Sinister: Stuart on Radio 2
Hi Sinisters, This just appeared on the B&S News page: "Stuart Murdoch will be selecting the "Tracks of My Years" on BBC Radio 2 every morning for the week Aug 2nd - 6th. The feature is part of the Ken Bruce show, although as Ken is on holiday, the show is being presented by Stuart Maconie. Guests on "Tracks of My Years" select two songs a day, songs which were either inspirational or which symbolise a special period in their life, then they have a wee chat explaining why they chose them. The Ken Bruce is on between 9.30am and twelve noon. The "Tracks of My Years" feature is "usually" on at around 10.30am I believe." Tailormade for The Pinefox, especially following the revelation that our Struan is also a big Lloyd Cole fan. What's the betting on Felt, Chicago & Andrew Gold making an appearance amongst the artists chosen? Sadly I shall be on my annual hols next week, so would anyone like to record these spots for me, please? It is striking what Mr Moore said. I am, struck. The Ken Bruce thing is just a ken too far. It's near. It's close. It's a close thing. It's a close shave. It's what I listen to when I'm shaving, sometimes. I am excited about the Ken Chus, I mean, the Ken news, and I hope that Auntie Clubnight, I mean, Sister Disco, is, too. It is disappointing that it is not Ken himself who will present the programme, and say something like, "Lovely lad he is, too... from my part of the world, no less... stop sniggering at the back, Bowles". But I feel that Murdoch is on the show partly because Ken B likes B&S so much, now, though I am not sure that Ken B has heard the older songs, I mean, record albums. Really, what exciting news, in a way. And Maconie, not Allinson! It is a shame that N. (D) is not reading this anymore, or he could tell us things about those, DJs. I think that the Lloyd fandom has been known a wee while. In one anecdote, it was Alistower 1996 who discovered it, in a wardrobe. Perhaps he would like to reply, and tell me off, about how I have got it wrong. I am awaiting a post from The Vicar, which will redress the balance, about the DJs, the Brunetties, et al - we like the Kontroversy - and also tell about the medieval walls and things that we explored, recently. That was exciting. The Vicar also has something to say about Rats. I think that Peter J Miller's recent posts have been very well turned. Whether I would have admitted as much in 1998, must remain uninvestigated. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security. This has just been on. It was v. good. I thought they had forgotten it because it didn't come on until ten minutes beofre the end, or thereabouts. Stuart chose 'A New England' by Kirsty MacColl and 'Let The Sunshine In' by Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger and Whatever They Were Called. If you live in the colonies, or are at work, or can't listen for some other reason, or even if you're the kind of person who just likes to spoil things for him or herself, here is a list of Stuart's choices: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/bruce/tracks/index.shtml?thisweek I'm particularly looking forward to Friday. It reminds me of the golden age of Alton Towers, when the most exciting thing was the boating lake. I am taping this for Mooro, but if anyone else wants to tape it, good idea. I might miss it one day and then Mooro will strafe me with his Me 109. Maconie also played Lloyd Cole and the Commotions' classic follow-up single, 'Lost Weekend'. This came at a time when Lloyd said he wanted to be both a singles and an albums band, like The Beatles. Girls! Here is a picture with Ken Chu enjoying a massive pint in the background: http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/pumpkin/2004_07_01_pumpkinpublog_archive.html #109109502153374505 Incidentally, my mother says two pints is a quart.
