IRC CHAT
Katrina also won't mind me saying that there's now a preliminary
date, finally for the IRC chat with the band - 2pm GMT on Thursday
26th February. DON'T start taking time off work etc. etc. as it
isn't confirmed yet except with Stuart D. Nor are details about how
we're going to run it so it will be broken cellos all roudn
probably.
The chat will be logged so you'll all be able to see it later. Sorry
if the time doesn't suit - it just can't be helped - but I'm hoping
they'll be more in the future if we all enjoy ourselves. If you are
thinking of coming and haven't used IRC yet then TRY IT NOW! You
need to get used to it or else you will be an unpopular bunny on the
night, and it's unlikely you'll get any help in the week before as
it'll be hectic. Pages on chat are on most WWW sites, including
mine, but if you have questions please direct them to David on
d.kitchen(a)virgin.net. He'll make everything alright like he always
does.
NON-IRC NON-CHAT
But for those disenfranchised non-chatters here's an attempt to make
things a bit better - I asked Stuart if the band would be happy to
answer a set of mailing list questions (watch out for Susannah's) and
he said yes. SO - please send ME (NOT the list) any questions you
want to ask and mark them with the subject line: "B&S Question Time".
Closing date, ooo, week today the 11th. Make them interesting
please.
I'll collect them together, remove all the repeated ones about
Tigermilk and shoe sizes, and I reserve the right to restrict the
list to something manageable (maybe 20) in an arbitrary way based on
person attractiveness and how often you call me something nice.
Quite seriously, I will pick at random if we get millions, so don't
give me any stick if you don't get picked as I'm not in the mood.
I'm in the mood for luuuurve.
WHAT ELSE?
Some random stuff. Stuart David tells me that Slow Graffiti, which I
can never spell is appearing in a soundtrack to the file "The Acid
House". Great song - should be a single. Said humbly and not
looking for a fight cos I'll hide behind Laurel if you try it.
Sorry to anyone who's mailing me and isn't getting replies again. I
don't chuck your mail out, I promise, it just gets filed. One day
you'll get an answer.
Finally, thanks to all of you who have answered the clarion call and
are posting stuff of some CONTENT to the list. I was getting a bit
fed up with it all and now I'm bouncing again.

What's wrong with the list anyway, I mean, there are upper of 400 people on
it, it can't be that bloody bad can it. I used to subscribe to the
Manchester music list back in 1991 and it was shite - all you'd get was
lists of DJ promos sent in every day by DJ's and the odd guy going "Have you
heard the new Impossibles single" (ha ha - joke). It was a waste of time,
most of the stuff on this list is worth reading... I certainly enjoy it.
Hands up if you don't.

Monica Queen is as I remember, a very real person. I've seen her at a B+S
concert, I saw her at a Suede concert in Glasgow in 1992, I saw her when we
put on her not very good band on at the student union a few years ago. She
was in a band called "Thrum" which rhymes with "Bum" and she's currently -
so I believe, in a band called "Monica" who're named after Monica Selez...
or Monica Coughlan or something... perhaps.
Cheers,
Keith.

I taped the 'Scottish' segment (15mins of 2hr show)
but wasn't organised enough to catch Orange Juice's "Blue Boy" - which
happens to be my fave OJ song - so I was mildly disappointed.
Impressed by Dog on Wheels, although I had seen it once before

1. What's all this stuff about "Cock Fun" on some toilet walls - I
thought it
was a well-known (male) toilet graffiti. Written of course by
oh-so-ironic,
very probably homophobic, saddoes.
2. The idea of having two lists is just daft innit? It's already been
pointed
out that a news-based list would probably peter out due to the unprolific
nature of our heroes. Anyway I like the topsy-turvy rollercoaster that the
current list can be.
3. I've seen a couple of mentions of Placebo over the last couple of days
- would you mind not doing it please.

I bet there are more people on this list who dream about Belle & Sebastian,
than anywhere else in the world....hum. Last night I drempt that Orange
Juice played where I worked and only did two songs, and those songs were
Belle & Sebastian songs AND Monica Queen was singing and not Edwyn! Then I
realized that Stuart Murdoch was the sound guy and I went up to him and
squeezed him and said "you're still here?" And he sneered at me and said
"you must have me mistaken for someone else who wears Staypressed." What
would Freud say? I'm suprised that no one was naked, considering what i've
been reading before bed....but hey....with long distance relationships, a
girl's got to keep amused somehow...right? I'm glad Stuart isn't so snippy
in person.*phew*

Dear People,
Yes! Home from school again...cough cough..
but I HAVE to get out soon...saturday..yes saturday..there's a Viennese Ball
at the Art gallery (of course tickets are like 200 dollars each and they are
for the counts and countesses i suppose..) but just imagine all the lovely
gowns and stuff..I wonder if they get to wear masques? i have to take
nightscapes for my photographie class...maybe the city will be good to me....
I have a book called Zolars which deciphers dreams..but I don't know how
true it is...it doesn't really make sense..zolar lie!....speaking of..I had
such a good..energetic.. dream last night, now it probably doesn't make sense
now...but anyways...I snuck into the boys (!) washroom and on the wall in
red pencil I wrote 'jim morrison lives in me' or something then casually
walked out...except this real bitchy teacher at my school saw me...saw the
message in red..and me holding the red crayon and took after me..so I ran to
lose her,DOWN STAIRS..IN stillettos...I could feel the difficulty of
it!..anyways..I lost her in the locker bay except suddenly I saw her..she
hadn't seen me yet..I was pushing my way to get out but these people
wouldn't let me I'm like 'come on,this is serious!' but they did not believe
me so the teacher caught me and yelled at me and was so evil..but I had my
moment of glory I swore at her while she tried to make me go with her and
then she ripped off my jacket..and yet i stil woke up feeling i'd won!
poetry n' stuff:I like Thomas...I love W.B Yeats...Shelley...
I suppose I should really read more poetry..but this year I've got my
futuristic fix... Brave New World and 1984...BNW was allright for me..it
didn't really affect me...but once the Thought Police caught winston I
couldn't put 1984 down...i mean with Huxley he at least created an island
the 'different' people could go to..but Orwell is just more brutal...not
even allowed to die hating the party...i feel fustration when i read books
like that...you're willing the characters on..but they just keep falling and
falling....
Sinister people, tell me some good books I should read!

