Hello, Wow, how fitting that by no intention of my own the song just started. Anyway, I would have jumped to the "rescue" of Electronic Renaissance the second it was maligned, but that would have been two posts in one day... but I really had no clue that so many people like it, which is outstanding. My favorite track on Tigermilk, one of my all-time faves too... Ben said something about it sounding like Procession by New Order. As pleased as I was to see someone other than myself mentioning New Order, I'm not sure if the song reminds me specifically of Procession the other songs from around the same time. In fact, I am not entirely certain that Gillian Gilbert (er, the keyboard player) was in the band at that point. I am certain she wasn't involved in the very first single, and Procession was the second single, preceeding the excellent Movement. It's also quite possible that Procession & its b-side are songs that were written as Joy Division but not recorded until they became New Order, as some of the early songs were. Even if she was in the band, at that point in time their songs to me sound less dance and more brooding, dark-sounding, and oddly jangly at times (see: Dreams Never End) which Electronic Renaissance is not. Furthermore, there are like 3 synth parts on Electronic Renaissance! Which is awesome, but I don't think even New Order did that, at least not until their later days, if at all. If you listen carefully to the new remastered version of Electronic Renaissance you can hear a tinkly synth at certain intervals. Anyway, I guess there is a bit of New Order in the song, but I'd say more of a Technique-era sound. Movement and Power, Corruption & Lies are more guitar-based than Electronic Renaissance. Er, yes, that was probably more than any of you wanted to know about New Order, but I'm at work and bored, so try to be understanding. Les Belles ought to do more synthy songs in the vein of Electronic Renaissance and Sleep the Clock Around. And someone should do a B&S night at a club here in New York. What I don't understand is how there have been so many over UK-way but not a single one here... Oh yes, and The Blair Witch Project is the scariest movie ever. I'm not kidding! I think I've returned to the state of being scared of the dark. Has anyone got a nightlight I can borrow for a few weeks? Well, I'll get by, but if anyone suggests a Sinister camping trip in Maryland you can count me out.
