Dear Sinister and sinistrines This week has flown away! I guess this is just an excuse, as I am trying to find an excuse to secular and pseudosecular intrinsic laziness. well, anyway, I should have realised by now that the better plans are the unplanned one. In fact, everything started out on last Friday night, after myself and the lovely Mr. Jim Pourpletrousers went to the Magnetic Field in Hammermith. The gig has been absolutely excellent, they played a full acoustic set, in two parts, featuring most (if not all) the songs from the last records and highlights from their back catalogue. I have to admit I didn't have their new album, but was so enthusiastic that I got it almost straight away after that, and there are al least a handful of song which are definitely great. I got the feeling that Stephen Merrith sense of humour is getting sharper and sharper, but, might be is only an impression of mine, not as bitter as it use to be. It reflect quite a lot on the stage performance as everyone looked very relaxed and they looked like enjoying their selves as well, which is always nice to see. Anyway, right on my way home, I realised I had my change of tube line was right a train station, and I couldn't resist all the sensible thoughts about those letters the bank sends to your address and that they call account balance, and just, essentially run, but that was not to let the last service leave the platform without myself, not that it would have mind, but, I would have reasonably had, and got myself a ticket for Glasgow. There should be something magic about Scotland that I can't define. It can be the endless sunlight in the summer. It can be the Clyde. Can be the fact that there are kids running on the top of the walls of castles and you can spot them from the train window. Well, there should be a reason or not. But doesn't matter. By midday I was happily in the botanical garden. The day has been absolutely brilliant and shiny. So much that I almost got a tan! Not that I am really interested in that, but when I said that to one of my colleagues, Chris who's from Edinburgh, he looked at my in disbelief, and probably he still honestly think, I've actually skived work on Monday because of a drink binge on the coast or on a Greek island but, let's try to add some content to this randomness. Belle and Sebastian were absolutely great, I think. Might be I'm just letting myself being influence by the rather rare wave of good mood, but not, I think it was very good. Actually, at present, can't wait for the Sommerset House gig which is JUST in a few weeks but looks like an endless time. Miss Ellebelle had a call for a picnic on the occasion: it seems more then reasonable to me, have to say. What a better opportunity for having enjoying the sun with the people in the park? Going back to the gig, I not very good at remembering the song list, and haven't put enough effort to collect one from the sound guys (that by the way, were a lot!) so more or less randomly, they played quite a few from the last record, as obvious, but also a good selection of oldies favourite, including, as far as I can remember, Julie and the dream of horses, the stars of track and field, like Dylan in the movies and dogs on wheels, which was my favourite act, by the way, together with lazy lane painter Jane, when Monica Queen also joined on stage: brilliant! They also looked extremely relaxed even when a football carrying the Brazilian flag colours has start to bounce over the stage, a few times, and particularly when an idiot decided to throw a bottle of water at the band. By the way Steve exhibit in a "superbowl-like" kick of the aforementioned football which could have valued him a convocation for next Scotland international: nice. Camera Obscura played a rather short set, but it was very lovely. Of the bands playing in the early afternoon I have to say I quite enjoyed the red bed society, while I was quite happy of being entangled in possibly the longest queue ever for a toilet, when a band, of which I can't remember the name, but who definitely looked like and sound much like INXS were on stage. Especially the guy wearing a suit, with a white tie, in that hot, needs some sort of compensation from a human right found or something like that I also try to pretend I knew where to go in Glasgow, and off course got lost, and dragged the shameless Mark Hester with me, in a useless walk to Kelvinhall tube station, when we should have actually walked to Kelvin bridge. The advantage of having a single circular tube line is that you can to the place you need rather quickly anyway and that was the Winchester Club. The flower power were fairly entertaining, Pipas definitely excessively shambling guess they needed a DJ in between one song and another, possibly the pause being longer then the song their selves which wouldn't have been that bad otherwise I probably need a little bit more of patience. The club was packed and the DJ choices excellent, I can't remember a great deal, but me and Patrick dancing (alone) on the Clash, was fairly funny! Then it became the hotter spot on the planet, but that didn't keep people away from the dance floor, until the lady on the door almost literally shuffled them off the place. Shame I can't really take a train to Glasgow all weeks mumble! Gigs gigs gigs! I might imagine some living in London of might like to know that Sodasteam are playing Friday, which is tonight, at the Sheppard's bush hall... I know... I planned to write this on Monday, but then I should have known myself better. I didn't mean to clash with Astrid meet up at how does it feel, but just, you know, I think they are absolutely lovely and the concert generally finishes early enough that one can get to both places talking about being sensible: not really. I like the colon today. Only in its grammatical point of view. I suppose. Sinister: on the radio

