P.S. Hypodermically speaking, if I shoot-up in Madchester
We'll have none of that nonsense down here Mr Watson. What d'you think Manchester is? Edinburgh? If you're intent on having a literally sinister time though, we can all chip in and buy you a gun. There hasn't been a shooting in Moss Side for ages.
Andrew Dean said this...
Jackie (a french bird) sang the original and it was the theme tune to a kid's tv program that used to air on saturday mornings here in england in the vein of 'flashing blade' or 'heidi' (ie a many-parted serial dubbed rather badly into english).
I thought she was a posh English bird that talked French sometimes. A bit like that Petula Clark. She even had hair a bit like Pet, except Jackie was ten times cooler.
and then he said this too...
it even made it into the charts in the year it was released (which was late 60s. my copy was taken from one of those tv theme tune lps which i bought solely for the white horses track after looking for it for years). the only other thing of note that she recorded was the theme tune to rupert the bear, later covered by lush, of course.
She does another great song called 'We're off and running' and she was responsible for the classic 'The town I live in' which is one of the highlights of British (erm, maybe European?) girl pop in the 60s. She may also be the Jackie in Jackie and the Raindrops who did some good singles in the 60s too. But I might just have made that bit up.
The only person I've ever met who didn't love 'White Horses' was Tag's estranged lodger Julian who just happens to be the DJ at Smile. If everyone meets up in Manchester we could all go along and ask him for it, repeatedly. He doesn't like that and goes purple and gets very angry. He may even beat someone up, which is a highly entertaining spectacle - apparently!
Well, think about it, Love...John
