Sinisterines For once (and hopefully this will be the final time) this posting is not as light-hearted and frothy as most of my previous postings. As I am writing to tell of how my trust has been betrayedÂ… by a fellow Sinisterine no less, Philippe Garnier. Yes 'our' very own witty Frenchman with whom I was supposed to conduct a trade with in October last year. Only, that I actually sent MY STUFF (about two tapes worth) to him and never got anything in return. And it's been, count it, about six months folks. I know I know (and I'm addressing this to you Philippe too) that he had to go leave France for America for work and all that but I don't think that gives anyone the right to ignore someone else like that. I mean we all have other priorities other than music, but taping three C90's worth of music is not going to take up too much of anyone's time. I don't know if I should be writing this sort of stuff to the list, but I just don't know who else to turn to. I love being on this list a lot, and implicitly trust the people on it. When I went to London, so many fantastic, beautiful people pitched in, telling me the best places to shop and offering to meet me and all that. So I presumed that everyone on this list would be like that. And at the beginning, Philippe seemed like that too. When I first joined the list, I remember that Philippe was the one who so generously taped the Black Sessions and distributed it to a person in each continent so that they could dub for other listees in that particular continent. Which I thought was a particularly nice thing to do. So I really don't know what to make of him and the situation now. In the past few months I have written more than six emails to him, all unanswered, and yet he still finds time to write to the list. So to me it seems like he is ignoring me. Now, I will be forever deprived of a copy of the B&S Black Sessions (yes this was around the time of all the talk of their Black Sessions, that's how long ago it all was), as well as the Tindersticks, Divine Comedy and Nick Cave black sessions too. Oh woe is me! I missed out on so many trades, in the mistaken and misguided belief that Philippe would honour our agreement. My first instinct is always to be kind and generous and give people the benefit of the doubt but there is always a limit. I have conducted so many successful trades already so I had no reason to not trust Philippe. Philippe, if you're out there, I still believe in the goodness of mankind and in particular, of this special list full of very special people.
