hi everyone, in giving friday night's poetry cafe social scoop, I think our roving reporters may have neglected to mention the end of chris' absolutely ace set, when timothy e. hopkins ("e" for emmylou, not everyone knows that) joined mr. leonard for a knee-buckling rendition of streets of baltimore, with beauteous harmonies and all. yowza. that was just before steady mike o. jones ("o" for oh-go-ahead-twist-my-arm-I'll-sing-it-too) called out a request for wichita lineman, then as if by magic was suddenly up there crooning with chris and timmylou. great, great stuff. I remember tim and mike both saying they'd be extremely pleased if I mentioned it. or was that displeased? oh I do tend to forget the smaller details when I'm a bit schwacked on pricey poetry cafe beer. lesley jo, you should really get your hands on as much free design stuff as you can (roundabout mail order in dc carries both siesta releases on cd or double ten-inch vinyl, mmm). they have a catalog of the wackest covers ever, their originals are always a bit bizarre in the best of ways, they sing about ouija boards, friendly men, jesus and bubblegum with plenty of gusto, and they have that spine-tingling family members singing together thing going for them, just like the everly brothers did. just like nelson didn't. say what you want about that nick drake documentary, but it was well worth it to me to hear that old recording of nick's mom singing, she sounded just like a female nick drake. spooky. I wonder if they ever sang together standing around in the kitchen cooking dinner, passing the time. for someone who rarely posts but was inspired by the great sinister comeback to do so, I've rambled on quite long enough. I'm raising a glass to honey even as I type this for all the work involved, it's good to be lurking among friends again! pam +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
