Talking about songs that sound like Felt! Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner, that song IS Felt. There should be such things as copyrights of bands' sounds! It's still a rather pleasant sounding song. Stuey's high notes make it all worthwhile.
Hm, I think if you'd heard the version with the twangy guitar throughout the song instead of the organ you would think otherwise. Personally I've always thought it sounded like the Smiths, and absolutely nothing like Felt. Then again, the versions are different.
First off... I don't like Rhoda!! [brushes off tomato slop from my sweater] It's just not good, and I can't understand why everyone who's heard it thinks it's the most perfect, fantastic song around. Tell me, please! It's nice, that's the most I can say for it.
I think that Erin (anyone seen her? I want to know if she got my tape...) was the only one who ever thought the song was all that wonderful. I think it is, as you say, nice but nothing amazing. Then again, you must of course understand that music is not good or bad based on more or less votes. I don't like it when bands don't release songs, though, on principle. It's certainly not embarrassing, nor is it any more pish than any other song they've written, especially Modern Rock Lasts-too-long, er, Song.
On the other hand, those three wonderful, wonderful songs. Pocketbook Angel, Hurley's Having Dreams, and London Has Let Me Down Again.. Oooooh they are simply extraordinary and keyboard-ilicious. No songs have ever made me smile so widely and laugh because there's nothing left to do. Especially the part that goes.. "Hurley dreamed of the time when he was a horse in Czechoslavakia..". My dad's Czech, but he doesn't like Belle and Sebastian. So, my question is, for all you lucky bunnies who've heard these fantastic songs, why are they rated so low on the voting chart? Oh there I go, my obsession with the voting chart has leaked out once again! I think I can safely say that I am the only one in the world who has memorized my password to vote.. But really though, why aren't they number 1??
Well, I think we covered this earlier... but I do happen to like those songs a lot more than the average joe, or so it seems, especially "Pocketbook Angel." Though, technically these are not indeed unreleased B&S songs, are they? As I understand it, they're demos from Stuart M himself before the formation of the band. There is certainly a 4-track one-man-band quality to them, but I for one find it charming. The double-tracked vocals, for example, instead of Stevie or Isobel singing backup. Not that I don't prefer Stevie or Isobel, just that it's interesting for a change. I actually wrote an ink polaroid last night without the intention of sending it to the list. I just wrote it for myself, and kept it. It was really quite pleasant to have done so. I suppose the idea of doing a diary never really appealed to me. The whole "Dear Diary, Let me tell you, Kevin is a snot, and I have the biggest crush on Bobby Wilhelms!" aspect of it. But somehow capturing writings like the light captured on film appeals to me so much more. It's as if, I don't really care so much of my thoughts on a given day, but to preserve a moment in time is something I am attracted to. Now I suppose I need an "Ink Photo Album." Whatever happened to that person who was going to do an Ink Polaroid page with all the ones ever posted on the list? Oh yes, and the chap who was writing the ink polaroid about his smoking habit. Erm, it wasn't bad or anything, but it wasn't really an ink polaroid, you know? Like an ink polaroid is a description of a real or imagined photograph, yes? And yours was just a description of something that happened to you. Not that it's invalid or anything, it's just not an ink polaroid. I was thinking today. I read some list mail while waiting on a professor to get back from lunch, and I was thinking how I'm much happier with the list right now than I was, say, 3 weeks ago. What happened? Anyway, I think someone should tell Keith and Beth to come back, unless some drastic changes occur... /"\_/"\_/"\ Mick McMick/Sandcastle Records <<->> bp224996@ohiou.edu \ / Sandcastle Records Homepage: ICQ#5056758 | | http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Amphitheatre/4972/ | | "I am always wishing to make people | | in the world happy with my smiles." | | -Mr. Friendly +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
