As for a change in musical direction for Belle and Sebastian's new album, if you listen to _Dog on Wheels_, _Tigermilk_, and _IYFS_, the songs always sound like Stuart M's guitar with the added bits of the band. However from _LLPJ_ and _3.. 6.. 9.._ and the radio sessions of the new album tracks on, the songs sound as if the band has been writing these together, composing their "finely knit musical sculptures" or whatnot as a group. Seems to me that the new album should be nothing to be frightened of--if it does frighten you, leave the light on as you listen to it and hug your teddybear. :-) And, it does seem that "The Loneliness of the Middle-Distance Runner" is not on the new album. Will it be properly released as a b-side in the future? I read the short story by Alan Sillitoe called "The Loneliness of the Long- Distance Runner" a few weekends ago. It inspired me to start running again, even if it seems the only result is that I repeatedly have to hear a slight thud as my sneakers hit the asphalt and I lose my breath. Then I take a nap to compensate for all the expended energy. ;-) Living and loving Matthew ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
