Hey Sinister people, Just a brief note to leap to the defence of Electronic Renaissance. It gorgeous! The synthesizers sort of sound like... smiles breaking out all over the place. I love that. D'you know Synthstrument by Lou Barlow? It's that kind of sound. Lovely kodakcolor sunshine. Beyond the Sunrise really puzzles me though... it sounds like a jokey song that might be used to pad out a single, but.... well... it isn't is it? Fold your Hands... came out the day before my final exam. i knew that if I bought it then I'd never be able to listen to it, because it would always remind me of dread and abject fear. So I bought it on the Tuesday. B&S songs seem to almost exclusively remind me of happy days, I couldn't jeopardise that. I had this fantastic day about five years ago, in the winter time. I'd been going out with someone for a week or so, and we were coming home after a night out. We were both a little drunk, and we sort of sunk back into the seat of the taxi and watched the streetlights zip over us through the back windshield. It was snowing, and the snow sort of haloed the streetlights. And all I could hear was the grumbling of the engine. And all I could feel was this pulse hammering in my neck. And I don't know why, but every time I listen to Stars of Track and Field, I'm reminded of that. It happened way before I'd even heard of Belle and Sebastian, but it's really specific. It's kind of tied up with sooty sandstone and bridges and stuff like that. Now it's July, can I regale you with my favourite June story? When I was at the sports day a few weeks ago, there was an obstacle race for Primary 2 kids, where they had to run twenty yards with a bean bag between their legs, then go through a hula hoop, then scramble under this blanket, then run like billy-o for another twenty yards to finish. So the race starts, and all the usual suspects streak ahead, leaving this puffy little kid bringing up the rear, zigzagging all over the place. Everyone had finished by the time he'd got to the hula hoop, but he soldiered on, and disappeared under the blanket. For the next thirty seconds all you could see was this confused little bump going round in circles under ten square feet of fabric. He emerged eventually, looking dazed, carrying a clump of grass in one hand, and a shoe in the other. It was fantastic. Ah well, it's late and I need to hit the hay so i can be bright and attentive and... interested at the job centre tomorrow. But I hope everyone is dandy and fine. bodypopping, mouche +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
