Ooh, Chris_t's post has inspired me to write again. This is possibly a bad thing, and honey may come down on me hard (oh yes please :)), but hell, I'm not exactly inspired very often, as you may have guessed. Anyway, he called me an experienced lover. Sort of. Which is good enough for me. I've been having long conversations with my almost-a-doctor brother lately about booze, having now achieved the magic 25 when your body is supposed to go "right, that's it, I'm not going to look after you when you choose to fuck me up with booze 'n' drugs 'n' lassies 'n' late nights 'n' that loud music that you young'uns listen to these days". Obviously, then, it becomes vital to know how much drink I can justifiably put away with hastening red veiny bits appearing on my face and my nose turning into a Florida pink grapefruit. And (I am getting to the point, honest), he reckons it's best to drink as much as you like one night if you give yourself several days without alcohol to recover (or the Student Drinking Pattern as it's known, students being too poor to have a relaxing couple of pints as they have to save their beer money for getting shitfaced on Friday & Saturday nights. And no I'm not being patronising (much), that's what me and all my friends would do). It's all to do with enzymes getting saturated, apparently. Unfortunately, like most people de la deuxieme age, I prefer two or three glasses of wine (dry white, or perhaps a spritzer - so cosmopolitan! ~) most nights (the exception being sinister picnics, or club nights like Tigermilking 13/8/99, cheers), which it seems is more harmful as you don't give your liver time in between to de-saturate the enzymes. Or something. Which didn't answer Chris_t's question at all. I may be wrong, but isn't Melanie Chisholm of this parish actually Sporty Spice? Knocks Evan Dando into a cocked hat as far as Sinister celebs are concerned... Those bastards at V*rgin! Wonder what's in it for them? I was quite getting used to that chat room, too :) Still, it's just another reminder that this fantastic service which is so easy to take for granted can be removed from us with no warning at any time, so a massive massive thank you (again) to Honey for keeping things going and can I have a gold star for being a great big arselicker please? Big love, big cheese, big job, Markx

<super troupers> whilst the idea of the divine neil thundering his way through 'la pastie...' (surely a reference to middle class pies) is most appealing - i think that a b&s tribute album would be best put together by the fans, rather than pop-stars looking for a bit of indie-cred. the most amazing thing about bowlie is that so many people there were involved in music in some way - be they in bands, working with labels, writing fanzines or whatever. if b&s attract so many musically minded people - then surely it is they who should be called upon to put together a tribute. it's all very well talking about jarvis et al.. but their lives are so far away from those of b&s it's not even funny (to quote karn at bowlie, "yeah, like us and jarvis are really good friends")
that said, i'd pay handsomely to hear thom yorke sweeping his way through 'fox in the snow'

...but i dont thinnk thats particularly important
FIRSTLY........
On the everending topic of love, i have a few brief words to say! Love is amazing........basically I DONT want to understand it before i die
I was in love last year, with a girl at my school. She sat next to me in German and on my table in Graphics. I saw her a lot and whenever i did, i couldn't manage to say anything interesting to her. This was frustrating for me as she had absolutely no idea what was going on in my head. Because of my unfathomable lack of communcation (all or my conversations were about Soul and R+B which i quickly became an expert in) she would probably never have found out.
But as it was, i kinda slipped up when talking to a friend and the word of my love for her spreaded like a bush-fire (never seen one of those but it sounds pretty fast). It carried around school for about a week and nearly ended up in me hitting some fool (had i been a less fiery red-head).
Well, to cut a long story shorter, i found out that she didnt feel the same way - "She like you, chris, but not in that way" - i was informed. There-ended a close friendship that i thought mighta resulted in my first true love. Since then (about 18 months ago) i havent really had a real conversation with the poor girl and am gradually growing to forget about those days.
I dont know how this relates to the topic of a "perfect partner" but i do know that when i was in love, i thought about this girl at least EVERY HOUR!
Maybe you can judge YOUR love of someone by *how often you find yourself thinking about them*!
Just a thought
Im only young and this may be way off the mark and a load of pish to all you experienced lovers out there!(?)
