And I honestly don't think Amanda, who I don't know, meant to be elitist at all - I'm sure she's as fluffy as the rest of us. I took it as a little joke, and I'm sure that was the meaning. Things look harsh in courier font sometimes. What looks large from a distance, close up ain't really that big. So let's not dwell on it.
Honey's not wrong about the Courier thing. It can be a terribly fierce font and repeated exposure has even been known to cause piles. However, do not despair of non-proportionality altogether. If your email package lets you change fonts, then I recommend you download Andale Mono (formerly known as monotype.com) from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts). This way even the most dreadful rubbish looks beautiful. Why, only last week I was looking at some particularly noxious neo-nazi propaganda yet found myself filled with an enormous sense of inner peace. All because of Andale Mono. Enough of this Chris Leonard eulogising. I was there and he was rubbish. My cat's called Mittens.
