We don't want public idols to copy and read about in "Hello" magazine, we want fucking music to listen to. And anyway, aren't their lyrics anything but detached and distant ? (Hefner, of course, are the kings of lyricy...is that a word ?) Contrast, say, with emotionally-empty, formulaic, limp, impersonal, wishy-washy wanky Travis/Embrace/Oasis etc lyrics. I SAYS: Erm, we don't want people to tell us what to think (we think for ourselves thankyou), we want fucking music to listen to. Okay, so music CAN be politicised, but it doesn't HAVE to be, and there are plenty of other ways to make political points.
