Adrian Evans mentioned:
The other was a song which I can't remember the name of, but went..... "How can you tell me, you're lonely, and say to me that the sun don't hine. Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London, I'll show you something, that'll make you change your mind". Absolutely no ideas who wrote it.
This famed socio-political ballad was by the esteemed folkie and Childrens TV presenter Ralph Mactell. It was called simply "Streets Of London". I seem to remember ATV doing it in a boorish punk stylee. Nick Dastoor the other day mentioned the musical influence that some of his teachers had on him. My history teacher used to preface his lessons with selections from Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica". I think it was an attempt to frighten his pupils into paying attention. Cheers.
