That's as maybe, but Peel doesn't actually pick the chart himself - it's voted for (by postcard and, this year, through the BBC web-site) by his adoring band of listeners. Occasionally, in fits of seasonal pique most becoming to a chap of his advanced maturity, he axes the chart altogether and there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the brethren.
