Are 'Godspeed You Black Emperor!' any good?
Dammit yes. Hard to describe really but here goes. Finding a frame of reference is the difficult bit. Anyway. Imagine Mogwai, sort of, except there's about 14 of them, and not just guitars, there's cellos and god knows what else. Scary men talking, train noises, it's pretty atmospheric really and then suddenly they ROCK AND IT ALL GOES POWERFUL dyamics and woosh. Soundscapes, possibly. Sandy said their performance at Bowlie was "like having sex with the planets". And he should know. You can't really sing along to it, and you shouldn't try either. Start with the album, the one called F#! or something, that's the best one, they've also got that mini album called Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada. But titles aren't important. The Longest Day. I haven't seen anything yet about anything happening, except Snow Patrol and some other people are playing a gig at the Maryhill Community Centre some time during the West End Fest. No mention of any Kelvingrove larks yet, though. There is a website: http://www.westendfest.demon.co.uk/ And it lists lots of other things which we could all be doing.
