Spawny get!
I couldn't get a ticket.
Saw them at The Fleece last year (or was it longer ago?). They were good,
although only just working out their drummerloop'n'sitars sound, having
previously been a fairly ordinary indie band. (They originally wanted to be
called Pakishop, but couldn't get gigs or record deals).(Maybe they should
revert, now they're bigger than god).
What's the betting the gig gets pulled now they're number one?

I think that's all we need to know about this person's musical taste.
On the other hand, of course, he was right about Radiohead, Embrace and

Hello fellow sinisterians,
Just wanted to make a comment about B&S being played on the radio. If any
of you live in the Boston area, like myself, (I know Matt N. does too, as I
used to listen to his show on 'MBR) you will know that the only stations
that will play B&S are the college stations, which is the case with most
cities in the states; That is, until now. Two weeks ago (friday the 13th.
of February) on the commercial "alternative" station, WFNX, Belle and
Sebastian was played during the day. They played "Stars of Track and
Field" and my whole day was made by hearing it on the radio. Now I know
that this will not be an everyday occurrence, because on the day it was
played, it was "freeform friday" at the station, meaning that the djs had
free reign on what they could play (and I had bugged all the djs for the
entire week to hear it!) but at least it was played once and will possibly
be played again because in 2 weeks there will be another "freeform friday"
and I'll be bugging the djs again to death!! So if any listies live in
Boston or can listen to the radio over the net (WFNX broadcasts over the
net at www.wfnx.com) be sure to check in on Friday, March 13 and listen up
for belle and sebby on the radio!!

April is the cruellest month... but March, May and June don't look very
hospitable either...
No records before July, said Katrina the other day... What on earth are we
going to talk about?
I'm getting to feel like a WWI tommy stuck in the Somme as the shrapnel
from the "biscuit vs bar" wars flies overhead. To keep me entertained in
the weeks ahead I've devised this amusing little game you may wish to join
in...
Award yourself one point everytime...
Someone unsubs to the list
Someone asks for a tape of T*******k
Paul offers to have your babies
Award yourself five points whenever
Mean Andy Dean says "check out the archives, dumbass"
Keith says that he has a hangover
Trousers forgets to find a Monday poem
Susannah makes a smutty innuendo about Stu M
Peter Miller is compared to an obese comedian
Ten points for
figuring out the full list of people genevieve has crushes on
guessing who the "fake northy" is
spotting a tagmail that does not contain the words "nymph", "redscum" or
"francoise"
starting an indie snob war between Tim and Andreas
Fifty points for
persuading the duke to come back
producing a tape of chris leonard doing his matthis impression
hearing Katrina say "personally, I don't have a problem with bootlegging"
setting up a real church devoted to The Mink, the pyth and the holy swan
One hundred points for
finding the mastertapes for T*******k
The first person to 500 hundred points wins!
Stephen

Put this in your pipes and smoke it true-believers:
The unexpurgiated Robert Christgau review::
"BELLE AND SEBASTIAN: If You're feeling Sinister (The Enclave)
Sly guys, subtler gals. Straight out my stereo, they didn't have enough
oomph to send me to their press kit--they go for dim where corporate pop
favors hot, their lo-fi more "Exile on Main Street" than Sebadoh. So I
assumed they were two or three twee public-school snobs just smart enough
to mock their own privelage, with stray art buddies chipping in. In fact
it appears (although they are coy about it) that they comprise seven
popwise Scots in the same general record-collector tradition as Orange
Juice, Teenage Fanclub, and Bis, none of whom sound like Belle and
Sebastian or each other. And while younger folks debate the intellectual
content of Stuart Musgrove's [sic!] mild-mannered cynicism, for me his
clever affect is there to test the strength of his third-power catchiness.
You don't just recognize these tunes. You don't just hum snatches in
tranquility. You sing along, irresistably, sometimes with verse and
chorus both. Just be glad Musgrove [sic, boy, sic!] is into bemused sex
rather than the glories of E, or attacks on the culture industry.
A MINUS"
*whew!*
told you.

Just wanted to say that I think there has been a bit of an 'atmosphere'
(and much like Mr Russ Abott I love a happy atmosphere but this
atmosphere hasn't been that happy) on the list of late, amidst all the
love and laughter that still abounds here. I can only second what
David/Nick have said and give the hottest of hot love to Paul for all he
does.
And seeing as nobody writes it like they used to, it might as well be
me...KEEP THE FAITH
hope this hasn't been a timewaster (I counted to 10 and thought of
Cliff)

but on doing so, i'd like to point out that very soon our magnetic
poetry may start to suffer under the stress of all these new words,
could someone reccomend a word or ten to remove from the program, i'd be
very grateful. otherwise i'd be forced to free up some space by removing
the words i've just added.

PS: finally placed an FAQ on my site, please, i urge anyone with any
questions to read it. If there is something missing (highly likely)
please let me know what it is and I'll add it.
Oh, and Peter Miller, your gargoyles have been added to the biog :)

If we can have a moment's silence, can i suggest we raise our glasses in
honour of David "Dream" Kitchen, the original Blue Sodastream and founder
of this very list, who is 24 today!! David, you're a bobby dazzler, a

Now who will help me give him the bumps?

OK so Friday night then,
So I'm off the train, and on the tube to Hillheed, pop up to meet Tag at
Andrew's flat and we get ready to pop out, it's a lovely warm night and we
taxi it along to the CCA where we get a meal that none of us paid for -
that's still a mystery. Trying to work out what to do, Tag and Anne sneak
off to the bedsit next to the park and I wait with my friend Kevin till his
girlfriend and her mates turn up, they do at 12, by which point I'm right
royally pissed - which is nice, Kev doesn't want to come to Andrew's club
though, so I go, and meet a load of new friends on the door of the CCA who I
convince to come to the bedsit too, which is cool, cause it means we get a
taxi, so I turn up and try to blag my way in with my 4 year out of date
matric card, which makes it past the bouncers, but not further than the
eagle-eyed student manning the till who I thought was going to get rid of
me, but it turns out he only wants me to pay an extra quid, so I get in, and
it's amazing, loads of people dancing to northern soul, really getting into
it, and it's a cracking feeling seeing loads of people enjoy it so much. The
rest of the night is spent dancing and drinking, usually both at the same
time... what a top night.
Hope that's passed Patrik's stringent requirements for being boring enough,
hopefully yes, well, I'm boring I suppose.... get over it.
Keith.
