Sinister. Which for January, could almost have been: 'Gayle E. Andersons Personal Blog'. He still worries about. A mutual friend told me. I'm not sure what to make of that. Two weekends ago said mutual friend and I went to Edinburgh. It was LATE. We went to a pub. With a group of people I had never met. Then we went to a club called 'The Citrus Club'. I had my picture taken by a random boy with a random boy. The didn't know each other and I didn't know them. The boy in the picture and I danced until 3am. His name was Mark and he was terrific good fun to dance with. He was only 21 though. He kissed me! Gasp! Young man! I kissed him back, of course. He did not get my number. Then the countdown started. And the weekend after that, I finished at work. It was. Strange. On Monday I flew to Ireland. The flight was booked on Thursday. To meet a an Irish Revolutionary Socialist Youth Worker that I'd never met before. The plan was this: arrive in Ireland Monday night, fly back home Thursday morning. Thursday morning came. So a flight home on Sunday was booked. He took me to the best coffee shop I have ever been to, it is also a very quaint flower shop with the Waterboys on the stereo. He took me to Connemara and bought me my first pint of Guiness in Ireland. He took me to Neactains where they have Staropramen on tap and belle and sebastian on the playlist. He took me to the Roisin Dubh where David Ford is playing in two weeks and at night you can dance and drink until late. I met mountaineers and descendants of Russians. I shall miss his company immensely, even if he did get me with a beermat. Thats the worst thing about meeting new friends. Missing them. I hope he visits soon and I can show some of the things I find beautiful and feel passionately about. Its good to share these things. The Socialist had to go to work, so I had alot of time to wander, read, drink coffee. My first day of wandering brought me to a coffee shop that is also a flower shop. It is delightful. The Waterboys played on the stereo. I read my book - The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. On Friday my wandering led me to a shop called "Bell, Book and Candle" where I bought a book called "The Portable Virgin" by an author from Dublin. It is a collection of short stories. With a sandwich, a bottle of Galway water and book in hand, I found a spot on the beach. Listening to the sea, reading The Portable Virgin. I sat and watched, the sea, the people, the stones. The sun started to set beside me. And I watched as people strode off into the sunset, and I captured them forever in jpeg format. After a time a Lad came along. With a dog. He would throw a rock a few feet into the water, the dog would intently roll the rock to shallower water then put his whole head under to retrieve it. One time, his whole body except his tail went under. I continued to read, and get colder, and watch the people, and I even took some pictures, of the boy and the dog when I could see he wouldn't notice. It got colder, much colder. But watching them, the dog and the boy, I found myself quite unwilling to move. A time later, two girls walked past and asked him 'who's dog is that?' to which he replied a slow deep American voice 'I have no idea!' and then he asked if it was mine. The dog tried to steal my water bottle, and The American laughed. The girls told him they'd got his drink, and they'd see him later. I stood up, I was so cold, I told him I had to move! He asked if I was going anywhere. I said no. The Socialist was working til 9pm, it was not even yet 5pm. We looked over and the sun was almost gone. No less than absolutely breathtaking. The American agreed. I said I should eat, he asked if I wanted to get some food. I said ok. And we walked. And laughed. And ate. And drank. I saw him again the next night. My final day. He is coming to Glasgow the weekend after this one, and I can't wait. Its time to go back to college now. xxx The American, before we met. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-5/1183408/TheAmerican.jpg The view http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-5/1183408/GoingHome.jpg +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
