hello there, it's two a.m. here and i'm exhausted. but i couldn't sleep until i had posted. right now i'm listening to nina simone, but that's not what this is about... last year. christmas eve. florence gives me an american pressing of "the boy with the arab strap," on vinyl. it was during a break from the consumer frenzy at the bookstore where i work and we exchanged presents on the sidewalk. i was enamored of the album cover, it seemed to express everything that i was feeling at the moment, that i held it close and counted the seconds before getting home to play it. then i played it and i fell in love...with B&S. oh that sound... those notes, bum ones and all... that vibe... those harmonies... those songs, especially the songs... they were the strongest i had heard in ages. the next day, i bought the c.d. so that i could play it at work. tonight, after work, florence came by and sitting down across the street from where we were last year, we shoved this year's gifts into each other's hands.. she handed me three packages... 1. a salako single. (this led me to quip, "another jeepster christmas..." which in turn led her to smile.) 2. a blue belle and sebastian t-shirt. (one size too small for me, imported all the way from london. now, i'm amazed). 3. a small, clear plastic box containing three B&S pins. (for my guitar strap, back pack, anything that can be pinned). at the record shop earlier today i bought my girlfriend, laura, a copy of "TBWTAS" and "Tigermilk." (they didn't have "IYFS" in stock). another jeepster christmas. it makes it all worth while. j.c. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