I picture Monica with these go-go boots...mod skirt...eyelined eyes/pale lip
thing going on..i don't know what nancy sinatra looks like..but something
like that?At first I didn't like Monica's voice...but now..I really do..it
doesn't have that softness of isobel, but it's appealing...

I am sorry to say...but he never existed dear...actually,he probably
did....seriously..I don't know,but I've never heard of him..my mom tells me
she knows Belle and Sebastian (the cartoon).and how him and the big giant
dog would go to pyramids or something...maybe I used to watch the
show..because I have no idea why when I first heard of B&S I thought it was
Christain singing solo boy who had an anonymous friend help him out under
the disguise of that dog on Dog On Wheels....
Do you remember 'Today's Special'? I liked that!

Yes....I do! It stops me from doing other work...you know how most people
say,oh if you put on music you'll get your homework done like that? Well not
true! When it's such a good song, you have to jump up and sing into your
hairbrush (well I do...I don't have a mic)I even have a tambourine but i
save those moments for when i feel like brett anderson!Sometimes I wish
people could hear what I'm listening to and singalong...like
oh...say..ummm..record store boy? WHy won't he play B&S ! THen I could sing
along and show him oh great master, how you taught me! BUT..whenever I'm in
there he has this thing with Blur's Great Escape...i know all the words to
that album too...but it's just..not...the...same!
poor poor clinton, you know...Jean Chretien never get trouble like that,he
won't even give anybody a hug..he tries to choke instead...
love no poison,
Genevieve :)
p.s
I know nothing about the Smiths and I got the 1000 dollar question about
them on Jeopardy! (well it's not hard...as soon as cutie Alex mentioned
morrissey)
I'm getting a Smiths album,(cute record boy has them cheap) in trade for IN
It For The Money...so should it be Meat Is Murder or The Queen Is Dead...

I've just read several days worth of digests, as I've been busy writing
essays about things like Roberto Rossellini and slave narratives. Some
lovely posts from everyone which have inspired me to say something
irrelevant.
Firstly, whoever suggested Throwing Muses (RIP) covering 'Lazy Line
Painter Jane' deserves a medal. Especially if it was mid 80s era Muses,
kristin Hersh wailing away, and we could draft in their eventual
keyboard player to add a swamp meets Phil Spector style wall of sound.
Personally i'd like to hear David Bowie cover B&S, but the question
isn't so much which B&S song, more which David Bowie. I expect
Genevieve's vote would be for Labyrinth-style (which I dig too...the
soundtrack tape seems to be of much amusement to all my friends, why?)
but after watching The Man Who Fell To Earth last night I guess I'd
currently plump for Low-era Bowie. If only for the wonderful hair:
deeply dyed orange with blonde bits at the front.
Tag's insistence we get off our arses and Sarah's Tigermilk listening
have given me ideas for what to do when I get my bloody finals over and
done with. Everybody: create!
The summer picnics are a beautiful idea, and this was made weirdly
circular when it was revealed Going Underground was the start of all
that. I still carry a Going Underground flyer in my wallet. Have done
for years. God knows why, I'm only 22 so I never got a chance to go the
club (hang on, was about to say it was around years ago, but Katrina
said only 2??!!Thought I'd had this flyer for donkeys)
I think I liked the way it had Bill Murray on it, could
be passed off as London transport id and fitted nicely with my credit
card sized stuff. Much nicer to look at that than a bank card.
And French New Wave is lovely, 400 Blows is such an endearing movie.
(Tag, if you want to write a 3000 word essay for me on 400 Blows, or A
Bout de Souffle, or any French new wave at all then you could well help
me cheat my way into a good degree. Or maybe I should just carry on as
planned and write about Wenders instead.)
Oh, and on the subject of movies, someone said
they'd never heard of Hal Hartley? He is probably my favourite director
working today, try to see any of his films. His dialogue would be
greatly appreciated by fans of B&S lyrics. His films are always
very funny, poignant, moving and insightful.
Oh, and if anyone is ever in Brighton, don't believe flyers for the
Underground which claim they'll be playing B&S. I think certain clubs
are namechecking the band without ever playing them, because they know
they're popular among a distinguished crowd and their name will make the
club look trendy and diverse.
I've gone on way too long haven't I.....

Do I have to! It's funny the number of people come on to the list talking
about being computer-illiterate, whereas I find myself in the opposite camp
(perhaps this is a way of describing people on the list being in 2 different
camps), or being very computer-literate, but being hardly able to read!
I'll read a book as long as it's got plenty of pictures in it.

Sometimes when I see people with personal stereos it doesn't appear like
they are actually listening to music they enjoy. I was just walking through
