Sinister: you'll read it in a book tonight...
hi :) i have the next week off from school and i want to go down to the library to get some new books to read.. i was wondering if you sinisters have any good recommendations for me.. im in the mood for a book with a belle and sebastian type story - about love and obsessions and average events that are not-so-average when looked at closely.. something similar to the beautiful, beautiful "belle lettres" from the tangents ezine... or just send me any sort of book list! thanks for the help.. teri ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Carson McCullers, 'The heart is a lonely hunter' It's been mentioned on the list before, and that's why I read it - may I take the opportunity of thanking whoever it was that mentioned it, as it is the best thing I have read for such a long time. It is very belle and sebastian, really sensitive and touching... Is her other stuff as good? Other books I'd recommend: Dostoevsky - Netochka Nesvanova Hermann Hesse - Gertrude that's all for now rob xx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . one of the best books i have read recently has been "coin locker babies" by ryu murakami ... it is written very ridiculously, and includes such wonderful things as weird sea diseases that youngsters plan to take over the world with and imaginary ghost towns full of wolves that one of the boys adopts.. fuckin beautiful. :) boy sets fire vlass@interlog.com wrote:

I also highly recommend HARUKI Murakami's work...very tripped-out detective novels with metaphysical and romantic bents to them... A great starter is "Dance Dance Dance" or "A Wild Sheep Chase", but I've heard that "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" is also pretty fabulous... My other fave authors to offer up are: Jonathan Carroll -- "Sleeping in Flame", "Outside the Dog Museum", "After Silence" Richard Bach -- ANYTHING Tom Robbins -- "Jitterbug Perfume", "Still Life with Woodpecker" Nicholson Baker -- "Vox", "The Fermata" (not exactly romantic, but hey, not everything in life is...) Enjoy! --Steven *************************************************************************** Steven Goldman * * Box 22688 * Fun-lover, pop freak, sometimes * Emory University * DJ, and aspiring actor/writer/director * Atlanta, GA 30322 * * (404) 251-8310 * "Faith manages." * sgold06@emory.edu * --Delenn, "Babylon 5" * WWW: http://tswww.cc.emory.edu/~sgold06 * *************************************************************************** On Fri, 13 Mar 1998, boy sets fire wrote:
