tradition. Apparently there had been some sort of party the night before that had gotten busted and there was a bit of a buzz from that. We went out to play mini-golf. I got third place, which was pretty good for me. I am hardly an avid mini-golf player so it came to me as quite a surprise that I actually got a hole in one on hole thirteen. I was proud. Although I didn't want to cheer or anything like that, because I didn't know these people too terribly well and when I tried to talk around them I got a bit shaky and flushed so I didn't do it too much. I just watched them. They may have been a bit unnerved by all the watching that I was doing and the small amount of talking. After mini-golf we went to a lovely record store called the Young Ones. There used to be a Young Ones near me but it got shut down. There is no correlation between the two stores. So, I found the Lost Patrol import that I'd been searching for high and low so I was excited about that. I was wearing a Weezer hoodie and got to talking to the girl behind the counter about Weezer for awhile. She'd seen them too. She was very friendly but I felt bad about talking to her because I didn't want to harass her while she was working, even though she initiated the conversation. What a nice store. I forget what we did after Young Ones. I may have taken a nap. I tossed my sleeping bag on the floor that night and tried to sleep. I think I had a conversation with Ryan after he returned from his sister's play around midnight but I was half-asleep. If I did don't worry about it; it can't have been that interesting. Day 2. So, I was needing a shave. But I forgot my razor. I should've shaved before I left, I thought. Eh. I went to Six Flags with the rest of the dorm and rode some rides. I said a lot of nothing to the people I went with even though I thought they were exciting. When we got home I met some more interesting people. I felt really bad for one girl in particular. She said her cramps were unusually painful this time around. She thought that her ovary had exploded. I said ouch, and I hope you feel better. Because I really didn't know what to say to that. Later that night I went across and played chess with some people that I didn't know at all. They were high but they still beat me. Lucky, that's what they were. Back in the day I was quite the frequent chess player. Although I think I lost a fair amount back in the day, as well. A girl in one of the upper dorms said that she had an empty room that I could sleep in but I didn't want to impose. I slept in Ryan's bed instead of on the floor. He was up until 4:15 working on a project for the next morning's class. Day 3. I pitched on some generic clothes. I was excited because today we went to class. I was very keen on this idea of going to class because I could meet new people. Ryan told me that there was a girl in the class that was wearing a Belle & Sebastian shirt and that I should talk to her and her friends because he knew that B&S were my favorite band. I thought it sounded like a great idea. So we got to class and I was keen on sharpening my social skills and making new friends. Although when I thought about talking, I got shaky and flushed, just like on the mini-golf course. Sometimes I'm worried that when I talk to people that they'll think that I'm making passes at them. I didn't want the girl to think that at all, since I really had no basis for conversation other than that Ryan said she had a b&s shirt. We went to the library to find pictures of grasshoppers and the girl was there. Her and Ryan made funny insect poses and I laughed. She seemed like she would be fun to talk to but I still didn't say anything. I was unshaven and a bit disheveled from my late night. She may have thought that I was a child molester. We found some grasshopper pictures and went for coffee. On the way back to the dorm from coffee we passed the girl but I didn't say anything again because I didn't want her to think I was hitting on her. At lunch I made a mess of the waffleiron and felt a bit bad for the lunchladies. We went to Young Ones again and I bought Up A Tree, which is what I listened to while waiting on a parkbench outside the dorm for my mother. Everyone was really friendly to me, although I have to admit that I regret not talking to a lot of interesting people. I'll go back soon though, and I recommend that everyone go there as well. It's just a nice campus. Respectfully, Timothy. p.s. Sorry for using the mailing list as a diary. Just thought that someone may be excited by my fun stories. p.p.s. Well, Mr mark casarotto your message has made me VERY VERY excited. I dont suppose you happen to be a synaesthete do you? Were you being serious when you said B&S taste like soil, please say yes? Im gonna take this opportunity to make a massive confession to you all and scare the pants off of you. and i swear by my snails grave that this is true: When i was 14 i got hit by a big car and as a result i lost my sense of smell due to the nerve endings being singed. Since then many many strange