It's true, as of yesterday I am an award winning artist, having scooped first prize in the art competition at 2000 Troubled Teenagers, for my orange plasticine sculpture entitled 'Fox with a Sombrero to Wear in the Snow'. If I'm really honest it was no surprise - my artistic career has been heading this way all along. At the age of four I came third in a competition organised by Birmingham City Council, when I won a book called 'How Animals Live' for my collage of a tree made from screwed-up balls of green tissue paper. Six months later I won second prize in the Co-op's colouring competition. This was a little disappointing, as it meant I went home with a box of paints and not the shiny bicycle I was really after. But last night's achievement finally made the 22 intervening years of artistic struggles and starving in garrets all worth while. And they were darn fine prizes too, so all in all a splendid ending to a fantastic day. My first London picnic was a truly wonderful experience, and I want to thank everybody who was so lovely and friendly towards me (everyone I spoke to basically). I'm not mentioning it to alienate / piss off the majority of you who weren't there, but because I think it's proof for anyone who needs it that people on this list *aren't* 'cliquey', and don't consider themselves some kind of 'cool set' - I went along yesterday with a couple of friends, and we were pretty nervous because we didn't know anyone, but once we got chatting to people we were fine. Nobody I spoke to was at all unapproachable or unfriendly. So my point is that anyone, anywhere, in my position (I've been lurking on this list for over a year now) should take the plunge, go along to these events, and speak to some of the people there - you won't regret it. Oh yep, and I've also heard the new album and I think it's grate and they don't sound like they've sold out at all and I cried at the Chalet Lines, even though I might have already told you all that.
I heard it properly all the way through for the first time today, and I agree 100% with Jen. It's completely fab, and I reckon most of the rest of you will (or already do) think so too.
