sigh so i am back from nyc, and have been wandering about aimlessly, nibbling on russian tea cakes and humming dirty dream no 2... i did dream about the band all night. particularly something about sarah and me making a book(?) supper club nyc gigs: both were virtually flawless, though each had its own flavour. nov 1 seemed more intimate and otherworldly to me; am i delusional, or could really one feel the love and support in the club?! the audience was so polite and some of us forgot how to dance (beyond the "head nod") because we were completely enraptured! nov 2, on the other hand, had a different energy--people yelling between songs and such, though the band seemed in excellent spirits, smiley, especially isobel. hopefully they weren't just glad the tour is over. and perhaps the audience was restless from the excruciating guv'ner set?! (goon --hope you don't mind my quoting you-- had it right when he said something to the effect of, "i'm willing to indulge in a nostalgic moment, but this is too much!") anyway, if it's even possible, this opening fiasco made b+s seem all the more heavenly. i think it's kind of endearing when the band disappears to a corner of the stage, leaving perhaps just stevie visible up front (doing _his_ head nod)... but some of the best moments were when one could see all of them up there playing together; i wanted to give them a big hug. after the shuffling around between songs, everything just pulls together beautifully... later i was suddenly too shy to speak to stuart m (and stood by as garth did), though we did say goodbye as stuart and his snazzy pants went back upstairs. wee chris and i did speak again :) although i'm so glad they didn't repeat the nov 1 setlist on nov 2 as stuart m had humorously suggested they would, the first night's was my favorite. and one had to love the byrds cover, with wee chris joining stuart m to sing (and ducking back when it was over)... it was one of the most wonderful, endearing things i've ever heard/seen. actually, now that i think about it, nov 2 was pretty amazing-- "i know where the summer goes" being a highlight... but i'll spare you my deliberations. after weeks of travelling to and from, and dreaming about, new cities and new shows, it's time to get back to schoolwork. helloes to kat (many thanks) and kristen (lovely to see you and meet hans)! btw, was it a listee who gave isobel a monkey ("hamish") in chicago? --emily scratch my name on your arm with a fountain pen (this means you really love me) ... rusholme ruffians +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
