Sinister: Another Sunny Day
Does everyone know that this is available - am I always the last to know..? http://www.donewaiting.com/archives/2005/11/new_belle_and_s_1.php I heard the Funny Frog toon on Mark Radcliffe...is it just me or does Stuart now always sound like he is singing in the room next door from everyone else? Such a wee wee voice. It reminds me of the Black Sabbath stories of the album recordings after Ozzy and Bill Ward left, when Ronnie Dio and Vinny Appice were turning down the guitars, and Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi were turning down the drums and vocals and the sound engineer turned ot the bottle, and that is a good story.. It looks like Another Sunny Day is also available on Matador's website (not to mention most, if not all of the album being leaked on the internet): http://www.matadorrecords.com/belle_and_sebastian/ I'm not sure if this was done as a response to the leak or not, but with a growing number of records being leaked on the 'net, weeks or months before their release date, I'm wondering if groups/labels are going to wisen up and out-leak the leakers: immediately release the record as soon as it's been finished, since the way things are done now will never prevent albums from getting out well in advance of their actual release date. Artists: make the album available for download on iTunes, etc. when you finish it! Get it off to the presses ASAP, and in the stores shortly thereafter. PR interviews, gigs, and tours are great, but I fear everyone's hard work is being undercut by these kinds of actions. I'd hate to see a hard working band such as B&S lose any sales due to these sorts of things. Sigh. --Ben On Dec 1, 2005, at 4:47 AM, Linda Kerr wrote:

I'd guess that Stuart's voice sounds so distant because this isn't the final mix of the record. I missed Funny Little Frog, how does it sound? Thanks Mandy Linda Kerr wrote:

Mandy Ah - I didn't realise it wasn't the final mix - maybe that is why it sounded a bit uneven. Funny Little Frog was ok - you can hear it on Mark Radcliffe's show http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio2_aod.shtml?radio2/r2_radcliffe_tue until Tuesday night, I expect (on Listen Again). It was quirky, the lyrics sounded interesting, but I wasn't grabbed by it. Someone texted the show to say that it sounded like some other, bit obscure, track, which is getting to be a trend. Not necessarily a bad thing, but.. I haven't relistened to the show again (it 90mins), and the track is in the first half hour, I think). Linda On Fri, 2 Dec 2005, Mandy Waite wrote:

I think there always has been a "policy of politeness" on sinister in not being too blatant about having pre-release copies or downloads. I hadn't realised that Another Sunny Day wasn't official. Commenting on radio programme plays - that's cricket, ain't it? Although, as I found out, the world is blurring at the edges, with all this new-fangled technology. A download chart? iPod mini-metros? I remember when the only kicks we got was the static off the inside sleeve of a new Tops of the Pops LP.. Yours in anticipation..
