yes by the title of my post it is obvious that at last my copy of sex clark five's 'crimson panzer' has arrived, sigh, so magnificent. how could something this marvelous have been born in alabama? am i wrong to think that skynryd is archetypal alabaman fare? are there any alabamans on the list?
And, of course, as the only Alabamian on Sinister, I have to set the record straight (once and for all?). Lynard Skynard is NOT from Alabama. The band is from Florida. Here are some bands who actually are from Alabama: 1) The Commodores (including Lionel Richie) 2) Remy Zero 3)Verbena 4)The Woggles 5)The QuadraJets 6) Man Or Astroman? 7)Pain! And not to mention that the famed Elephant 6 collective is mere miles away from the Alabama border. I'm know for a fact that some members of that scene are Alabamian too. When I was growing up, the scene was all about psychedelic garage and indie pop. I saw Tiger Trap play there when I was 17. I helped them carry their equipment in the house when they were playing tripping on acid. I saw Man or Astroman? so many times in high school and college. The most memorable was in a bowling alley between Opelika and Auburn. They could barely play at that point, but it was all in good fun. Let me just say that I know there are a lot of awful things about the South, but let me ALSO say that music isn't one of them. In fact, at the risk of sounding a little provincial, I think that most modern music wouldn't exist at all without southern influence. That being said. I don't live there anymore, because I couldn't take the constant societal pressure to lie and smile. But, you know, it's that same societal pressure that creates a breeding ground for creative and powerful art and music. Jason ThePicklePrince PS. Seeing Elf Power the other day made me realize what I did like about the Southern Indie Scene. No ineffectual sniveling and back-biting. Just good, open-minded folks. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
