I've had about three hours and a half hours sleep and i really shouldn't be
awake right now, so forgive me these ramblings....
Firstly, who was it talking about Idlewild? I missed them at the Garage
last night because SOMEONE (a big mean bouncer) had the genius-like idea
of making all the people on the guest list queue for over an hour and
letting eveyone else with tickets straight through. (Does anyone know if
they were any good?)
"Bollox, " me thought after only catching the last two minutes of their
set.
but all was not lost, Glitterbox were there to save my night - how danmed
goood are they? they completely surpassed the headliners, Midget, the
Geen-Day-esque rockers, who were alright. They best thing they did was a
cover version of "Daydream Believer" ( aahh, sigh) which started off really
quiet and then proceeded to burst your right ear-drum. But, me and my
friends decided that they'ld get even better, just as soon as they hit
puberty...
the crowd was just mental - i mean one of the best/worst mosh pits (delete
as applicable) i've ever seen in me life. i love watching the
crowd-surfers' little antics, as almost a subplot to the main action
on-stage. There was this one kid who after many foiled attempts to outwit
these two big, mean bouncers, finally made it on to the stage: and for one
proud moment of magnificence, stood victorious in front of the drum kit,
surveying this swirming mass of sweaty bodies he'd just conquered and then
gave this triumphant little shake of the fist.
he glanced over his shoulder, saw the big bastard bouncer coming towards
him, and with split second thinking, cheekily sky-dived back into the crowd
before they could get to him.
They were well pissed off.
And here's another little personal anecdote which, with my usual skill for
these things, has bugger all relevance.
It's especially for you, Genevieve, just to make you squeal in jealousy,
concernant Monsieur Crispine 'unt:
One of my mad friends bumped into him at Chelmsford 96 and since the
Longpigs happened to be her favourite band of all time, talked to him for a
bit. After she said something, he looked down at her, took her hands, and
then kissed them both...
one, two, three, aaaah....
aah! what it is to be a young, mad, beautiful thing.
I mean, he acts so damn sarcky, but y'know, if you could just pierce that,
he is just a great big ole romantic teddy-bear.
You jealous now Genevieve?
Love+hugs,
Yaz xx
p.s.
david, what you said was really cool.
"Now we know where were going
We can lay back and enjoy the ride....
Drowning our senses...(no, i'm not trying to be poetic, i've just
forgotten the words)

I really like them. In "Nothing ever happens" there's a beautiful version of
"Bizarre Love Triangle", a fact that allows me to mention another band who
covered the song and that I think should be familiar to every BandS oriented
ear. I'm talking of Devine & Statton, one of the first names that came to my
mind after listening to BandS.
Is it me, or they (and their former band Young Marble Giants) were/are
inspirational for many bands?

Mine too, even though my Alan McGee's favourites were the Biff Bang Pow.

Enough is enough,
I'm listening to McCarthy today, I'd forgotten how good they were ...
I feel inspired. I like the idea of people getting inspired by Belle
and Sebastian, to write and move and do stuff instead of sitting back
and digesting, expecting to be entertained, just saying 'oh, aren't
they good' or 'this is pop!' isn't even good enough. This could be
beautiful - we've got a whole load of people from around the world and
it's a cause for celebration and doing something a bit more creative -
and instead it's going stale.
I know I'm rambling - I'm coming out of a period of being restless and
now I feel like shaking someone awake. Let me know what you think,
huh? Hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about,
Love Tag xx

My favourite Tindersticks song is their Nancy and Lee tribute 'A
marriage made in heaven', although it sounds more like Nick Cave and
Clare Grogan than N&L. I wonder what happened to the Isabella
Rosselini version. Don't all write at once.
I heard it on the radio not long ago. I am ashamed to say I switched it off
before it had finished. Not because I didn't like it, but because I had
successfully completed my ablutions and it was time to leave the bathroom.
But I love a good duet,
being the big soppy pussycat that I am ... big favourites are 'Some
velvet morning' and 'Je t'aime'.
My vote goes to "Tippy Toes" and "Bonnie and Clyde" respectively.
I hope everyone else will make it their February resolution to take a
leaf out of Megan's book and make it their personal mission to amuse,
entertain and excite in the future. Because if I read another
dull-witted post repeating tedious facts that another 50 listees have
also posted, I will kill, or at least maim.
Repeats of tedious facts are inevitable, and for most people, or at least
some people, they are not repeats. But I would like to add my voice to
Robert's plea for more amusing, entertaining and exciting posts in the
future. Or at least a load of shite.

Another one I'd forgotten is Isaac Hayes, who often talks about "ladies" or
whatever for quite a while, before bursting into song. Similar in effect to
"I Knew These People" on the "Paris, Texas" soundtrack LP. I like Richard
Harris too. Lest we forget, Hawkwind also indulge in a spot of spoken word
nonsense from time to time, including the lyric to top even Arab Strap's
"then she wanked me off": "If you are making love it is imperative to bring
all bodies to orgasm simulataneously." Not particularly revolting until you
see pictures of Hawkwind and imagine them...well, bringing their bodies to
orgasm simultaneously. In space. I'm thinking of using that Arab Strap lyric
at the bottom of all my messages.

You should have asked Waaaaaaaaah! Records, but you probably couldn't have
bettered the amazing fake live version by the BMX Bandits featuring
Catherine ("And Norman [Blake] on guitar ... come on ... wooooohooohooo ...
hmmm, that's good !") ... do you have the _Islands in the stream_ split

Has anyone seen the new Select (it came out yesterday).
In the relics section, there are all retro keyboards and things - there is a
stylophone like sarah plays in 'Mayfly' and a melodica like Isobel plays in
'Tigermilk (?)'
Sadly, there is no mention of the blow up keyboard thing that Sarah plays in
'Lazy Line Painter Jane'.

On the subject of songs with talking over, would Murray Lachlan Young count?
I think he is well funny, but I could imagine some people could hate him.
Shall I change my middle name to Sebastian Tjinder? That would be fun.

first off, thanks for the suggestion of listening to nick drake. my friend
loaned me his album, and i really, truly deeply fell in love. and of
course, though the music isn't the same, "lazy line painter jane" seems to
bear some sort of reference to "hazy jane". also, _don't_look_back, the
documentary about bob dylan is showing at the film forum in new york. is
it worth seeing for someone who isn't terribly interested in him as a
singer?
um, i have had belle and sebastian dreams. i have a theory that those of
us who really pay attention to the list, especially those who frequent the
chatroom (which you should all do by the way) think of the band, almost by
default, so often during the day, that it invades our dreams at night. one
dream had me getting a belle and sebastian calender as a promo item, each
band member was featured a different month (this was before i'd even seen
pictures of the band memebers, so you can imagine the accuracy). another
was about searching for tigermilk, and finally finding it in a store for an
exhorbitant price. i can't remember whether i bought it, it was just about
the choice. sad that the quest for tigermilk is invading my dreams now.
um, i don't know if i should be writing at night. i try to make my posts
somewhat pertinent, but i'd like to encourage all of you who only want b&s
info to delete my posts in the future, cause i plan on going for the silly
and entirely irrelevant info in the future. oh, to dream the impossible
dream.
