Their set consisted of one fat Scottish bloke sitting on a stool and
SAYING crap lyrics and then a pointless, non melodic crappy chorus of
plain old guitars

Ultrasound looking absolutely fucking brilliant though. What a song
they placed!! I think I will see them at the Conway Hall in London
now. I was gonna see Cornershop but naahhhh!

Just thought i'd let you all know, that there is a special Scottish
edition of Alternative Nation next Tuesday 3rd Feb - (MTV, 11pm - 1am).
They will be the first tv show to air the video for Jeepster's new
signing snow patrol debut single "little hide", and will follow it with
B&S's "Dog On Wheels" (unless Colin changes his mind and plays oneof the
other two!)
You heard it here first ... set those videos now!
There'll also be Pastels & Orange Juice clips too, and maybe even some
Arab Strap (well, if they made a video anyway!)

A big thank you and a kiss on the elbow to Leslie Chinea who generously
mailed me one of those cool double-sided B&S posters. Now the big question
is what side to display -- the IYFS cover or the cool ad for gigs in
Edinburgh and Glasgow? I feel lucky, oh so lucky .. (sung in my head to
the tune of West SIde Story's "I feel pretty".) Hey, someone mentioned
musicals, how about that for a B&S remake? Ooh, or the Sound of Music!
B&S frolicking through the hills .. the religious aspects .. the puppet
show .. the fact that Isobel looks a bit like Julie Andrews to me.
Genevieve, make sure to check your snail mail often, as I'm sure half the
guys on this list have squished themselves into boxes with air-holes and
mailed themselves off to you, and they are probably eager to get out and
stretch. (Hey, maybe that's why the list has been slow lately: too many
people trapped in boxes!) I think there should be a French-Canadian
remake of the great (but short-lived) US TV show "My So-Called Life." You
would be the perfect Angela (Claire Danes) and your record store crush boy
sounds just right for the part of gorgeous-but-aloof Jordan. Instead of
sneaking out to go to a Buffalo Tom concert, you'd be going to see B&S,
bien sur!
HoneyPaul, how's the baby photo project going? I've had a look at the
People page on your site and I must say, you all are cute but rather
mature-looking babies! And Honey, don't you ever display in color? ;-)
So MTV's Real World is filming here in Seattle now, kind of strange. Last
night I almost went out for a drink to this bar a few blocks from my
apartment but decided against it. I find out this morning that the Real
World cast and crew showed up there and sort of took over the place. Hmm,
close call. Well, as long as they don't try to perpetuate some dumb grunge
stereotype, ugh.
Oooh.. nice mellow song on the radio now, what is this .. "It's just
another lovely day" by Ben Harper. Weird, I could swear he was saying
another "lonely" day. I like that better.
Hmm, what else .. Thanks to SDM (way too many boys with his first name
connected to this list!) for more great tapes in the past month, including
UK radio sessions and a backup copy of TM to ease my fears of ruining mine
some day (gasp!)

I am a bit surprised how many posting I do not receive when no one is
discussing Air or Edinburgh clubs, or for that matter, lemurs--I have not
heard a thing about those little primates on this list in months. So here is
a quote to discuss, borrowed from Puncture magazine's article on B&S (the
editors thought it was important because it is in bold type):
"For many, idolizing Belle and Sebastian is an offensive move--a way to say
that traditional bands are still worthy of debate and attention, and that
their traditionally structured songs and sense of narrative are still relevant
at a time when these very notions are being messed with by electronic music."
As a side note, that was written by Elisabeth Vincentelli. You may or may not
remember her as the reviewer of _IFYS_ in Rolling Stone.
Personally I can not say that I agree with that statement; I have never
considered my adoration of B&S a vote for guitar bands, as Ms. V seems to be
attempting to divide music listeners into two camps. Are we really clinging
to the last vestiges of personal folk whilst the radio soundscape is being
fractured into anonymous pounding dance rhythms? Or am I making this too
simple an argument?

I ordered my poster on Monday and got it on Wednesday so the people
at VinylTap are pretty quick.
Poster is brill and hanging up as the pride of my room but it does
come folded and not in a proper poster sender so it has crease marks
