Keith Watson 22/10/97:
On a different note: Having a B+S meeting on 1st Nov at the Egg in Edinburgh, at least, Pam from Washington is coming across, so if Nathan, John, Paul or indeed anyone else wants to come along, we'll meet up... In fact... I'll probably be spewing up... Well, it's only a quid 50 a pint! So it's not my fault.
Cheers, Keith.
MEETING REPORT: Well, the meet went ahead. Pam Berry and american friend (I forget his name) turned up. Unfortunately Keith Watson never turned up, which meant that anybody else who came along wouldn't have known who to meet!. I myself only know Keith and Dave Nicoll and wouldn't have recognised other listees. Only by chance I later discovered 2 people there for the meet who said it was all Keith's fault, they then chatted happily with Pam. I'm actually worried about Keith - he hasn't mailed for over a week and with not turning up to an event he organised I can only assume he's got a bad case of the flu. I hope that's the case and nothing worse has happened. Get well soon Keith. The Egg itself wasn't great (and I'm one of the DJs). I wouldn't go as far as saying it was a rotten(!) Egg, but it was definitely a bit off (sorry for puns). The 2nd DJs choice of tunes was, to put it mildly, 'uninspired'. I Managed to include 3 B&S songs throughout the evening - and 'Comin' Through' by The Pastels for Pam. Presented Pam with LLPJ poster and Egg mug (old promotional tool), which I think she appreciated. Discussed woeful state of UK radio (The US has commercial shows which play Soul all day) in relation to some uninspired soul track which was being played. I pointed out that even hearing Aretha Franklin or Otis Redding on radio up here in Edinburgh was rare. Also discussed B&S decision not to re-release Tigermilk and came to the decision that it's almost criminal. I think I talked too much :(. A disappointing night (for me!) was capped off by one of our regulars - a rabid B&S fan - drunkenly accosting Pam and friend with the offer of a party. Not a bad thing in itself, but given the state he was in, more like Rab C Nesbitt with expletives whilst strumming 'The State I am in'.(try to imagine it!). Pam wisely made excuses. So overall the '1st Informal B&S Meet-up' was a damp squib. Hope any future meet-ups work out better.
