" All the colours change You will see Autumn's almost here Regret will bring him back to me " That's what a pop group said in the 1990s. And look, they were right! Autumn *is* here! Specifically September, which means it's time to crack open 'isn't anything' again. I did, and it - is... everything. Isn't it? To mourn the beginning of autumn, I decided to look at what had been posted to sinister on this date in the past. 1st September 1997, and a fellow called (obviously a pseudonym) "Ara Hacopian" said:
B&S Studio Recording at West 54th
Could someone post the info on when/where this recording is? I think I'm on the guest list, but I have no idea where it is being recorded. thanks - Ara Hacopian
I don't know what that was all about. I hope he didn't mean 'Studio 54', or the bouncers wouldn't have let him in. And I hope he didn't mean 'on September 54th', for there is no such date. September 1st 1998, and some other charlatan said:
*---* HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINISTER BABIES *---*
A rather nice review in today's Select magazine, which thanks to the miracle of OCR I can reproduce for you below. There was also a chirpy little interview with Stevie, but I couldnt scan it cos it was in a funny colour. I haven't bothered to proof it because a) it's more fun that way and b) that's all I've been doing since 7am this bastard morning. Love Trousie xxxx
I wonder what those symbols at the top meant? But it's interesting to see that people were interested in this 'birthday' stuff in those days, too. It's typical of the boy, though, to have been using fancy words that no-one else could understand. No, not 'bastard': 'OCR'. By the way, it may just be a perceptual error, but there seem to have been an awful *lot* of mails to this list back then. Perhaps it was the 3rd LP that did it. Finally, on September 1st 1999, we find a character called 'Mark Casarotto' bleating, I mean, bleeping:
Pop news: I'm having a bit of a crisis of faith....pop faith. I've had enough, it's all rubbish. I want sounds to soothe my soul without resorting to tweeness or whining.
Cor. I wonder if he ever solved his crisis. Or if anyone tried to help him. Or if he is still alive. Perhaps the crisis finished him off. There is simply no way of knowing. To conclude: " September again You come so quick ", sang Deacon Blue's Ricky Ross in 1993, on a track called 'Bethlehem's Gate'. And on this, at least, he was right: for it did, didn't it? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
