A faraway friend mentioned the other day that he believed Belle and Sebastian would be as big as the Cardigans soon enough.
I can't really see this happening. The Cardigans have a dancey aspect
makes them more accessible to a wider audience. I have heard from more
one person that B&S are "depressing," thus destroying any mass appeal
might have. I have even played them for a couple of people who I was certain would like them, and they just kind of shrugged. Even the friend who
---------- that than they likes
Simon and Garfunkel and does speed didn't like them.
What do you think? Are they movin' on up? And what kind of effect will their rather odd way of dealing with press affect it?

Hmmm...In a certain way, bands like The Cure and Smiths sugest melancholic, lonely landscapes. Of course, bands that have a dancey aspect get more attention, but when something like B&S reachs a certain level of success, its fans get even more passionate. I think that it can be a positive thing as opposed to bands like Cardigans or Spice Girls. I'd say that B&S will be big. I wouldn't go as far as saying the're the next big thing, but they'll certainly have their place in rock history, they may even be starting something other bandas will try to follow and the press will later call "a movement".