SECONDLY.......
I just wanted to say that y'all should get ICQ (www.icq.com - probably). I was only allowed to start writing rubbish to y'all yesters and ive already added 3 new peeps to my address book. The feeling of (automatically) fitting in with something (rather, anything) is gr8! grrrrrr
THIRDLY......
Just wondering how much alcohol you peeps drunk when you were 17(?) I ask because i seem to be drinking far tooooooo much every night and it cant be doing me much good! For example, since starting this email, my bladder has caught up with me and ive been to the toilet twice! Sorry for having to tell you that!
FOURTHLY......
Y'know, there was an MP (Member of Parliament for those who arent in sweltering england (sweltering=bloody boiling btw)) who died a few years back!!!?!
The cause of death was "Auto-erotic_asphixiation" (sorry bout the spelling) which made me think! I found out the other day that this meant that he suffocated whiles wanking! The idea is that you have a plastic bag over your head whilst you perform the dirty deed and that a hormone is released, it apparently heightens the "pleasure".
Dont know why i just told y'all that but i thought you might like to learn something interesting today! Please forgive me(?)
Thats my lot for this hour!
MY NAME IS NOT GRAEME as this email might be trying to tell you

Hello. i've been sitting quietly in the corner with Ancient Genevieve and thinking pretty things too. one of the pretty things i've been thinking about is a nice little horror film made by belle&sebastian, as cleverly suggested by the young picnicgoer Mr Moore. not just Isobel mind you. with everyone in the band star in it.
Oh Oon...thats a wonderful idea! Well, David Moore...thats a wonderful idea rooted in your brain and sprung leafy branches from Oon`s brain. In fact...we will have to do many of them! A real, serious one, with creepy shadows that would be genuinely scary, and would be criticially acclamined, catapaulting Stuart Murdoch to horror film icon status! I have this one image...its a dark room...in an old church,an old, rotting church that has seen evil deeds committed, and suddenly..a swivel chair appears...and it,ermm swivels, and Stuart Murdoch is sitting there.Hands clasped.Sinister look upon face.Shadows upon face. Yes,yes...the scene where they are screaming at each other in Scottish accents..looming great big scottish castle in background...blood stained..ARE YOU FEELING IT? (new Belle and Sebastian single) We can also do a series of cheesy horror films.Isobel can star in it I suppose. She can be the bouncy breasted girl who sleeps around,so naturally, meets the evil demon right away.I could be the sweet babysitter who`s boyfriend, the star football captain (Stuart David--natch)know somethings wrong with the town but no-one will believe us.There will be many a scene where Stuart has to climb a ladder to get to my bedroom,to warn me
of the evil demon, naturally.Stuart Murdoch can be the boy who we all think is our friend, but turns out is a shape-shifter and is really the evil demon.Mick Cooke can be...um,a cameo butt shot or something,I don`t know,Don`t ask me..its not like I stay up at night planning these things or anything.
I really think that Fluffy Sarah should see the movie that she stars in! Her character is much better than Kate Winslets....the faces that Fluffy Sarah
makes around her movie-mother are priceless...the pouting lip,the loathing in the eyes, the furrowed brow!I love it.I`ve seen Rushmore as well, top totty indeed...and the soundtrack is very good too...sounds very 60`s ish.Whats the song that plays at the very beginning..when it shows all the clubs that Max belongs to?
I have a wealth of resources surrounding me now...and to be honest..with all these new channels,I`ve been watching tv.I can`t stop singing that `I`m a genie in a bottle baby` and the little genie dance that accompanies it.I feel dirty now..need to read a good,life-altering book.A few days ago,I took out `Like Water For Chocolate` by Laura Esquirel.Cover is appealing.Hope it is good.I need to read more...any one got any suggestion? Not in the mood for: Scary,or psychological thriller types. And not in the mood for any Milan Kundera.Oh..and not in the mood for any court-dramas.And not in the mood for Slyvia Plath either...any suggestions? (being honest here)
See you all in a while, love and kisses...Ancient-Genevieve-Wise-Woman-Of-The-Forest

i've missed you all, in my own voyeristic way. i've been watching you play and wanting to join in while i was away but couldn't write until i returned here. the first part of my message doesn't regard belle and sebastian, but *is* important. i can't recall having used sinister for my personal ends before, and won't in the future, i promise.
