Bloody hell!! what an incredibly vivid (and rather disturbing) image.
I had just thought he sounded like somebody from Yes or REO Speedwagon
-almost as repulsive and enough to put me right off.
Hey Keith! - At The Egg last Saturday:
Just what connection with B&S did that bunch of freeloaders have?
After letting them in for free past an enormous queue at your
drunken insistence, I didn't get as much as a thankyou - not a peep!
Acutely aware of lack of B&S content,

Now someone mentioned they'd like to hear some band recommendations. I
have two, one you've probably not heard of and one you probably have
heard. The first is Red House Painters. They are from San Francisco,
play mostly acoustic, very melancholic songs. They sound a lot like
Nick Drake, but I like them much more. The second band I recommend is
the Trash Can Sinatras. They sound like a cross between Aztec Camera
and Smiths. The lyrics are filled with witty double meanings and word
play.
I was in a pub a few days ago and heard a PIL song I hadn't heard in
ages. The chorus goes 'may the road rise with you' and 'anger is an
energy' or something like that. What is the name of that song. Poor
'old' Johnny...I heard Sid Vicisous' version of Sinatras 'My Way' the
other day, rather interesting. The Bluebells are currently in the cd
player, when was the last time you heard that name? What do you all
think of the Wild Swans?

wow...nouvelle vague, dreams, and velvet underground.
I had a dream about B&S a while back. I can't remember the details, but I
do know the lead singer was sitting behind me in the bleachers at an
assymbly in the school gym. Middle school, I think. The subject of the
meeting had something to do with empowering yourself ( you know, those
useless pep talks from speakers who travel around to different schools
trying to make a difference in everyone's life when in fact, everyone is
making fun of them for being such a dork. At that age, you want people to
tell you smoking is cool).
But why middleschool? I haven't mentally visited that area in some time.
Sure, I still go through the whole angst crisis of "I don't like my
clothes" or "these people REALLY aren't my friends" but to have the lead
singer sitting behind me not saying a word through that event is really
strange. I got the idea that he was figuratively "behind me" in what I
did.
Hell, that might scare him if he ever reads these messages. I swear I'm
not going to write him for emotional support or to borrow money!
I want to do a confession though. I was amused by people shamefully
admitting that they had Oasis in their CD collection. I can outdo that. I
still have in my collection (before I became musically cool):
Green Day
Ace of Base
Celine Dion.
I tried to get rid of these at the 2nd hand shop, but nobody would take
them. Thank God they took my Gin Blossoms CD.

Yeah - The Acid House is a great book - my favourite story in it is
"Last Resort On The Adriatic" although my flatmate doesn't agree, and
probably no-one else will either!
I also liked Marabou Stork Nightmares - except I found it really
difficult to read the rape parts.
Some of Ecstasy was good, but overall it wasn't as good as his
previous books.
Um......no B&S content WHATSOEVER - feel free to delete this message

No surprise there.
Besides, I've grown accustomed to (and I think I'd now rather hear some more)
discussions about pretentious garbage and posts which appear to be meant for
someone's personal diary. At least until Belle and Sebastian make their next
move in the music world.

Hi
Belle and Sebastian are one of the best groups to break through last year
(if not the best). Any news on the new single or album, and how about them
coming to Sheffield (for a change)?
Yours sinisterly,
Neil.

There was a bit of talk about Enhanced-CDs and how our heros should go
in for something like that. I quite agree. The last Wu-Tang Clan album
was an enhanced whatchamacallit. It featured a tour of the "Wu -
Mansion" or palace or something where you could meet the various, erm,
Clansmen (as it were) and enjoy their rather delphic utterances.
I reckon the new B&S album should feature something like that - a
virtual tour of the "Seb-Church Hall" (...'Meet Stuart preparing some
Orange Squash in the kitchen') or better still the "Belle-playground".
Our heros could be found on their favourite playground ride. Sarah on
the swings, Isobel and Richard on the see-saw (that's teeter-totter for
our N.Am friends), Stevie on the wibbly-wobbly horse thing. And so on...
Books - Captain Correlli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres is wonderfull.
I laughed, I cried - oh how I cried. On the 7.30 train to Bedford, there
I was in my suit, in the heart of commuter land and I was crying my
heart out for the greatest story of doomed/unrequited love I'd ever read
- a soldier and the man he adores. I read books i like over and over
again but I don't think I could ever read Capt Correlli again and put
myself through the emotional mangle once more. But I'm a richer person
for going through it once - and it's not all sad.

