Here's a thing. My friend Jo has just lent me this book by Toby Litt called 'Beatniks' This sounds like a good book. Is it?
It is, yeah, fantastic! Essential reading for all Kerouac fans. Sort of takes the piss out of the On The Road Myth, but in a nice way. Plenty of gritty and realistic shagging as well.
as opposed to... smooth and imaginary shagging presumably? anyway, realism is the externalisation of internalised fantasy, and my realistic is far from gritty. anything that takes the piss out of the keruoac myth is cool by me though... you have to consume his literature in a bubble of myopia, and that's of course the whole fun of it. a tragic story of misplaced trust and self-hatered. book of dreams is the best, yessum. also 'safe in heaven dead' is good for a giggle. "Once God moves the hand, and you go back and revise, it's a sin! My thought doesn't have to be improved - because i got it from Heaven!" hee hee. keep a faith, the duke -- Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ Tangents On-Paper: PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@mail.zynet.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