***enter soapbox*** Thus far, 8 sexual assaults have been reported that occured within the grounds of Woodstock '99. Included in these are two gang rapes occuring IN THE MOSH PIT with dozens of spectators doing nothing to stop them. Below is an article from Sonic.net that is pretty damn scary that goes into more detail about several of the cases. Because this was a huge festival with people from all over the country, it is probable that most of the offenders will never be held accountable. In protest of the blind eye turned by many police at the site and the lack of information of this aspect of the festival by the mainstream media, there will be a protest in front of the MTV studios at Broadway and 42nd Street tomorrow. The aim of the demonstration is to show that we do not condone MTV's support of a festival that was ill managed or their lack of coverage and interest in showing the brutality of men toward women at the three day long event. Hopefully, the shows viewers will take an interest in the demonstration and attempt to get more information for themselves about what happened at Woodstock '99. (Does anyone else think it's pretty horrible that a festival that began by promoting one's right to be free and sexual on their own terms turning into this? For the first time I'm actually ashamed of my generation. Bring on Jefferson Airplane!)
The show begins at 3pm and demonstraters are encouraged to come by at 2pm if possible. I (Megan) wrote this entire message, despite the abundant use of capital letters, a rarity from me, because this really upsets me. If anyone, male or female, will be in the NYC area, try to come, if only for a little while. Take a late lunch break or smoke break if you work in the area. If you don't live nearby but know someone who does, forward this message to them please. Or go to the Total Request Daily website at: http://www.mtv.com/mtv/tubescan/trl99_new/ and write your opinion in the comments section. What happened at Woodstock just wasn't right, in fact it's fucking scary.
from Todays news @ Sonic Net:
At least two women were raped in the mosh pit at Woodstock '99 last weekend, according to a volunteer who witnessed one assault and a rape counselor involved in assisting the victim in the other.
In each incident, which occurred on different nights of the three-day, 30th-anniversary Woodstock '99 festival, the woman was allegedly raped and assaulted by multiple men, as concert-goers around the crime cheered her assailants on.
Meanwhile, the internal-investigations office of the New York State Police in Albany announced Wednesday that the on-site trooper-supervisor was suspended without pay following accusations that several troopers in his area urged female Woodstock attendees to pose nude for photos with police, Jamie Mills, director of public information, said. The investigation is continuing.
"It looked like a clear gang-rape to me." =F2 David Schneider, mosh-pit witness
While New York State Police have been vague about reports of sexual-assault cases at Woodstock, officials finally confirmed Thursday (July 29) that they are investigating four alleged rapes said to have occurred during the outdoor concert held on the former Griffiss Air =46orce base in Rome, N.Y.
One of the alleged rapes being investigated was said to have occurred in the mosh pit during rap-rockers Limp Bizkit's performance Saturday, while the other three allegedly happened at the campground, according to Capt. John Wood of the state police in Oneida, N.Y.
Meanwhile, additional reports have surfaced through local rape-counseling centers and due to witnesses' coming forward.
David Schneider, a rehabilitation counselor who worked as a volunteer with the social-service program Family of Woodstock during the event, said he witnessed a gang rape in the mosh pit during a set by the hip-hop-influenced rock-act Korn on Friday night.
"At one point I saw this girl, a very petite girl, maybe 100 pounds, who was body-surfing above the crowd and either fell in or was pulled into a circle in the mosh pit," Schneider, 28, said Thursday. "These gentlemen, probably in the 25=E032 age range, looked as though they were holding her down. They were holding her arms; you could see she was struggling."
Schneider said he could not see everything that was happening through the dense crowd of nearly 200,000 and estimated he was about 15=E020 feet from where the alleged assault occurred.
"You try to judge by the crowd right around them, and no one really seemed to be too concerned about it," he said, explaining why he did not immediately report the incident. "I watched a little longer, and you clearly could see that one of the guys was pulling her pants down =F2 her top was left on. You could see he was violating her.
