Bonjour tout le monde!
Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. Until this week I had never read
any of Bill Bryson's marvellous oevres, which I am very sad about.
Never mind, I've read a couple now. Laugh? I nearly swallowed my
tongue...
Yesterday I got home from college to find a pleasingly chunky envelope
sitting on my doormat, addressed to me, yes, to ME! And it had my
copies of Little Ink Movies and Ink Polaroids in it! They are truly
lovely things, it has to be said. So I was happy then. Stuart David
for immediate canonisation now! For he is a genius, oh yes he is. And
he's got a "special multimedia box".
Anyway, porn names:
(with the teddy bear/road one): Attila Mando. Sounds more like
a character from Star Trek than a porn person, but there you go;
(with the pet/mother's maiden name one): Pip Tate. Not very
successful either. Never mind, such is life. I don't think I'm cut out
to be a porn star anyway...
ByeBye,
Liz.

I won't be here for the big bunfight on March 12th as I am going away to
sunny Florida for a week. Will miss you all, see you back on the 17th.

'Leaving on a Jet Plane' was Peter, Paul & Mary. Quite a long time pre '77,
possibly '67"!
Ralph McTell sang Streets of London. I think you must have been to quite
a radical school.

1. IYFS says that
"Hilary went to the Catholic Church because she wanted information
The vicar, or whatever" It's a beautifully dismissive way of putting it. But
as we all know, it's priest/Father. Which brings me to Father Ted (rather weak
B&S link, but better than no B&S content). The latest issue of HOT PRESS
(Dublin, Ireland) says that Brian Eno will appear as a priest in the final
episode of the final series of Ted. It even shows a photo of him in his
clerical togs. Quite a sight.
2. <"One of them was "Leaving on a jet-plane" (Don't laugh you bastards!!),
don't ask me :who wrote this 'cos I'm hopeless at anything pre '77.
Erm, John Denver...also wrote " Annies song" which makes me go all goose<
Although John D wrote it, the "popular" version was by Peter, Paul and Mary
(some of whom had different real names!). I remember that the B-side of their
version had very good lyrics - if I can still remember after 25 years they must
have been.

Hi everyone,
I have just been speaking to Neil and he has confirmed that Belle and
Sebastian will definitely be playing gigs this summer.
The dates will probably begin in August and will hopefully encompass
gigs in the UK, Europe and America.
There may even be gigs in other parts of the world after the summer.
As things are confirmed, we'll let you know!
Happy day!
Cheers,
Katrina.

Was on a cd buying expedition in Manhattan yesterday -- and we had the
greatest laugh when we came across this while browsing --
At one cd store, the bin divider for B&S was not one of the regular
printed ones with merely the band name. No, it was hand-drawn in pink marker.
It noted "Belle & Sebastian" and had flowers and a unicorn drawn on. There
was a little guy's face drawn in and he was advising: "We're so gentle and
clever," "p.s. I'm gay."
Has Stuart's alleged orientation now become a marketing point?!? Or is there
a sinisterian having some fun at Kim's on St. Mark's Place?

Doric, is a language is it? I didn't know that, I thought it was just a daft
accent spoken by Aberdonians, indeed it is unintelligable, but I didn't know
that it was anything to do with the words spoken... Still in the back of
beyond lands of deep fried mars bars, I suppose anything's possible.
Cheers,
Keith.

Hello everyone!
I just joined this list a few days ago. This is my first message to the
list.
I´m 24 years old and live in Cologne, Germany. Other favourite bands
include: Suede, Smiths (discovered them years after they
disbanded) / Morrissey, Strangelove (saw them live last night,
brilliant!), Manics, Massive Attack, and many more. My first B&S item was
the "Lazy Line Painter Jane EP", now I own every release except Tigermilk.
If someone could be so nice to make me a copy of this, please e-mail me
privately! I would be eternally grateful!
Due to a two/three weeks holiday I won´t be able to check all those
messages, this list is too busy, so I´ll unscribe again. But I´ll be back.
Bye for now,
see you,
Urs.
P.S. As far as I know, the old scottish language belongs to the family
of gaelic languages. Other members of this family are Welsh, Irish,
Cornish, and Breton (as spoken in Brittany France).

