Dear Belle and Sebastian Fans,
This may well have been posted to the list already, but since I'm
on the digest I don't know... just in case here it is, anyone want to join
the bidding for Tigermilk?

Hi everyone!
Acid House was a wonderful collection of short stories - did anyone see the
dramatisation of The Grantham Star Cause on Channel 4 a while back? -
though my favourite would have to be 'The Two Philosophers'. Anyway, The
Marabou Stork Nightmares is a rather surreal read from Welsh's pen which
explores all sorts of themes from unusual perspectives. Good stuff but
different to Trainspotting.
And vaguely with a B&S theme...
Perhaps this is a bit way off, but, can anyone empathise with the
connection I see between the music of B&S and themes of 'unrequited love'
explored in Thomas Hardy novels?
Cheerie-bye,
Mat.

Continuing the dream stories...
During the weekend I had this dream that everybody listened to Belle &
Sebastian and the world was a happy place.
Then I woke up and switched on my radio only to hear bloody O***s.
Oh well, it's good to dream I suppose.

>Oooh, still don't think I'll be able to make it 'cos it is very
expensive for me to come all the way down to london and then head back
same day.......so, um, anyway, lucky you is missing out on me. And other
6th form people and perhaps students too. :(
Dunno 'bout everybody else, but as a student, i know that three weeks
before exam-time, we all start having multiple panic attacks and drink
puke-inducingly large amounts of coffee and cram - so i guess that's, oooh,
99% of this list out.
But, the idea of all 447 of us playing Twister simultaneously on Primrose
Hill with lots and lots of strawberry icecream in the summer is wonderful.
But i think we should remember to stock up on sweeties first: say oooh, 7
kilos of astra belts and a good 11 kilos of mini coca-cola bottles (i love
them, i do). then after having dreamily watched the sun set, i think we
should all march down Parkway and
INVADE the Good Mixer, yeah all 447 of us. Together, we could rewire the
Jukebox so that it's doomed to playing only The State that i am in over
and over again, ransack the bar and then get up and dance to belle and Seb
on the pool table....Whaddya say?
'Cept, you'ld all have to promise not to touch Mark, the Australian bar man
- coz he's mine, alright?
Shit, i hope he's not reading this.
ah well.
BTW, i'm interviewing The Unbelievable Truth on Wednesday for my fanzine
(YIPEE!!) and then maybe Mover later that night (if by that time my friend
who does the fanzine with me hasn't reached the completely, totally and
utterly legless stage). so has any one got any good questions, because
that's gonna be the second day in a week that we've done two in a day - and
i'm runnin' dry. For anyone who doesn't know what the bollox i'm on about
(shame on you) they are Thom Yorke's little bros' band, and as much as i
love Radiohead i have to admit that i'm more into the UT right now, coz
thy're more poet than paranoid. i mean they do sound like Radiohead in
High+ Dry / Stop Whispering mood - ie at their finest (with the possible,
no definite, exception of Black Star)
Sinistereans, my life is officially beautiful: Last night after we did the
Stereophonics and the Bluetones i walked home so damned cold that i could't
fell me fingers, but i didn't care, for i was truly a happy bunny. I love
the Bluetones - they are my babies, (yes, i've decided i'm going to adopt
them.) It's always the nicest surprise meeting them, because like my
friend (who i SWEAR doesn't subscribe to this list) said, "He's such a
cutie."
Kelly (isn't that a girls name?) from the Stereophonics was, i decided, a
very nice young man, fascinatingly long eye-lashes though.
Warm JEts man surprisingly looked very yummy indeed, but apparently he's
going out with Zoe (sickenly happy everyf***ing morning) Ball. Sigh.
Bye bye Sinistereans,
YAz xx

My first posting to Sinister! I've been (sort of) lurking, althought this is mainly due
to the fact that I'm currently living 400 miles away from my computer doing voluntary
work (or slave labour as it currently is) in Dundee. Anyway...
Good to someone recommend Raymond Carver. I've got a mate up in Dundee who really
recommended Carver and I was reading his Where I'm Calling From collection of selected
stories on the train back to London yesterday. Very impressive and very human.
Even better is Tobias Wolff. I got The Stories of Tobias Wolff before Christmas and was
totally hooked. The man creates stories of everyday lives in America which are
perceptive and deeply beautiful. I write stories myself and if I come NEAR to writing
anything as good as Wolff, I'll be a happy man. If anything, his latest collection of
stories, The Night in Question, is even better.
Ink Photographs and Little Ink Movies. I ordered both of these in the week between
Christmas and New Year and haven't got them yet. Can anyone give me some idea of how
long it might take for them to come. I'm desperate to read them given the quality of the
ones I've read and, of course, the wonderful CD booklet stories.
Speaking of waiting, I ordered LLPJ and DOW singles at Virgin over 4 weeks ago and I'm
still waiting for DOW! Still, the glories of You Made Me Forget My Dreams and Photo
Jenny kind of make up for it.
All the best for now,
Jon

On the subject of walkmans:
Once I was walking and listening to radioheads "ok computer", and just as
gorgeous Thom sang the line "you watch your feet for cracks in the
pavement", a person in front of me slipped in a crack in the pavement. It
made me smile.
I'm smiling all the time nowadays because a band at the record company i
work, Poor Rich Ones has been nominated for the counterpart of Brit
awards/Grammy here in Norway!!
I've already started to make a speech, and I have to buy a new frock......:):):)
>What do people think are the worst tunes for getting stuck in your head?
My boyfriend kept yoodling Bee Gees "You win again" all morning.
Not a good idea!!!!

Señor Pantaloons,
I think this is an excellent idea. Of course it doesn't even begin to make
up for the tragic loss of Northy, but it is nevertheless a brave attempt to
help us all cope with the sadness.
Just one special request: Instaed of being "The Monday Poem", can it be "The
Monday Poem About Telly"? Otherwise my brain will explode.
One other thing: As far as I am aware, no one has repoted back about
Trousers' Big Night Out. How did the Poetry Society regulars react to an
indie-schmindie invasion?

This thread has gotten really confusing all of a sudden. All i can add is
that the Company Flow record is called FunCrusherPlus on Rawkus Records. It's
nyc underground hip-hop and it's quite odd but really cool to see it mentioned
in the same paragraph as B&S.
>>Re: Hal Hartley.
If memory serves, didn't Stuart M drop off a tape at his offices when
they visited New York? That was in 'Little Ink Movies' I think. >>
This is true. Three song demo went to Hal's office. Tracks later appeared on
Dog On Wheels (4th Song was the only one not on the demo). Someone should run
down there and go through Hal's closets.

Due to the overwhelmingly aristocratically enthusiastic response to my
suggestion for a "please the Duke" competition, I feel obliged to start side
2 of Duke's tape all over again. I am determined to receive a Lawrence Bald
Patch for my efforts.
Come on kids! Get your questions for Mister Murdoch in! I've already sent in
a hundred and forty-six today and it's only twenty to five! I don't know,
things have certainly gone downhill since Northy sloped off to do his
coursework.
I was hoping to go and see that film about gigantic space insects this
afternoon, but it's a bit late now. Perhaps a typically shambolic visit to
the chatroom would be in order.