"Then it looked like he passed her off to his friend next to him," he continued. "It looked like a clear gang-rape to me, where he was just passing her on to at least one other person.
"At some point, it appeared she gave up struggling."
Estimating the assault lasted a few minutes, Schneider said concert-goers then came to her rescue and helped her to security. When security personnel lifted the woman over the barricade, Schneider saw that she was partially naked, which seemed to confirm to him that she had been raped.
Woodstock promoter Michael Lang was quoted in a number of reports saying he could not imagine how a rape could occur in a crowded mosh pit.
Schneider, who said he could offer police basic descriptions of two of the men, further explained that he didn't report what he saw at the time because he assumed that security was handling it, adding that there likely were hundreds of other witnesses. He said he also saw three or four other women being assaulted in the mosh pit.
Becky Fike, acting director of the crisis center at Family of Woodstock, said she had dealt with many Woodstock '99 sexual-assault cases but few victims wanted to file official reports. "It's the same reasons as in the society beyond Woodstock," she said, explaining why so few sex-crime cases are reported. "Peer pressure, family pressure, some of the women ... had been involved in drugs and alcohol."
On Thursday, Woodstock co-promoter John Scher ducked questions about whether he felt widespread nudity shown on the concert's video screens fostered an anything-goes atmosphere at the site.
"This was just an observation of what was going on," he said.
Late the following night or early Sunday morning, another rape allegedly occurred in the mosh pit, according to Utica, N.Y., YWCA Rape Crisis director Rosemary Vennero.
Vennero said a woman in her early 20s was raped and assaulted by "more than one" man. "She was in the crowd and she was assaulted," said Vennero, whose organization later counseled the victim. "People came to her rescue, and my understanding is that she was then body-surfed to security." The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
Vennero said her staff counseled a total of four rape and sexual-assault victims who were Woodstock concert-goers. The staff has fielded multiple other calls regarding sexual assault at Woodstock.
It could not be confirmed at press time whether the alleged mosh-pit rape being investigated by police is the same case that was described by Vennero.
A 24-year-old Pittsburgh woman told police she was raped Saturday night while crowd-surfing during a set by Limp Bizkit, Wood said. The woman told police she was pulled into the mosh pit, raped and assaulted, he added.
The three other assaults that allegedly occurred in the camping area involve a 32-year-old Ohio woman, who told police she was raped at the campground Saturday night, according to an Associated Press report. A 20-year-old New York woman also reportedly said she was assaulted that night, while another 20-year-old woman from Virginia told troopers two or three men raped her in the campgrounds Sunday afternoon.
In a posting on the official Woodstock website, a father said his daughter got separated from her three girlfriends early Monday morning and was pulled into a tent by a "a clean cut college looking guy with dirty blond hair" who raped her. An investigator said Wednesday that the description of the alleged crime did not sound similar to any of the reports New York State Police are investigating.
The father wrote that he was offering a $10,000 reward for help leading to the assailant's arrest and conviction and asked that anyone with information "do the right thing" and come forward.
Allegations of sex crimes have continued to surface since the three-day fest came to its fiery end Sunday night.
Some of the New York State Police's own troopers were even accused of misconduct, when a report surfaced in a Syracuse newspaper that alleged several troopers encouraged two women to strip and then posed for pictures with the naked women. The Syracuse Post-Standard quoted an officer as saying "Show us some [breasts]," and another saying "Show me some bottom," attributing the allegations to the two women who obliged their requests.
In all, eight troopers are alleged to have been involved in sexual misconduct at the show. Schneider said he believed a female trooper witnessed the apparent rape he saw during the Korn set. Police could not be reached for comment.
The three-day concert was telecast on pay-per-view via local cable networks. Investigators will review the footage to see whether any of the incidents may have been captured on tape, officials said.
While some artists, such as Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst, encouraged rowdy behavior during shows, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Offspring frontman Dexter Holland admonished male concert-goers for their inappropriate behavior toward women in the mosh pit.
