hello, i'm new. well i was on the list a couple of years ago. but left. and now i'm back. but like anyone cares....! numerously... * methinks "judy is a dickslap" sounds less like stereolab and more like joe meek's tip-top-tastic "telstar", one of mrs t's favourite platters apparently. as well as cradle of filth. one of these by the way is a lie. the stereolab influence is probably thus by osmosis as it were. what the hell that means is anyone's guess... joe meek by the way should be investigated by one and all. "i hear a new world" is bluddy grate scary electronica and lived by aphex twin and stuff and belongs in your collection next to your raymond scott albums... * pink floyd - agree with everyone standing up for syd. syd was a genius, piper is mad genius stuff (go and check out robyn hitchcock and the soft boys to see where it could have all lead to) and the solo stuff - well...if you like your mad scary breakdown records like "pink moon" and "sister lovers" then do try "the madcap laughs" and "barrett" 'cos you can almost hear the man fracture on record. unbearably sad, but unbearably fascinating as well.... * trembling blue stars/fieldmice. never clocked on that "her handwriting" was a quote from the go-betweens at all. and then, tonight i was listening to chet baker and along came "you don't know what love is" and the line "lips that taste of tears". blimey charlie. mr wratten has a damn good record collection don't he folks? * "fold your hands.." this sounds tremendously twee. but it isn't. but my niece was a huge fan of the secret garden TV show from the seventies, and there is a line she took great pleasure in that went "fold your arms child you look like a wooden doll". which she would then repeat at ever more hyper volumes. what i thought of immediately. okay. i admit it. frances hodgson burnett rocks my world. i am a wet and weed. hello trees hello flowers. oh and i don;t think much of the album either sad to say. bit - well - weak. like the muted colour on the cover compared to the bold red of "sinister", the songs seem devoid of any oomph. some are nice, but tepid is the word springing to mind. and i really REALLY did want to love it... *left banke (and this is final for me - promise. first time and outstaying welcome already. must learn to be less verbose) - when i first heard "the model" my first thoughts were "by crikey this *is* 'i've got something on my mind' " - and what do i find? the lads and ladesses covered the bleeder....small world... anyway i shall be off now. crispy +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
