On Neptune, the pressure in the atmosphere and on the surface of the planet are so high that the carbon is formed into diamonds, which are swept into the air and rain back down. Diamond hailstorms are actually quite common there...the image they used in Discover magazine was "diamonds raining through honey," because the atmosphere is so thick and gooey.
I find this really fascinating, both the idea of a planet where it rains diamonds and the idea of introducing yourself by telling the second most interesting thing you know. Do you make it the second so that you can prove later on that you know something even more interesting? I don't even know what the second most interesting thing i know is. I'll have to think about that. I must say though, the image of diamonds falling through Honey is a little bit disturbing.