=46lea (born Michael Balzary) even added to his onstage comments in a posting on the band's official website, "I just didn't like when guys would grab at the girls who had their tops off," the bassist wrote. "Guys think and look [and] fantasize about girl[s'] t-ts all day and finally the girl[s] are nice and free enough to let them flow and guys abuse the beauty of it all by groping without invitation. Some nerve."
Vennero said that in addition to the victims the YWCA dealt with, she continues to hear horror stories about sexual assaults at the festival.
"You hear people saying things like, 'When we went to sleep at night in the tent, I just heard people screaming, and they weren't screams of pleasure, they were screams of terror,' " she said. "I have to say I have to believe a lot of what I'm hearing."
A 23-year-old man who worked as a food vendor at the festival told Vennero that female workers always were accompanied by at least two men for protection, because concert-goers were trying to assault them while they were serving food. "This was happening right there," Vennero said. "They were serving you a hamburger and they were being grabbed at."
Vennero urged victims of sexual assault to reach out to their local rape-counseling centers, adding that only a small percentage of rapes are ever reported. ***off soapbox***

I, being the perv that I am, thought the pastie of the bourgeoisie was the pastie on the nipple that go-go dancers wear. I don't know, some kind of opiate of the masses that leads them to believe that they're not *really* topless or nude....'cause they're wearing pasties. So they feel like they have some class and dignity or something. I could be reading too far into this...
Christ, mate - not even the go-go dancers in Wigan wear pasties on their nipples. Meat pies, maybe, but I don't think any of them have sunk as low as pasties yet. Oh, the joy of words that mean different things at different sides of the pond. I suppose my pervious statement (and hence previous post on the subject) deserves some explanation. For those of you not used to going to the pie shop and ordering a pastie on a friday for lunch, a pastie (over here at least) is a sort-of pretender to the throne of the all-conquering meat pie. It's essentially a pastry wrapping around a filling of meat and potato or cheese and onion, and it comes in two main forms, "cornish" or "puff". A Cornish pastie has your average inch-and-a-half thick, solid as a rock pastry round it, and Puff Pasties have kind of more of a filoux (referred to as "puff") pastry.
There you go.
Any questions? No? Good........

Eh... You know, if a person isn't familiar with Dennis the Menace, then he/she is living in some sewer down below, not even knowing that the plague is over and Tyrannosaurus Rex is deader than dead. Everybody knows Dennis!! The guy's been pulling his pranks since the 60's (or is it 50's?), so I quess even the oldest, uncoolest person here has to know Dennis (not that such a person exists, of course, he said, with his "I'll- lick- your- ass-
with- my- other -rebublican -friends -and -hey- I'll -even -reduce -the - -taxes -so -you'll -never -be -out -of -money"- tone of voice).
And Starry Sarah said:
Heh. Thinking about it, I think one of the last films I watched was a Russ Meyer film. About bonking and stuff. Yeah..I got home not as drunk as I should've been, so I opened a bottle of red wine with a lot of difficulty, made some garlic bread and then was corrupted for flurpin' life.>
Every tuesday, from june and july, we had Russ Meyer films here on TV4. I just didn't get them. Sure, big boobs, they are always cool, and a bit violence is ok too, but... Not just my cup of tea. This sort of a friend of mine said he watched "Vixen" with his girlfriend and got aroused because of it. Then next week they watched "Beneath the valley of the ultravixens" but that didn't, for some reason, work for them anymore, so they watched hc-porn instead. How can anyone get aroused by watching Russ Myer films is a mystery to me.
And then Starry Sarah went on to say:
I was going to buy a Russ Meyer film soundtrack whilst I was in London Towne. But I didn't. I bought Os Mutantes instead and they're great.>
Yeah, the muzak on them was pretty cool.
And now, a question: Does anyone have any information about a band called Crash Vegas? I bought their album about 3 years ago for 5 marks (about a dollar, bargain!!!). It had a cover of Neil Youngs "Pocahontas" on it (which was quite horrible), and they said "Thank you" to Radiohead on their "thank you"-list. Quite beautiful, semiacoustic music with a female singer. Tried
to find out information about them in the internet, but only managed to find some grungy band from the beginning of the nineties.