:Now I apologise to our non-uk friends as they may not be familiar with
this, but when I :was at primary school we used to sing a couple of songs
in assembly that would make :me cry.
:One of them was "Leaving on a jet-plane" (Don't laugh you bastards!!),
don't ask me :who wrote this 'cos I'm hopeless at anything pre '77.
Erm, John Denver...also wrote " Annies song" which makes me go all goose
bumpy...there's a New order link to this one, 'cos they were accused of
stealing part of "leaving..." on "run" from the "technique" album, a court
case they lost if i remember rightly...
:The other was a song which I can't remember the name of, but went.....
:"How can you tell me, you're lonely, and say to me that the sun don't
shine. Let me :take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of
London, I'll show you ...
"the streets of london" by "whistling" Roger Whittaker i believe...
alan, with too much time on his hands, and a crap record collection (herp
alpert anyone?)...or should i say "Jasper Milner"...no doesn't quite sound
porn starry does it?

For all those wanting to come along to the IRC band chat on Thursday
12th March at 2pm GMT, PLEASE READ the following instructions. It's
really important you understand how this works beforehand because it
might be a bit frantic, what with everyone throwing their underwear
at the band an' all.
The instructions below are also on the WWW now at
http://www.majordomo.net/sinister/chat/bschat-users.html
P.S. Special message for Susannah from Stuart David: if you're going
to send him any more nudey pictures, please send make them nudey ones
of yourself.

Belle and Sebastian Chat - Users
Organised online chats are notorious for turning into chaos and leaving
everyone dissatisfied so there are some hard and fast rules which will be
applied - you need to read these to take part and because time is limited
infringement of these rules will be treated harshly as it will mess it up
for everyone.
The chat will last about 1 hour. The first 50 minutes will follow a strict
schedule as described below as experience shows this is the only way to
prevent chaos. The last 10 minutes will be a free-for-all and general
bunfight-type-thing.
As described before you need to do the following things first to
participate. Please see notes on all the main B&S websites for guidance but
do it in good time as help will not be available on the day. If you have
any problems please contact d.kitchen(a)virgin.net.
* Download chat software and install
* Join IRC server chat.virgin.net
* Join both chat rooms/channels #Sinister and #JeepsterRecords
The chat will work as follows.
Organised 50 minutes
Everyone can speak in #Sinister but it's absolutely necessary that you stay
quiet except for asking questions, follow-ups and very urgent requests. If
someone starts flooding this channel with rubbish they will be kicked
without warning and banned for 30 minutes - the ban can't be lifted (a
feature of Virgin software).
You should only need to type the following two things in #Sinister:
* "Q", followed by your question if you wish to pose one
* "F" if you wish to ask a follow-up to the current question
There will be "operators" available in #Sinister to handle queries and
problems - they will all have nicknames starting with "Op-". You should ask
these operators if you confused about anything while the chat is taking
place. You should never send a private message to David ("huxley") or Paul
("honey") as they will be swamped with work to keep the chat going. Equally
anyone found trying to private message the band themselves will be kicked
immediately - no appeal - this is taken very seriously as it will mess
things up for everyone.
When you are chosen to ask a question, you will be given a voice in the room
#JeepsterRecords. You will see a personal message in that room and should
ask your question immediately in #JeepsterRecords - please don't go in for
long-winded introductions. You'll be able to follow-up responses quickly
but bear in mind if only 25 people ask questions that's only 2 minutes each.
It's likely that two people will be given voices at a time to help the flow.
Please don't gripe if you don't get a chance to ask your question. We will
do everything possible to be fair to people! But you can imagine how
difficult it will be to coordinate all this - and it's likely there will be
more chats in the future.
Lastly - please bear in mind that the band are very new to IRC chat - most
of them will have never used it before. This is unavoidable really but
please be patient.
Finally - what kind of questions should you ask? Anything! We don't want
an endless round of "why won't you release Tigermilk"'s but one or two are
fine... But try and stay friendly and don't ask questions that show how
clever you are and can't really be answered :)
Last 10 minutes
Everyone will be given a voice in #JeepsterRecords and chaos will reign.
Please try and give the band time to speak.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's it - enjoy the chat and please make sure you remember the rules
above. Sorry it's all so harsh but these things often fall to pieces and
this is an attempt to make it better. If it seems to go well and everyone
abides by the rules we may be on for a few more.
