Hello.
Since Leslie Chinea was kind and sweet enough to send me a lovely IYFS poster, and told me to "surprise her" in repaying her, I have decided to make the following offer, in the name of what is right and good and nice:
I'll make tapes of Tigermilk for the first 5 US listies to email me privately who are still in need [whoa. Bad syntax]. If you want the 3 Eps on the other side, I can do that for you, too. I usually put Tigermilk on both sides, because it's all you'll want to hear anyway. All I ask in return is that you send me a blank 90 minute tape.
Who's game?
Love & Dawson's Creek,
Paige

He does - or let's put that correctly did, play for HardBody or HandBony as
the promoters saw it. They were supposed to be playing T in the Park last
year too, but their manager got drunk and pissed up on booze the night
before and forgot to bring their equipment in time... oops.
Hardbody however are now no more - at least not for anyone except Louise
(who's Mick's brother's girlfriend) - who has indeed been signed up by Sony
and who will be releasing the album that they all recorded in New Orleans
last January soon. Mick mainly plays geetar for Hardbody. There's a couple
of singles available... On your Own and Hazel's Hob.
Cheers,
Keith.

I have to get this right. Ok, on my Alternative Nation they showed :
lasy line painter Jane, Teenage fanclub, Mercury Rev, Progigy, Iggy pop
and other things, but no Orange juice( which i had looked forward to
see, given the time you spend on talking about it) and no Dog on
Weels(although i've seen that before, is Stuart M the dog hunting
character?). I dont get it, how can they show different shows all over
Europe?(btw: this was in Iceland). I shall stop my moaning now and just
be happy that i saw LLPJ (LPG for those who now it by that name).
Talking about LLPJ, what a revieling(probably wrong spelling) video,
they played in it, didn't they, I've never seen them. Steve Jackson:
the guy in the begining who was paintinig the road, Chris the one in
the bus shelter, Stuart M the one who got sprayed on, the drummer( dont
remember his name- a common problem with drummers i guess) the one who
was drying the clothes, Isobel reading.... and i dont remember more.
Any objections?
When is the longest day in Britain exacly? , is it the same day as in
Iceland, thats about 24june
Milan Kundera and Gabrel Garcia Marques any day for me - please
olla

Well someone mentioned it....
But it is with some trepidation that I post this, bearing in mind the
response to previous attempts at song-related levity. Anyhow if you
don't want to read crap lyrics to a B&S song please stop now. And
apologies for non-UK types for whom the politics may be a bit parochial.
For Genevieve's benefit I'm working on a Quebecois anthem "The Distinct
Status that I am in"...

As there seem to be many people involved in the music business, I was
looking for some tips.
Although I'm following (kinda) a career in Linguistics I would rather
do research in a media frame. Considering my attempts at becoming a singer
have never really worked out, I was looking at getting involved in music
research. Can anyone help me with ideas on how to get into this??
I prefer Garcia Marquez's 100 years of solitude.
Thanks to anyone who can help,
Claire.

Hmmn,
Yeah, crabby old Marxist that Swells is, I though that Panda boy
Williams gave a pretty fair responce. Sure, the Belles aint Swells
cuppa, but at least he wrote eleoquently and amusingly. He's the sort
of old fool that loves the attention. As for accusations of sour
grapes at the NME I'm not so sure. I felt those letters painted B&S
fans as rather foolish, petty and silly. The reply that Simon
Williams gave made a lot of sense (not to bring up any good/bad gig,
professionalism/ineptness deabte again). Its no conspiracy. One guy
hated the band. The rest of the paper (belatedly) seem to love them,
despite the fact they don't "play the game".
See Jason Pierce's comments in that Awards round up for fair comment
about where the majority of the NME staffers heads are at the moment.
Sad to say, its the best indie-based mainstream mag around, now we've
lost the MAker up its own Smash Hits obsessed arse (at least Pricey
and Taylor liked pop for pops sake, not idiotic irony manifesting
itself wank-led piss-poor writing..).
Oh well. Some people always have to be petty.
Simon

Were the Man from Delmonte not that band from Manc who got their ASSES sued
by all and sundry when their debut album contained rather accurate
information about whom the songs were about?
Listening to the new record by Mark Hollis (formerly of Talk Talk as it says
plastered in some fuckoff big sticker across the front) and it's brilliant.

I've just read the interview with Europopsters Aqua in the NME this week
and I was so filled with admiration that I felt I had to write. One of the
band is quoted as saying:
"I'm really sorry that we made a record that millions of people like, and
that we didn't wear boring clothes and we didn't play guitars and sing
about what boring lives we have !"
Yeaay ! What a top manifesto and a refreshing alternative to the
complaint rock hegemony that clouds the pop horizon these days.
"B&S content ?" I hear the exasperated mutters.
Well, throughout the interview what comes across is an utter disdain for
the empty cliches of rock orthodoxy and an ambivalence to critical
opinion of their work. Does this remind you of anyone ?
B&S and Aqua, kindred spirits, who'da thought it !
Altogether now, "C'mon, Barbie, let's go party ! Ah, ah, ah, yeah !"

>BUT, I need an answer to something: at one point in the article, ol' Jenny
claimed
>that Monica Queen is actually Isobel singing under an assumed name. But I
thought
>I had read on this list that Monica Queen is an entirely different person
from Isobel
>altogether, and that she's in other bands. So if anyone feels like
responding to this
>oft-asked question, ooh, that'd be appreciated.
EH? I don't know who dreamt this one up, but I've saw Monica and Isobel on
stage at the same time, most definitely different people!! Although both
are extremely attractive, my heart belongs to Bel.
> I saw the video for LPG on it just before the Manchester gigs.
>Haven't watched it since, but maybe they play them quite often.
LPG???? Did I type that? I of course ment LLPJ.
