Hullo, Well, once again I am tempted enough by the topic du jour to add my pound note's worth. I read that post by Mr Ewing (what an apt controversy-causing name. I haven't seen such a backlash since Bawbee's reincarnation in the shower, when the nation tutted and sighed and tore up their TV licenses in disgust) and at first I was rather annoyed, and then rather amused. The point is, of course that this person is guilty of exactly what he is accusing the 'indie kids' of being...stuck in the past. Long gone are the days when we used to mope around in our rooms, listening to The Smiths and writing frightening verse. It's not all bedsitland and gladioli now, you know. The music press has remained guilty of this for as long as I have been reading their drivel. Nothing has changed; they use the same tired old language, the same old scapegoats and target the same old groups. Most of those of us who were around when it was gritty stuff are now in decent jobs and drinking vodka on a school night. We can see through it...it's nothing new. I'm sure that as soon as these journos get home, they snaffle their old 'Queen is Dead' 33 and a third out of the cardboard box, crack open a Pot Noodle and spend the rest of the evening crying into their tatty jumpers that have never been washed 'cos Andrew Eldritch once blew his nose on it.