Risso writes....
Hmmm, not much of one as I don't know when he was born or anything, but the
sad news is that legendary eighties Austrian superstar Falco died in a car
crash today...and I thought his death merited a comment or two. I was a bit
of a fan in the eighties when I was but a bairn (OK 14 and old enough to know
better), and have FOUR albums (hands up who didn't know there were that many),
..oh and a few singles and 12"s. So I was sad, sue me.
OK it all seems lame as cheese as now, but I tend to associate all music, good
and bad, with the things that were happening in my life at the time, and
Vienna Calling (the follow up to Rock Me Amadeus, no.1 for years) which got to
no. 10 itself, and which Sam Fox reviewed in Smash Hits, reminds me of a a
balmy summer's night in Amiens in Northern France on a school trip, when I was
ripped off my tits on Stella for the first time and snogged a French lass
called erm, well I forget but anyway that's not important. What I mean is
that that song still brings back wonderful memories and as such at the moment
I wouldn't trade it in for anything.
So this isn't exactly "Candle in the Wind" but well, it's 1 in the morning and
the best I could do under such extreme shock....
Albums I own:
Junge Roemer
Falco 3 (An absolute classic, stuff yer Tigermilks)
Emotional
Wiener Blut
Singles and 12"s
Rock Me Amadeus
Vienna Calling
Jeannie
Emotional
Body Next to Body
Der Kommisar
Oh yes indeed!! Send tapes to.....!!

PS. Does this count as "Doing a Northy?" or is it more of a "Steaming pile of
Begbie?"

Hello people. I got back from France at 11:00 last Friday
night, having had nish sleep the whole week. Looking at Picassos when
you've got a furry tingue is not a pleasant experience, believe you me,
amigos. Don't drink tequila. Anyhoo, I had a fab time dans Paris,
especially at the new Arman exhibition at the Jeu de Paume in the
Jardins Tuileries. Oo-er, I've gone all art-name-dropping suddenly...
Anyway, despite the bacchanalian revels during the week, I got
up on Saturday, went to Music Centre in the morning (aargh! I've
forgotten how to play the flute!), and stayed up to go see John Hegley
in the evening in Cantebury. He was absoloutment fantastique, despite
having forgotten he had a gig that evening and turning up an hour or so
late. He forgot his slides, too, and had to draw on the stage with
chalk.
So, I've just read through a massive load of mail (thank Someone
for the digest version) and am now ready to begin my assault on a
startlingly witty reply to all points of relevance from the aforesaid.
Tindersticks: Cherry Blossoms is a beautiful, beautiful song,
and not understanding what in the name of little baby prawns Ol' Gravel
Voice is going on about doesn't stop me singing it incessantly (an
octave higher than he does) for a while after I've been listening to it.
Three am, six feet down, already up with the lark...WHAT?!?!? Song For
Those Not So Beautiful is gorgeous too. Has anyone else got the
limited-edition Live at the Bloomsbury Theatre album? This is one of
the (very) few lim-ed things I own, as I'm a high-street kinda girl: no
indie-kid shops around Medway. We have our own equivalent of Casuals
who look at me strangely as I wander around Chatham in hippy skirts and
wierd t-shirts, not realising that their horrible puffa jackets and gold
jewellery make them look like Michelin Men on the game.
B&S cover versions: I dunno, I think it'd work quite well with
Tanya Donelly doing the girly bit in Lazy Line Painter Jane, but I'm not
sure who else would fit in for the rest of it. She did that guest bit
on Judy's Staring At The Sun by Catherine Wheel ages ago, but which I
was chuffed to find as one of the b-sides on Delicious a wee while back.
Well, I liked it... Also: whoever said Stephen Duffy should do any B&S
cover - I LOVE YOU! How amazingly right would that be?
I'm now going to thank the marvellous people who have sent me
wonderful tapes of wonderful stuff by wonderful bands in return for
Tigermilk (so I should first thank myself [and my stereo] for
proselytising B&S back catalogue around the globe). Thank you all for
Pavement, Orange Juice, Guided By Voices, Field Mice, Fantastic
Something, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, other really ace stuff... I am now
slightly less ingnorant than I was before, and this can only be a good
thing, I feel. I'm also really chuffed 'cause I got the Beth Orton
album the other day and have been listening to it muchly. I Wish I
Never Saw The Sunshine is just heartbreaking. I'm always getting that
funny achy-sinuses-about-to-cry feeling now when I listen to all this
beautiful music.
Can I join the eec club?
"i thank heaven someone's crazy enough to give me a daisy"
Sorry, can't remember the formatting or even if those are exactly the
right words at the moment, but it's from the end of the one about the
clown on the corner of the street. Anyone like T.S.Eliot?

<<Yes, it was lovely to see such beautifully structured arguments that
in no way made Belle & Sebastian 'fans' look like the satchel-carrying,
scarf-wearing,
bicycle-riding knee-jerk-offs that the 'meeja' (whoever they may be)
will no
doubt condemn us/you/ whoever as...>>
I like my satchel. And my scarf. This is all I have to say on
the matter. Blah blah blah.
En el asunto of B&S videos, didn't anyone else see the couple of
times they showed LLPJ on the Chart Show, and the time they had DOW on?
I did, because I still watch the pile of filth in case something good
comes on (once in a very blue lunar cycle). However, I didn't tape it
because (a) I didn't have a tape handy, (b) because it's really annoying
having things taped off the Chart Show, because of those
faux-video-instruction icon thingies and (c) they never show the whole
video anyway, and I can't stand the stress of shouting at the bastard
programmers all my life. So there.
I think that was about the longest email I've ever written, and I
apologise profusely to anyone I may have offended, alienated, bored etc.
Ho hum.
ByeBye.
Au revoir,
Liz.