I tend not to listen to the radio anymore... why bother eh? ...but while driving home from a painfully late community council meeting (at which they debated curbside rubbish collection for 45 minutes and the placement of the town flag for at least 20 more) I popped on Radio One and who knew they had a Scottish indie show on Thursday nights eh? Well, probably everyone but me, but that's besides the point. They have a B&S competition going on just now, and will be featuring highlights from this past weekend's botanic gardens gig on next week's show. So there you go. Don't tell me I don't do anything for y'all. I'll even provide you with a handy link. I bet loads of sinisterenes were, I just couldn't be arsed to search them out, as it was PACKED. What an odd crowd too eh? The highlight of the day had to be getting chatted up by a 41-year-old Ned who wanted to know more about this great band called Belle and Sebastian. He stunk of beer and was a bit scary but ended up being surprisingly sweet and harmless. "I bought their first album, what's it called, Boy with the Arab Strap? The green one? You know? Well, I like it and all and tell me more. Are they good? I mean, I think they're good but I notice you've been singing along so you must know about them right?" Aww. Bless. Afterwards, we (me and my crew, not me and scary old Ned) - and about half of the Bowlie kids too it seems - swung by the Woodside for more great sounds, and sweaty dancing. Very sweaty. Ick. I made a new friend there too, the most adorable Japanese boy whose name I can't remember and couldn't spell even if I did. I've been seeing him at loads of gigs around town and finally introduced myself. And we danced. Awww. I bet he's on here. Hello there sweetie. Did any of you go to the official aftershow thing? Do tell about it. I'm curious. That's about all I have to report, really. I'm back up in the middle of nowhere north-east Scotland, twiddling my thumbs and watching too much TV and biding my time until my next foray down south... and SLOVENIA! Woo! Holiday! Gosh I'm dull. Hope y'all are better. And apologies for being incommunicado fo so long. I wish I could say it's because I've been too busy but we all know that's not true. I'm just lazy. And bored. Hi All, That's a long time between B&S gigs, Peter. Were you just waiting for another free one to come along? We (Sally, Lixi & I) enjoyed it grately too. Two top gigs in 4 days, blimey. Thanks to the band, er, xfm, & er er, J@meson Wh1skey I guess. Stuart even had a fag on stage. Shocking. Thanks also to the person repeatedly bellowing for 'String Bean Jean', which is normally a real drag, but which resulted last night in them playing the song, which is probably my absolute favourite of theirs. Hot librarians in the 'Wrapped Up In Books' video here: http://www.xfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=27910 . The girl in the photo on that page has beautiful eyes. Maybe the lop sided fringe helps, I dunno. The Carling Academy is also one of those places that make you throw away a bottle of water from your bag on the way in so that they can charge you £2.20 for a 500 ml bottle once inside. Dear Sinisterines and -ettes, Um, if one were so inclined, one could listen to "Your Cover's Blown" over at the excellent music blog: Said the Gramophone (http://www.tangmonkey.com/blogs/music/) Although, I should say this- it's probably better just to stream it, because otherwise the website will collapse into bandwith-exceeded coma. The song, by the way, is amazing. Stuart definitely gives a nice Michael Jackson-esque 'unh' in the first thirty seconds of the track which = pure hotness. I feel as if this is maybe the first Belle and Sebastian song that could be appropriately played at an uptown coke-party. Sinister: A Century of Wakers

The sky above is pale blue, paler than eyes. The clouds cirrus is it or no cumulus are wispy and blown across the corners of the sky. I was going to say: it is always sunny on Bloomsday - but no: two years agao the rain tipping down as Spain's penalties put the Republic out and the barmen started removing their leprechaun hats; sheets of rain down the quays to O'Conell Bridge, festivities cancelled. Cirrus it is after all. Monday night: roygbiv is that all the colours it is on the edge of the air at Sandymount. Dogs live and liver chasing each others' tails across the packed sand. Cocklerpickers, ghost ships. Bailey light comes on in the distance, too far and fast flashing for a photograph. The next day from St Stephen's, that is, Trouss�'s, Green, wander South hardly knowing a destination: Leeson Street South, Morehampton Road, Donnybrook Road. Trees line avenues: concrete banks like old fortified police stations of 1919: pubs, estate agents and takeaways declare their location, like the Drumcondra Laundry. A dacent bookshop here, all this way out in nowhere, somewhere, Dublin visitors don't seek, beyond the slow jet of the canal, up to the crooked line of the Dodder. Follow that to the coast? No - I am on a trek now: head south again, up to a bus stop where the advert for sausages depicts JJ and the schoolgirls turn out to be holidaying Americans. Endless roads of grey matter down south into anonymity: Stillorgan feels like a trellis of highways. 1960s modernization Ireland. The bus heads off the map, takes in every available permutation of the posters for European election candidates with their warm real phoney gas man TD smiles. Dun Laoghaire and south with little fuel in me own tank. Scent of the rocks below the tower where I clambered the day after two years gone, the day after Robbie Keane hit two pens on target and went out. I ask the curator if he remembers me. - Struggling to remember... the context. I don't tell him it was the Kaiser's school we spoke at. Busy? - Rushed off my feet. - Literally. - Literally. Like you-know-who. Heading out again I declare, - I'll be back. One day. Pints below the stained glass of Fitzgerald's where the oldsters aggressively ask each other, - Would you like a drink? and the curate brings me mine and offers a merely approximate charge at first. Good Lord. Even back in the day (aah, Dunfermline 2001!), and I had two extra tickets as my father and my sister couldn't stand stu's voice, I gave my tickets away. Fucking touters piss me off. Anyway, I'm going to annoy everyone as there is FREE BELLE AND SEBASTIAN GIG not 100 yards from my flat and i'm not going! muwahahaha So I just wanted to say that Neil's post was dangerously close to being totally fucking old school Neil Robertson! Very exciting. More people should post controversial statements so he can kick ass Robertson style! No point to this post. Other than the fact that Crowded House' "Don't Dream It's Over" is a quality tune, and the video is up for download on Alex Proyas' website. www.mysteryclock.com. Sinister: Twee in the Park!

