Fishyclap is my new favorite Belle and Sebastian album. I understand that its taking a while for it to sink in for most people, but I think about listening to it all day long. I'm driving my roomate crazy by putting it on repeat. Sinister and Tigermilk are getting old to listen to. They still sound great, but I've made them a redundancy by overexposure. I think all of the songs are solid. "Beyond the Sunrise" seems like a tribute to the Magnetic Fields. It is definitely floating on Gentle Waves, which is why I like it. Sarah takes the cake, though. Rolling Stones wrote that if Nick Drake were alive, and he had learned how to smirk, he would have loved the new B&S album. I think this is so true because Fishyclap sounds extraordinarily like Bryter Layter (having the same 70s blues/funky-jazz arrangements). I love what Tony Doogan has done with the studio sound. Is it him that I should appreciate or new styles of instruments? In any case, it sounds very clear. Can anybody tell me what different instruments each band member can play? I've seen Sarah play violin, recorder, sitar, and bass guitar, which are all very different. Is there a website that indicates who plays what instruments for different songs?
