Sinister: NEW YORK PICNIC REPORT
Here's how the New York picnic went! We arrived at the Central Park Carousel at 1pm. The sun was shining and the weather was sweet. There were 47 of us. After bribing the carousel worker into cranking up the dial, we each got on one of the olde-tyme wooden horses, and the thing started spinning. Sweet Dina, unfortunately, was not on a horse, but rather, on one of those little runty unicorns. She wanted to impress us New Yorkers (she'd walked from Washington just for this event), so she grabbed onto the unicorn horn, and using the torque provided by the spinning carousel, hung from it, her body flapping outward like so many wind- whipped flags. It was then that disaster occured. Her sweaty palms slipped from the unicorn's horns and she flew outward, upward, like so many rocket ships to the moon. She landed in a tree, where Cindy, Phkintz, mlk206, and twelve of the other picnic gatherers ran to find her. Unfortunately there was not much left of her head. (On the bright side, we'd forgotten to pack lunch--and we're not vegetarians!). We New Yorkers are a surly bunch, so we started, as they say, "chowing down." Mm, those Washington DC people sure do taste funny! Unfortunately one of New York's finest witnessed our little picnic. Apparently cannibals need a permit to gather in Central Park. Cindy tried to sweet-talk him, to no avail. He was about to write us a ticket, and he was on the verge of handcuffing Phkintzshch, but then he heard the sweet strains of "Fox in the Snow" emanating from Megan's ghetto-blaster, like so many sweet strains of "Fox in the Snow" emanating from Megan's ghetto-blaster. His heart, well, it just melted. Soon he was like that proverbial "fox in the snow", dancing around naked, his pink fleshy body jiggling in the spring breeze. It was quite beautiful, although we're all sorry about Dina. Next time, we'll pack a lunch! with love, Ari ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Hi there, I'll be doing an internship in Manhattan this summer (Granary Books). Though I have spent a lot of time in the museums and galleries and going to shows (and am looking forward to exploring) I'm hoping you can recommend good places to buy music, to hang, to eat, things to see, etc... sort of a "sinisterine's guide to nyc"! (plus: any chance of summer picnics?) please reply to me privately: eyh96@hampshire.edu thanks, emily ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
