Don't know if anyone replied to whomever mentioned the Young Marble Giants. Anyway, this is all from memory, in the magazine Q a couple of years ago there was an article on Peter Buck and his massive vinyl collection. He highlighted 5 or 6 of his faves and one was the YMG Colossal Youth album. He said something to the effect that it was very minimal, dark post punk and that all the 'arty' kids were into it. He said that REM would just sit and listen to the album all day long, especially Stipe. I listened to some samples, it's interesting, it sounds a little like very early Cure or Joy Division.
