Walls lined with signed, faded pictures of B-rate celebrities youve never heard of, and cheap milky tea. Yes Please.
And Bar Italia, which I love, even if the hip cats say its naff to hang around there since Pulp name-checked it. Its a good
screeching Quick sand at 2am to keep me awake. ah, what you need is "beg, scream & shout!-the big ol' box of '60s soul", one of the loveliest box sets i've ever seen. it's made like the old boxes with a plastic handle to carry your 45's around in, and the cd's sit in record shaped trays and look like the label in the middle (and then fitting inside cardboard sleeves with mockup artwork). it even has "the little ol' box of 60s soul" inside with trading cards for all the artists! and the music? well, you'll just have to give it a listen! today!! their glasses, shouting Sod the books, dance in the Aisles! Smoke in the place to take boys, unless youre particularly fond of your own reflection, as it is rather tempting to keep peeping at your hair on the mirror-lined walls. thanks for the recommendations, i shall use them whenever i get the chance to cross the pond again. (someday.....some way.....) given how restricted smoking has become in the US, it was hard to get over how many places one can light up...even right in the middle of euston station. (a giggly smiths dream come true...i was actually on a train heaving on to euston back from liverpool....though how many people in my life would appreciate that? 2?) that may sound silly, but it was really unusual for an american. i didn't even know bar italia was a real place, shows you what i know....then again, people are really surprised when i tell them normaltown and allen's are real places in athens and the b-52's didn't make them up. of course that's not nearly as cool :) i wish i'd had someone like you guiding me around a bit when, for instance, i was trying to pick one restaurant in chinatown. i hope no one thought i was trying to slag off london with my stories and be a smartass tourist, i really did love it there. and i got so much exercise and photo opportunities just wandering around and around for hours. (course, that's how you get mugged too, but..... :) ) this past saturday i was riding around with my sister and visiting young cousin from florida. i prepared a random B&S minidisc to A: preempt my sister's music and B: maybe have it rub off on them a bit. my sister will sort of tap her fingers to any beat but i don't think she was really listening, and since it was my weird music in her car, the volume was at a level that might prick up the ears of woodland creatures but probably couldn't be enjoyed by most humans. even i couldn't make out "chickfactor".
