Incidentally, having seen the Dog on Wheels video in full for the first time last night, does this not rather clear up the "Who sprayed the grafitti" thread? Nice collection of videos on MTV last night though, Orange Juice one was good, shot entirely on Gt.Western Road - never seen that one before. Sinister: stitched up like a kipper

Nobody's seen Q or mentioned it yet so I'll get my special pleading in first. (There is a little 'vox pop' of comments post-Manchester Sunday in the listings bit of this month's Q magazine). It includes a picture of me. I look dreadful and drunk, which is fair, because I am generally both. It is accompanied by some comments attributed to me. I did say 'the best venues and the best songs' (or words to that effect). However, I did not say 'the Pinteresque pauses merely serve to heighten a sense of expectation'. Did I, Duke? Neither would I. Honest. I have nothing against the pauses. I just dread to think that any one of you could think I might use the word 'Pinteresque'. /me shudders. The vox pop was conducted by a friend (ex?...) of mine by the name of Morris, who has stitched me up like a kipper. Public information broadcast ends here. You know, when I first started listening to that song I used to imagine myself inside the box! It's because I've had a few girlfriends who lived in different cities than me. And sometimes we wouldn't see each other for several months. Meanwhile, I'd dream about every little detail of the time when we'd meet again. The problem is that it has been my fate/doom/karma to love girls way more than they usually love me, so I ended up with this fear of being forgotten while we're apart. The verses "Baby if you lose your love / Don't take me by surprise" give me the same melancholic feeling I get when I listen to most B&S songs. And it reminds me of a night me and my girlfriend took ecstasy and walked around on the streets of Sao Paulo, hugging and holding hands. When I felt the cool breeze agains our bodies all I could think of was: "Cool waves run over me Cool water running free Lay your sweet hand on me 'Cause I love you Love you Love you ." Hey list I thought you'd like a review of Tigermilk from a first time listener (thanx going out to Ben at Brookes) 9/10 Random Tigermilk thoughts: Is the "State I am In" different to the EP version. It is groovier and definitely better IMO. Expectations has possibly the greatest lyrics ever in the world. You're just a baby is such a cool song. Electronic Renaissance is OK but a bit tuneless. I could be dreaming is good. We Rule the School is just such a fantsastic song. I love it. For me though, the highlight of the album has to be I don't love Anyone. The chord changes in this are Beatles esque melodic. Nothing touches this song. I do know why they're not broadcasting those US sessions though. They sound like a bootleg performance! Sinister: My new career

A few days ago someone mentioned that at the beginning of "Expectations" there is a noise that sounds mysteriously like a zipper. Well, I had always thought that that noise was, to be polite, a blemish in the vinyl. Over the weekend I listened to that sound over and over, and it does sound much like a zipper. I found my wooly sweater with a zipper and practiced that solo by zipping and unzipping my sweater for hours on end. I am thinking of recording some demos of my new found talent--Matthew the zipper musician. Today at work I thought that maybe I should travel to Glasgow and receive Stuart M.'s blessing for my new musical career. Of course last week I thought I should go to Paris and play Orange Juice covers on the street corners. At this rate of decline, next week I will be probably playing a rock, or something else less-musical. Which is what I've been doing all afternoon. I've also listened to the entire Rolling Stones single collection, for which I think I deserve a medal, and Astral Weeks by Van Morrison, which is kind of Belle and Sebastian-ish sounding, only with more of an epic sweep. I enjoyed it very much and can't for the life of me understand why I hardly ever listen to it. January is over, February is here, and with it a brand new sense of fun and adventure. Am I right, or am I wrong? In short, in the words of the late, great Marvin Gaye, "Let's Get It On". I haven't had the pleasure of actually physically meeting anyone off the list yet, but I've gained lots of cyber chums, received tapes, books and CDs from fellow listees, and have inflicted my own appalling musical tastes on a few people. As if that wasn't enough, somewhere between Edinburgh and Renteria, a fat lardy-arsed post office employee is no doubt enjoying a few pounding slabs of high octane progressive rock. So I think the list is well worthwhile, even if we all get a bit ratty and shirty and generally tempramental from time to time. Let us all give praise to Honey, winner of the Tweenet award for best supporting e-mail list 1997. If he wins it three years on the trot he gets to keep Andy Dean forever, so come on now, all together, let's have a nice warm hand on Paul's entrance.