And now, football and my favourite thing to do while watching english teams: How many dirty words can you count in one match from the players? You know, when they miss a sure chance to score? Nothing is sweeter than to watch their expression on their face and focusing on their lips that spit out that dirty word (which usually has something to do with sex).
Now I'm gone.

It must be two whole days since I last mentioned Tigermilking, Upstairs at the Garage, Friday 13th August (wear a B&S something for cheap(er) entrance). But I can again now, as we've (gasp) got a band! And, even better, they are the Sinister List's very own PICTUREBOX, and they sound fantastic. A combination of top pop live extravaganza and H!I!T!S! from Freedesign to Stereolab, Serge to Madonna, The Italian Job to The Acid House, Bomb the Bass to the Fieldmice, and huge great creamy helpings of Fashion Icon combo Belle and Sebastian, not to mention freebies galore, how can you say no...
Big kisses to each and every one of you, Mark xxx

I don't mail very often and after reading this it'll probably be quite obvious why as the B&S content is at best feeble.
I've been happily passing the time until lunch by arsing around with a few Web anagram generators, so far the main success has been annoying a workmate by renaming him "Immense Audio Lion". But when I tried B&S it came up with a few interesting results.
*BALLED INSANE BEAST* Could this be a Nostradamus styled prophecy foretelling a change of musical direction away from the tunes we all know and love to something more "aggressive" ?. Will Stuart and pals take to wearing leather and spandex and begin gyrating provocatively on stage ?.
Oh it's almost to horrible to contemplate. But I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I spotted further down the list....
*INTENSE BALLAD BASE* So it looks like we'll be OK after all.
Well that's it for now, time for me to go back to being a polite lurker.
Hugs,

Date: Fri, 6 Aug 1999 14:23:40 +0100 (BST) From: Honey <honey@majordomo.net> Subject: Sinister: IMPORTANT: all chat room users
Anyone who uses the #Sinister chat room (and there's a lot who do), read this. Anyone who doesn't, hit delete and move on to the next message which will be about (a) films, or (b) onanism.
Recent days have seen Virgin, our chat room server provider, changing the service beyond recognition, masking off users connection information so we can't see who's who, etc, and two days ago declaring that I as room owner sign up with them as an ISP, with a threat that the room would be removed within a week if I didn't. Having complied, they made a fundamental change yesterday without telling anyone, which we assume was yet another problem. But I'm staggered to tell you it's *intentional*: all rooms (that they define as not theirs) are permanently moderated, meaning an operator has to grant voices to every single person joining manually; no more "private" rooms (meaning anyone can see it and join) and various other changes such as no real operator abilities at all anymore, meaning we can't protect it at all. I've written the strongest possible message to them to reason this out, but as we have the channel as a privilege rather than a right, I don't think they care less: maybe they're trying to get rid of us anyway.
I'll keep you informed if the situation improves but for now, I suggest we all meet up on another server. For now, please go back to your "server" list in your IRC program (it's under File-Options-Connect in mIRC) and instead of joining chat.virgin.net, join any server listed as an "Underwear", sorry, "Undernet" server. "Random Undernet Server" is probably you're best bet: it doesn't matter where the server is located (US/EU etc). Then join the channel #Sinister in the usual way. For the interim if you're the first person creating the channel, you'll have operator privileges and should type /mode #sinister +pntl 500. If you don't know what this means don't worry - a regular will come along and fix it.
I'll make arrangements as quickly as possible, assuming a nil result with my diplomacy skills, to register a proper permanent channel with Undernet which should save our skins. For this I'll need 10 people seconding the formation of the room, so could a few chatroom *regulars* please mail me (proper ISP-based email address only are allowed, i.e. no hotmail, chickmail etc) and say they will be willing to support the application. Please only say you will if you can *quickly answer emails* in the next week - - I'll just pick ten of you, so if you volunteer and don't get a reply from me thanks anyhow.
If anyone is stuck with all this mail me.
Bit boring, this mail.
Honey xxx