things have happened to me. I get smells for emotion, music, colour, people and places. Its a rare form of Synaesthesia and there are many neurologists after my blood. i wont go into great detail cause i dont wanna scare you all but certain bands and albums have certain smells. the charlatans are musky and woody whereas underworld are a beautifully distinctive perfume and b&s are kind of fresh and autumnal. tap tap tap tap tap hey there.... ...hmmmmmm...i do like this time of year...its not quite summer...and things seem to be drawing to a close...four weeks left of college and counting...and then its e**ms...which i should be thinking about now...but cant be bothered too...this is a really bad thing but i just cant seem to summon up any kind of motivation and to be honest i dont paticularly care...i'd rather know if its going to be sunny tommorow or not rather than the prime motivating factors for appeasment in the 1930's....if i dont pass then i daresay i'll panic,scream and consider myself a worthless excuse for a human being....but right now i'm just relieved to be finally at the end of an altogether shitty two years at that place....i havent applied to any universities...i dont know if i want to go...i dont know if i'll get the right e**m results anyway...so that leaves me with the bare facts that in 28 days i have to start living in 'the real world'....i could fight for world peace,travel the globe in a lime green mini or become a jungle outlaw...i might get an office job though...that might be fun...hmmmmm...what the hell am i going to do with my life?....its scary...but kind of *wow* in a way...i usually cant figure out whats going to happen in the next ten minutes let alone the next fifty years...just take it as it comes i suppose...i've never been in this kind of situation before...nothing to hold me down...nothing to focus on...no need to stay anywhere really...except i need money of course...i could live off the fruits of mother nature i suppose...i dont know if i'd like the taste of nettle soup though...i've just decided that 'a little soul' is one of the greatest songs ever...possibly...speaking of which..where on earth is the new pulp album?....wasnt scott walker supposed to be producing it?...i loved the new songs they played at reading last year anyhow...the line up this year doesnt seem to be too smelly either as far as main acts go (if you discount the twin evils of travis and the manic street preachers)...a duet between eminem and marylin manson should at least be interesting if the rumors are to be believed...i wore my hand-painted '3..6..9 seconds of light' t-shirt on saturday at the shitey old rawk club...nobody commented except my friends who called me 'a twee bastard'..that was quite dissapointing...i rather hoped it would bring secret b+s lovers out of their korn hoodies and into the sunlight..no such luck...i quite enjoyed jumping around to the deftones however..i'm sure it made an interesting sight...i cant decide if i should brave this picnic...it would be pretty weird seeing real life sinister people in the flesh...like meeting movie stars...or at least c-list soap stars...was that slightly offensive?...i think so...argh..i may get beaten up if i do come now...hmmmmmm......at least its not being held tommorow...everybody might get sprayed with rubber bullets...i'm rambling...i'll go and stare at two years worth of hard(ish) work and pretend to revise about european law...and stuff... ta ta...... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? And yes "smeg" is my word of the week. Well, what a weekend ive had, i saw a mans dingaling in some changing rooms in camden and made a COMPLETE twerp of myself infront of a VERY cute guy who works in tin pan alley. I also drew some cool pictures of cars and want to share them with you all but dont know how. Im looking forward to may 5th but am sorry to say that i cannot provide the stereo because i cant get hold of one so if anyone else can...... to Ewen, dont worry that you dont have anything to say, ive been on this list for about 3 months now and i still talk crap. by the way, great name, i would have been called that if i was a bloke. WOW! X-fm played Legal Man as I was driving home from work... I was just passing Virginia Water and it was looking all verdent and spring like in the afternoon Surrey sun and then those unmistakable guitar notes sounded... it couldn't have been much more perfect. I bought a biography of Nick Drake on Saturday and spent the whole weekend lazing round and playing his albums and being a bit melancholy. Then just before I went to bed I played 'From the Morning' over and over and it was really quite uplifting... I think it's a good time for spring songs. Hope it stays that way for next Saturday. I'll see you London lot up Primrose Hill (not far from where ND stayed apparently). Caleb mentioned Warsaw too, all be it a rather nasty pasty sounding cover, that's one of my fave JD tracks. I think I'd better find some more upbeat roll models as a caveat to Nick and Ian Curtis though...