Hola Sinistras S'it hot where you are? Coz it's uncommonly warm here in Arbroath (the armpit of North East Scotland), where I'm spending a week with my folks. It's the usual Summer visit. We all have to do it. We all get to whinge about it. Anyway, the great thing is that only the way up from London to here, I stopped in on Glasgow for the 'Belle & Sebastian and friends' FREE concert at the Botanic Gardens. Did anyone else go? The night before, I went to Sufjan Stevens at 'Stereo', which was a fine warm-up, and we even [are pretty sure we] saw Isobel (Campbell, that is), looking very happy with a young man, and with her lovely pony-tail swinging off into the uncommonly mild Glasgow night. So, Saturday, and by way of some kinda miracle, the city took on tropical traits and it was a scorcher! Straight down the Brel (smashing pub with great grassy slope out the back) we went for a few pre-gig pints, then off to the park. Got to the park - great! Realise there's nowhere to buy booze - bad! Back outta the park (sneaking past security men eating ice lollies, God love 'em), and managed to sweet-talk our way into an Off Licence that was threating to close coz of demand... So then we're back in the park again, and settling in for the show, and WHAT A SHOW! The band played favourites from all eras - from Dylan in the Movie right through to Stay Loose, and it sounded amazing! Monica Queen made a guest appearance for LLPJ, and there was a REAL LIFE piper for Sleep The Clock Around (which I heard from the portaloo queue, but never mind). All in all, it was an immense evening, and a roaring success by all accounts. We didn't make it to the after party, although we DID try our best to go see Uncle John & Whitelock, but too many Tennent's we stacked against us, I'm afraid. Thanks to the band - Saturday was what it's all about: a really good way to say 'cheers' to the folk of Glasgow for being totally and utterly fucking marvellous. I'm sure the sun shone stronger just for y'all. Love, like it sprays from a dropped can, Miss Ho PS - Hear! hear! to Neil for scuppering that shocking attempt to sell tickets won in a competition. Dear Sinister, Wow, Jonathan Davis from KoRn doing a film with a Belle and Sebastian song title!? Awesome. I once wanted to start a KoRn tribute band called QUoRn, and it was gonna be vegetarian rock. It's funny how "Stay Loose" is prolly my favourite song from DICKWANK, I was listening to it quite a lot on my iPod when it had batteries in it whilst roaming the streets of New York the other week on holiday, and wow that guitar solo is fun. And it's so good to sing along to. "but what about meeee??? They didn't seem to mind though, some even wore shirts that proclaimed to the world that they were all his yankees!!! ---- I'd like to also mention that Neil Robertson once sold me a B+S ticket outside one of their gigs, and he charged me £11, plus a hug, for it. Or maybe I paid £11 for a hug and he gave me a B+S ticket for free. On Ticket related news, if anyone has one or two Saturday Somerset House gig tickets for sale, please sell them to me! Come and meet me at How Does It Feel To Be Loved? on June 18th. If you feel like it, since meeting Ian was so very nice (and he wrote such nice things about me in the weblog - I am blushing! - I want to meet as many of you as possible) I will be the giggly six foot brunette who will be speaking Swedish with her tiny (she is a lot shorter) brunette sister and other people. I think I will be quite hard to miss. Also, I am in the mix cd for the site www.blandband.nu, called blandband.nu vol 1 - songs for a trade. It really is quite exciting to have your band on a CD with other people who make great music, ih! Yes, it was one of Kat's first proper appearances. Also, look out for Martin Gordon's CD Hogwash (?) since me and Amanda sing back-up on the track Fuss Me. I was told there is a weird filter over our voices though, I have nto heard it myself. But it will be interesting none the less and it was a fun experience! ANyways, must now go and socialize with my friends, see you Friday hopefully I am looking forward to going to England so much I could DIE!
